Your sweetest liar

A lot of threads are about absolute truths... parsing the nature of "neutral" and the dogmatic pursuit of life without tone controls.

I wanted to ask my fellow A'goners a very different question.  I wanted to ask about things that don't sound natural, that aren't accurate, but you love love love the sound of.

For me these would be Conrad Johnson Premiere 12 amps and early PV series preamps. Juicy, lush, so far from reality sometimes it is hard to imagine, and yet, I absolutely adore the sound of them. 

What are your seductive liars?  What totally wrong but totally right audio gear have you had an affair with?

many, many years ago I had a love affair with a Supex 900 moving coil cartridge. It was kinda like a poor man’s koetsu black - projected everything bigger bolder than life with a solid boogeeyin’ bottom end that loved bass guitar, and a really propulsive delivery to music that was totally addictive. BUT hardly the last word in top end, finesse, detail retrieval, imaging and the finer points of music delivery

made me smile though..

have had these for 25 years, won't sell em, even though i still cannot find the right speaker i can use them with ... 😪
