Zombies, Friday in Merriville, IN. They played familiar hits with the "touring band" including Rod Argent, Colin Blunstone, Jim Rodford (former Kinks and Argent), Tom Toomey and Steve Rodford. For the second half of the show, the original band, including Chris White (Argent) and Hugh Grundy (Drums), plus the touring members and a couple of others, played their Rolling Stones all-time top 100 album, 'Odessey and Oracle' in its entirety closing out with Time of the Season and a second, really great rendition of She's Not There. Argent was outstanding, both as a showman and on the keyboards, Rodford can still rock it, and Blunstone's voice has held up pretty good. Very enjoyable show. |
Just finished 17 days on a bicycle with the last week being an organized ride with concerts every night. I intended to see 5 of them but long days and heat reduced that to 3, and one of those was cancelled. Spin Doctors sounded ok and it was fun to hear their hits. Lynyrd Skynyrd put on a great show with singing mostly by Johnny Van Zant, three guitars (including Rick Medlocke of Blackfoot, Mark "Sparky" Matejka, and Damon Johnson of Thin Lizzy and Alice Cooper), Pete Keys on keyboards and drumming by Michael Cartellone (Damn Yankees). The back up singing by Carol Chase and Stacy Michelle was also solid. They played all the favorites and included heartfelt tributes to USA, our military, police, first responders, and all the former band members including recently passed Gary Rossington. The encore of course was Free Bird. Unfortunately, the Bush concert was cancelled at the last minute due to a storm with high winds.

Tedeschi Trucks Band, August 10, 2024, Wings Stadium, Kalamazoo Margo Price opened. This is definitely one I would not miss. The 11-person band was excellent and it was fun to see Tyler Greenwell and JJ Johnson on two drum kits - Allman Brothers style. Susan was awesome both singing and playing her guitar, and Derek Trucks is one of the best guitar players in the world right now, IMO. Midnight in Harlem was a highlight of the night for me. Will definitely remember this as one of my favorite concerts ever! My only sort-of disappointment was the poor’ish acoustics of the stadium. There are two excellent (although smaller) music venues in Kalamazoo and Buddy Guy happened to be at one of them on the same night. |
@tkrtrb125 - Have you seen Tedeschi Trucks Band before? Was it a good show? @boxer12 - Darn, I missed Phish in GR. Billy Strings too. |
