Xangsane Cryo OCC vs Sterling Silver XLRs

@stillbuyingtoys I've been doing the DIY cable thing for years.   The options from Xangsane have peaked my interest.   I recently ordered their XLR OCC variant (Xangsane XS-5500 frozen 6N hifi OCC).  Looking at the bulk silver 1105 (stranded) and 9003 (solid).

I have always preferred solid OCC conductors and my go to cables have been Helix designs (aka WillieWonka).  I remember listening to Neotech years ago and thought they were the really good (could never afford them and ended up buying the cheaper stuff from the likes of VenHaus and Partsconnexion).   Using Viborg and AECO connectors.

With that said, I have deviated from my DIY lane and have the Veritas Argentum X currently installed between DAC and amp.   They are local to me and figured,  would give them a try.  Probably build an Xangsane/Viborg combo to see if compares to the Veritas.

@stillbuyingtoys I have not received the 5500. Can’t expect the next day shipments like Amazon...

I looked at the pricing again and it has doubled what it was back in Jan (maybe they play the discount game as does Amazon). I figured if I liked the cable out of the box, I would re-terminate with some potentially betters connectors. These will be a good comparison to my DIY Helix OCC builds.

Need to figure out which silver version (1105/9003) to try.   Probably end up getting both, never can have too many XLRs....

@stillbuyingtoys Just received the 5500s. Pretty impressive build quality and very nice packaging (similar to Viborg). Out of box sound is good. I’m not a burn in guy and would be happy adding these to my XLR stable.  Added a couple pics to my system folder.

@stillbuyingtoys Good to hear.   I'm still on the fence on which cable to try next?   Xang 9005 or the solid core Audiocrast IC102.  I did pick up the Viborg silver XLRs.  I've been partial to solid core designs based on all my success with DIY Helix's.

I'd be willing to bet that this is the same cable as my Veritas Argentum.   

I'm also going to re-terminate my Xang 5500s with the base Viborg copper/rhodium plugs.  Don't think it will make much of a difference, but why not...

@stillbuyingtoys Good point.   I bought a 1.5M 5500 with plans to cut and make two shorter cable pairs.   I want one pair for connecting my swarm sub amp (about 20") that will use the Xang stock XLRs.  Was going to re-terminate the remaining to test against my other OCCs and the Veritas.  You now have me re-thinking the new XLRs.  Agree that I probably won't hear a discernible difference no matter what I put on them.  Actually may try some copper/silver AECOs.

@t_ramey I have the Argentum hooked back up.  Just seem more articulate vs the 5500.  I think the DIY comparison to the Argentum will be the Audiocrast IC102.
