I used 2" thick soft maple, some of its tiger, built mine in the fashion of a Timber nation rack. Just yesterday I brought 5 red oak logs (3 of them 32" diameter)to a Sawyer. I'm having it quarter sawn 2" thick and will have a new rack in a year or so, can't wait for this to happen.
