Why not use mains as centers

Is there a reason I should'nt use two good bookshelfs or smaller towers for my center if I have two center outputs and available amp channel?

rmichael21 OP Details Discussions Posts This discussion Message User 4 posts 11-12-2008 at 02:28pm Copy Comment URL Report Comment Edit Delete alright,I am new to trying to be an audiophile.I cant afford high end equipment but I am concerned with getting the best possible sound reproduction.I am using rotel amps and processor and I switch two two channel for music.I kind of understand what some of you have said about frequency cancellation with two drivers emitting the same signal,but not fully.So,for home theater I sould try to find the best matched center as opposed to using two speakers emitting the same signal on the sides of the screen?I know I can be slow on the uptake,I just want the best sound I can get with whats available to me
