Thank you all for your input. I have the opportunity of buying both a Classe 15 and a Classe CA 200. Apparently, they are both in mint condition and are selling for $1100 and $1200, in Canadian dollars, respectively. Which one would be best matched to my system and eclectic taste in music, keeping in mind that I have a tube preamp and a tube CD player. I have also been told that it is very difficult to repair a Classe CA 200, while repairing a Classe 15 is fairly straight forward and relatively easy to do. All comments and feedback is very much appreciated.
Which amp is better for my system
I am looking to replace my Threshold Stasis 2 amplifier, which blew a channel for the 2nd time in 3 years, with a Classe Audio 15 (1994 model) or a Classe Audio CA200 (1998 model). My system consists of the following components:
- speakers: Monitor Audio silver RX8 - preamp: Electron Images DMP-1 (dual mono, 2 chassis, tube preamp) - CD player: Audio Research reference CD8 (tube)
The difference in power (WPC) between the 2 Classe Audio amps is not important, as both have ample power to drive my speakers. Any comments and recommendations regarding these 2 amps or any other similar quality amps are greatly appreciated.
p.s. I listen to all kinds of music, including classical, jazz, blues, soft rock, folk and opera.
