whatsbestforum - what's going on

I thought I could reduce my presence here and participate elsewhere so I registered on this site called whatsbestforum. First it looked harmless. I did not read the about section.

I made one comment, a speaker recommendation - did not name or mention anyone - just posted a link to a speaker site and I was immediately banned. The site went into an endless loop, with the you are banned message. I can't log off or view anything, the only way I can view it is if I start another private browser. On top of that, a few hours later, the message changed to "Your IP address has been banned."  Like I am some kind of criminal to be kept away with a restraining order and pepper spray.

I wonder if it's an exclusive site or a cult, and if anyone from here is a successful member over there. The about us section is truly disturbing. I am not taking it personally, but it does bother me of course.

Of all the decent sized audiophile forums WBF is well moderated and has done the best job of keeping out the sour trolls and ASR mental cases.

Only problem I have is its a playground for the well to do, where everyone thinks nothing of dropping 50k on a component. So I personally do not get much out of it. But at least they have a place to go and freely discuss such ultra high end gear without being attacked and belittled.

And yes the WBF owners engage in forum conversation, but I have never seen them ban someone over something petty or go on power trips. I did see a long term member leave in a huff and puff over the most mildest, milk toast, conversational disagreement.

The way some have acted on this thread show they are the 'difficult' ones we forum mods know only too well. They not only bring these forums down, but to a tee act like this in all their daily online interactions.

@agisthos  you don’t find banning someone for the use of VPN petty? There is not much left behind after the knowledgeable ex-members departed. The knowledge base is very thin there. Perhaps I expect too much from those into audio to understand frequency, amplitude, and phase. Asking about sound wave propagation and polar response and you will get the “we only care how it sounds” CAN response, where some members looking for “closed microphone” and “multi-track” studio produced recordings to sound like “live un-amplified acoustic instruments” from the audio perspective.  The attitude there clearly misses the point that you can’t buy knowledge no matter how much you spend on the equipment and having an understanding of how sound and electronics work is much more valuable than connecting expensive components together in a pretty “acoustically  engineered” room. I previously gave the example of the guy that shows up to track day thinking that he is going to get the best track course time simply because he showed up in a Ferrari. Great sound reproduction requires knowledge more than anything else and most on WBF seem to miss that point, as they think that they can  simply spend their way to good results, which is a major fallacy.

@unclewilbur you are so kind!

@theophile I am trying to stoop to your level, but it's too dark down there, I am lost.

@carlsbad2  "they choose who they let in". No, they choose who they want to favor based on whom will be paying their forum monetary 'contributions'! They ( the owners) also have an agenda, one that you had better comply with...otherwise you will be banned.

@agisthos  They have banned numerous folk over something 'petty'. Look at all of the folks they have banned, for no other reason than one of the owners had a dislike of that person. They even banned Ted Denney recently, because he fell afoul of one of the owners, who didn't like his way of posting! Pathetic.

@daveyf seeing how the moderation is here, I may just prefer WBF. I can't stand lies and creating alternative facts and making up rules on the fly. I could go on and on about the moderation but no one forces us to be here.
