Uberw. - Do you know Joan Osborne? Check out her album "Relish" if you’ve not heard it. Could be another female singer for your list. Writing and production help from one or more of The Hooters, as I recall.
Whats playing on your system today?
Today I decided to listen to two of my favorite rock guitar heros and one great vocalist. Guitarist' Robin Trower, Ronnie Montrose and vocalist Davey Pattison.
I listened to Trower songs:
Bridge of sighs, Stitch in time, The fool and me, my personal favorite- Too rolling stoned and others.....
Then I pulled out "Gamma".
I listened to: Razor King, Wish I was and Skin and bone and others.....
Davey Pattison hooked has also up with Michael Shenker also. I really enjoyed my day so far. Anybody else heard anything good?

Thanks for the recommendation, @arcam88. I'm probably repeating myself. Only heard their hits. Never owned any of the LPs. Will do some more listening at the least. Tidal doesn't have too much of their earlier discography (which is definitely what interests me). Spotify has quite a bit although the SQ is not as good as Tidal. Guess I'll have to suffer with that ;-) |
Steve Smith & Vital Information - Come On In Cat Walk, Track 4... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CCyXOw8Ybw&frags=pl%2Cwn |
Crowded House - Woodface Weather With You (track 5) here... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ymg6t12Eqw |
Apologies to Gustav and Leonard... Make way for some fairly recent (2017) Robin Trower, "Time and Emotion" Track 7, You’re The One.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMwy27oaCmE |
Pinback - Blue Screen Life (Thanks to Pokey77 for turning me on to these guys a few years back) Prog here (track 8) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3QUuAWqEWo |
The Bad Plus - These Are the Vistas Track 3, Smells Like Teen Spirit There are covers and then there are COVERS. Plus the sonics on this whole recording are pretty good. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ6Xo1mYSJg&frags=pl%2Cwn |
Genesis - A Trick of the Tail Last track - Los Endos (!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EWa_yV1JDE Have listened to this across decades now. It never ceases to amaze me. A masterpiece in my O-pinion...from cover art, to song writing to musicianship and production. Just superb. |
Steve Winwood - About Time Track 5 "Domingo Morning" Remastered version here from a Winwood collection https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqDj88ECUME |
Buick 6 - Plays Well With Others (Lucinda William's Band's "solo" release) My 2 Sense (track 3) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwaFJCc_SAk&frags=pl%2Cwn |
Big Head Todd - Stratagem Really enjoying track 3, Wearing Only Flowers... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=755YngDklMU "...Wearing Only Flowers came in 27 to 1...." Good song on another uneven album from BHT&TM. |
CAB (Dennis Chambers, Tony MacAlpine, & Bunny Brunel) - their first. Track 5, One for Stern: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMnOB5vLUTw Noteworthy "guest musician" - Brian Auger. |
The Nines - self-titled Heard it courtesy of Spotify. VERY difficult to find a copy for purchase, but finally did (CD Baby? Digital download but only MP3 if I recall). Track 1 is "Sun Don’t Shine". Accept no substitutes. This is a Steve Eggers album. Wish the drummer were a little more on top of the beat (or even a little ahead) and sound quality ain’t exactly odd-ee-o-file BUT great garage rock...good vocals, strong songs, great guitar riffs and excellent screaming. It’s been that kind of a month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU-PxCIucrA&frags=pl%2Cwn |
Loved the groove on Space Junk. It also reminded me of something... Strange Groove from World Party's (Karl Wallinger's) Egyptology. "Just a piece of rock in heaven Moving 'round the sky To a strange groove...." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkS0Ha4MVE8&frags=pl%2Cwn I'm thinking Karl was channeling a little Wang Chung for this track. |
Hey, boxer - Blame Uberwaltz for reminding about Porcupine Tree & Steve Wilson today ;-) Doesn't seem to get mentioned as much as they/he deserve. Just finished Luminol as suggested by Nutty over on the Minority Report. It's on Steve Wilson's solo LP, The Raven That Refused to Sing. Another worthwhile listen. |
Arbouretum - Coming Out of the Fog The Long Night - "But in the midnight, The sun is a dim memory...." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0txWwo3aVSg (don't give up on it without hearing the guitar solo starting at 2:15) |
Good to see Ambrosia get some love. N turned me onto Screamin' Cheetah Wheelies earlier. THANKS. Remembered the band name, though I thought they were from way before the '90s. But heck that is almost 30 years ago now. Anyway, saved them to favorites on Tidal. Got the s/t debut playing. The lead singers got some pipes! Thinking the drummer's pretty good too. He ain't behind the beat, not even a little bit. |
Steve Miller...from Your Saving Grace to (now) Number 5 Midnight Tango https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDS3LAjYj80 |
Hey U. - I only just found/tried Redemption on Tidal. Liking it. w/r to Frampton, do you know his studio album that came out before Comes Alive? Link here to it on Amazon. Excellent, excellent. Solid songwriting throughout. Worth a listen if you don’t (unlikely as that might be). Worth many listens, actually. CD's okay but if you can find a nice clean original release in vinyl, sonics are quite good (and I’m mostly digital these days). https://www.amazon.com/Frampton-Peter/dp/B00004VW2M |
Massive Attack - Protection Track 5, Spying Glass... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTOUellI94g You live in the city You stay by yourself You avoid all wickedness Still some people they brand you yeah Just because you are rasta You move to the country You live in the hills You avoid all company When you check them in the new spying glass They want to know all your business You live in the city You mind your own business What you see you don't see But some people they always see They never mind their own business You move to the country You live in the hills You think you're far from the wicked When you check it in your spying glass They want to know rasta business |
CAB - Live On Sunset Bunny Brunel, Tony MacAlpine, Virgil Donati, Dennis Hamm Considering how crappy some studio recordings can sound, I’m always impressed when a live recording sounds this good. Live On Sunset not unique in that regard...just another great example of what modern recording can accomplish in the hands of talented people who care about sound! |
Virgil Donati - In This Life. This might be one of those that takes some patience and repeated listening before it hooks you. It is certainly "interesting" ;-) N - I have found that Red Dragon Cartel on Tidal but only see their album, Patina right now. Will save to favorites and give a listen later. Doh! - I see Havana is track 2 on Patina. Got it now.... |
Rory Gallagher. Right now, Tattoo.... Track 4, They Don't Make Them Like You.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycyh6ZdJkZg |
Joe Bonamassa - Sloe Gin Track 6, Another Kind of Love.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YlFQPZcrVQ |
CAB2 - Chambers, MacAlpine, Brunel w/guest Brian Auger Track 5, South Side, is blowing my mind. There is a ferocious 8 second guitar run at 3:16. Just amazing. (Don't know why Tony MacAlpine doesn't get more raves). As a bonus, Brian Auger delivers excellent Hammond work throughout the album. The man can fly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH8wbkTZfx0 |
Yesterday - Gillian Welch: Boots No.1: The Official Revival Bootleg @mental - Is she 'for real'? Born in NYC; studied at Berklee College of Music. Give a listen if you ain't yet...sounds real to me. Check out her and Dave Rawlings (The Dave Rawlings Machine): Nashville Obsolete and A Friend of a Friend. You might already be well acquainted. |
Chris Stamey - Euphoria Hard not to get in a good mood listening to this one. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYL498f3nNF6Fxi6ryo_uJLjQb-XTV_hC |
n80 - "The bottom line is that I have to preview a lot of music before I find something I want to buy and own." FWIW, I'm in the same situation. The ratio of albums screened to "must-buy-keepers" is large and getting larger; 25:1? 50:1?? more than that??? A SWAG with emphasis on guess. Some of it is a function of getting older and, with enough mileage on the odometer now, finding many "new" things sound derivative and better done way earlier by someone else. The browse/discover function of Spotify and the Similar Albums listings on the All Music Guide do help make the prospecting more productive. |
Sorry to step on your post, @ozzy . Didn't notice the time you had added it. I'll take it back... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Fx3-69Udfk |
Steve Stevens - Memory Crash Hearing a bit of Meddle-era Pink Floyd in this one... Track 9, Prime Mover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsjwpAPyyEs |
Anders & Jens Johansson w/Allan Holdsworth - Heavy Machinery Track 5, Good Morning Mr. Coffee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRDjmygpd44&frags=pl%2Cwn |
Crowded House - Temple of Low Men Track 6, Never Be The Same https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZQIzLBtHQw&frags=pl%2Cwn |
boxer12 - I noticed your posting last evening of The Standard’s Albatross. I don’t see them mentioned very often. I have enjoyed their music myself...a great band but, unfortunately, no longer active. On the off chance you’ve not listened yet, check out their Wire Post to Wire and The Swimmer recordings. Equally as good as Albatross, I think. Best regards. |
The Grays - Ro Sham Bo Track 10 here, Not Long For This World.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmrJXRR4C8M&list=OLAK5uy_k-P1W8Zsffh15guZvBho445bbLrynvHP0 |
n80 - Right under the OP's initial "statement", under the page count blocks and to the right of the response count, there its a "sort" option which will provide the control you want. Arrow 'up' should let you see the newest responses on the first page. Arrow 'down' will put the newest responses at the very end (i.e., last page). Hope that helps. |
n80 - You are very welcome. BTW - I definitely appreciate when people take the time to comment about their listening selections; e.g., your "editorializing" about Gary Clark's B&B. I've spent some time listening to him...appreciate him as a musician, like some of his songs a lot, but not consistently enough to "buy". Might be worth a re-visit. I need to check out HD Tracks and see if I can find a good version of Jason Faulkner's - Presents Author Unknown. I bought two copies of that CD and both have bad glitches that are only evident on ripping to hard drive (which usually gives me the best sound quality). Not due to scratches! Anyway, maybe HD tracks will have a good sounding, clean running version. |
