Sorry for your loss tomic. I lost my father a couple years ago to cancer as well. Tough time for sure & I wish you nothing but the best during it.
Bonnie Prince Billy / Wolf of the cosmos
I don't always like his style, but I'm digging it tonight!
slaw, what is your take on  Jim James "Eternally Even"? I was a bit disappointed in the sound quality. Is "Uniform Clarity" recorded better?
Cool slaw, It is a great Radiohead album.

Funny Uber, I was doing the same thing over here last night. Took out the Clearaudio Concept MC & replaced it with a Karat 23, then a Grado signature XTZ. The signature absolutely sings with the ViRa tonearm.

Slaw,
This one was put on a new arm so I never noticed that. Weird that they would do that though. Really can't think of a good reason for them to deviate from the standard.

Steve,

From a music standpoint they are very similar with the main difference being that he allowed the songs in "Lubbock" to jam a little more (some longer songs / less polished for sure) than on "Moby Dick". From a SQ standpoint, Moby Dick is as close to a 10 as almost any in my collection, where Lubbock is a solid 7. The one I like best is the one I'm playing at the time 🤙.

Hey slaw,
The main positives of the ViRa tonearm when compared to the Polestar (a high end Jelco) are a larger sound stage (both deep & wide) & improved clarity. The funny thing about the clarity is I never realized what I was missing until the new arm was properly set up. It is absolutely smooth, detailed, & dynamic. Like nothing I've ever heard before.

Negatives:
Setting this arm up is a b*tch, & it will unmercifully show every flaw (in spades) until everything is "perfect". Because it's a radiant tangent design, you cannot use the "normal" tools for set up. Why it didn't come with a template is beyond me.

Conclusion:
That stated, it is probably not an arm I'd recommend unless one has a lot of patience & experience in setting them up. Once set up properly though it has remained absolutely consistent and a beautiful performer

Gravenhurst / Flashlight season
Slaw, not yet... I have a benz on it currently. Been thinking of putting one of my clearaudio's on it, but am really happy with the benz right now.

bdp24,
My "Old & in the way" is actually on "Sugar Hill" records. The sound quality is excellent nonetheless, as is most everything on Sugar Hill. That record has been with me for 25+ years & I love it. There is some magic to it that unfortunately wasn't recreated with the JGB. Thanks for the information on Chris Hillman, Herb Pedersen, & John Jorgenson.
