Stephen Stills / Manassas - Down The Road. Atlantic 1973

@bdp24

Ha! It was used, and actually got some of the higher ratings vs other releases on Discogs (including MOV), so took a chance. The pressing is fine, and pretty darn quiet. SQ-wise, it sounds fine, but to be honest, it has been years since I heard the original pressing, so it is very hard to compare.

This is outstanding.

@bslon

Hi Brian, do you have others from Merge Records? I got one recently, the surface noise is atrocious. I’m wondering about the quality. Hopefully mine’s an anomaly.

Hey Bill, that one is pretty quiet, but I have another that is a bit noisy. So, perhaps ‘hit and miss’ for them.

@slaw

And the LPs are even better Steve, as you know. This is ‘hitting the spot’ this Sunday afternoon. I do believe, one of Tom’s best.

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour. Capitol reissue/remaster 2012, originally 1967

what a shame he is gone….

An understatement of high magnitude Jim. I know everything is ‘meant to be’, but can only imagine the additional amazing work he would have graced us with. Odd, I was a ‘late comer’ to Tom. I watched him opened for the Grateful Dead at the Akron Rubber Bowl in the early/mid-80’s, and I gotta say, he grabbed my attention. I kept my eye on him, and no doubt he only got better and better….

@spiritofradio

Beautiful.   Looks like a very nice set.  What do you think about the SQ?

It's actually pretty good James. Lively. Actually only my second listen, and got side tracked with my AC condenser acting up, so was trouble shooting that last night. 😡

@bkeske That Mendelssohn one of my favorites.  I have 2 or 3 different versions including the film score from the Woody Allen movie (which is excellent).  Do you have a favorite version?

That is probably my favorite….that I have…James. It is also the most complete. Other versions I have are condensed snipits, including Szell/Cleveland.

@sbank

Szell conducts Sibelius - Symphony No. 2. Concertgebouw

That’s like your personal musical version of Charlie’s Angels!

😁 That, IMO, is the best recorded and performed Sibelius No. 2 Spencer. Also a great LP to check out the new PC’s. A great recording for 1965, but not ‘perfect’, (like, let’s say, compared to Ray Brown’s Soular Energy), so any differences could be exposed. And it did just that. Immediately sounded more detailed and refined vs the slight veiled presentation with my old PC’s. Well, I guess it’s not quite as veiled as I thought actually. Fun with cables.

Looking forward to more improvements while burning in.

Just arrived today, took me by a bit of a surprise, as it was sold as the stereo version, but instead the mono version, but it is very clean, and will keep it. Sounds very nice, and gives me a reason to put on my Ortofon mono cartridge and spin some of my mono collection….which I have been meaning to do.
