It’s what I remember. I actually have spun it within the last year of so. It’s one of those albums that has a handful of good songs, and many that don’t do much for  me, (the SQ varies some too). It might have something to do with her voice on a couple tracks. I picked that up years ago bin diving at my fav used record store. If there was an unknown band, and they were from the San Francisco area at the time, I would most always pick it up to check out.

And yea, thanks re: the monos. More fun after a loss. There is always another corner….

@j_husker

Thanks! Looking forward to them, that is for sure. At least I now have a back-up amp should another failure happen (knock on wood).

Man, I’m psyched. This LP was recently released on vinyl as a 4 LP set. I have it on cassette and CD, and so looking forward to this on vinyl. IMO, this may be the best Jerry recording ever. Found it on Discogs for a very good price new and sealed.

The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo. Columbia reissue 1972, originally 1968

Brian, I have to ask due to inate curiosity. You've a bunch of album pics there with a lot of ring wear on the covers. Look like a Good/Good+. What's up with that?

🙂 All my originals, most from over 40 years ago. Used in racks when I didn’t even think of using exterior sleeve protection. I have them all in sleeves now though, regardless. That isn’t always reflective of the vinyl grade though.

bkeske (Brian),

Is the JGB album well recorded? I have that on CD & like it, but it doesn't sound the best.

I hope so. I have it on cassette and it sounds pretty darn good. Bought the CD in case my cassette went berserk, and don’t enjoy it as much, so hoping they did a good job on the vinyl. The seller says it sounds great (he has a personal copy).

This is also the same performance that I linked that YouTube video a while back.

Fingers crossed, as it isn’t cheap.

Just arrived today…

@boxer12

Thanks Tim, enjoying them so far. Good to have the old Belles sound signature back in the rig.

BTW, you should consider that JGB box set. Very nice, well packaged. As it turns out, it’s 4 1/2 LP with a blank side. Sounds great to me, albeit there are a couple songs I don’t get the mixing, putting Jerry center or even a bit left center, yet his guitar on the right/right center. Odd, as I know how these guys set themselves on stage.

But, all in all, a very nice box.

@noromance

Reagarding SQ….well, what I consider a ‘Belles’ sound. Very similar to my old 400A, but better at almost everything. The overall sound is what I would call ‘liquid’, and not a hint of anything being etched, grainy, hard, or cold. The gentleman I purchased them from has had almost all David’s Power Module amps, and as opposed to the 150A, 350A, etc. he feels the MB200’s are more tube-like. The others he knew were solid state. I can only take his word for that, but the ‘liquidity’ of the overall presentation is noticeable the first time I heard them. That said, it isn’t ‘mushy’ at all, but rather very refined, somewhat airy but full at the same time, reproduces a very nice big stage, good imaging, detail, much faster than the old 400A, etc. And with 64 amps of peak current they have a lot of grunt, power, and control.

When I had the B&K 3030 in, I had to reduce the loading on my Hagerman to 470 ohms, as it bothered me at 1,000 being too etched on the highs, where I had it with the 400. Well, one of the first things I did was set loading back to 1,000 with the MB’s, and all is good again, nice clean smooth crisp highs again (the Soundsmith MIMC likes 800-1,000 IMO).

Anyway, initial thoughts.

@j_husker

😁 Thanks man. I’m telling ya, the Shostakovich LP I’m playing right now is just killer with the new amps. My god the SQ is incredible. One thing is for sure, the better the LP SQ really makes these babies shine bright.

RE: Deutsche Grammophon - One word, inconsistent. Most/many can be very good, some, not so much. Doesn’t mean they are not all ‘good’, they are, but some are stellar, and some not so much.

In contrast, in relation to another larger EU label, Philips, as example, in the classical recording realm, IMO is constantly very good to excellent. Same with DECCA/London.

@spiritofradio  This is a much better recording:

Chausson
Trio Pour Piano, Violon Et Violoncelle, Op. & Pièce Pour Violoncelle Et Piano, Op. 39
Jean-Claude Pennetier, piano
Régis Pasquier, violin
Roland Pidoux, cello
Harmonia Mundi 1984, French release

@spiritofradio

I’m interested in that Muir String Quartet Chausson.  What do you think?

It’s nice to have in the collection, but, for a DMM pressing, it’s not really very impressive SQ-wise. It’s good, but not great. The performance is better than the recording, I’ll say that.

Well, it’s tax day. Spent all day on mine. Thus a nice chunk of change lightened my wallet. And to make things worse, I realized I hadn’t made a payment in January, as I usually do….not sure how that happened. Oh well….so….this only made sense as my first selection today.

The Beatles - Revolver. Apple reissue 1975, originally 1966

Well, so much for the tax doldrums. Just posted today on US Audio Mart that got my immediate attention, an Sbooster linear power supply that will work with my Hagerman Trumpet. Looks to be in almost new condition for $250 shipped. A great deal. So, bought it. Have been looking at these new at Upscale for some time now, this is over $150 less than new. Couldn’t let that slip through my hands.

Todd Rundgren - Something / Anything ? Rhino/Bearsville reissue 1987 2LP set, originally 1972

@noromance

As am I Brian. It turns out the seller used it with a Hagerman Trumpet, and said the increase in SQ was very apparent and made it ‘reference quality’ (his words). A great deal for that amount. Have been eyeing them on Upscale for quite a while.

@bkeske looking forward to hear how your forthcoming LPS sounds
