Paul Kletzki conducts Mahler No. 1. Wiener Philharmoniker. Angel reissue late 70’s, originally 1962
Playing a little hooky.
When I bought my Treo’s, literally thrown into the deal were a set of AudioQuest Comet bi-wire cables. Quite the deal as they went for 3-4K new. But, they had BFA banana connects on the amp side, which my old Belles binding posts will not accept. So, just arrived today were some AQ 300 spades to replace/install on them. Been running my 1950’s NOS Western Electric cables I had made for me. I’m going to keep these in for a while, but man, they sound very nice. There is some silver in the design, so they add a bit of sparkle and midrange clarity. To be decided whether they stay or not, but right now I’m pretty impressed, and makes the Treo deal all that much better. So, to check them out….

Cowboy Junkies - The Caution Horses. RCA 1990
Szell conducts Sibelius - Symphony No. 2. Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. Phillips 1965
@noromance

As good as they promise, tinned copper can't allow all the info through compared to OCC/OFC/silver etc.

The NOS WE are pretty good. All subjective I guess, but regardless, pretty impressed with the AQ Comets thus far. The DBS pack technology is interesting as well.

Reiner conducts Rimsky-Korsakov - Scheherazade. Chicago Symphony Orchestra. RCA Victor Red Seal 1960
@noromance

@bkeske BTW, congrats on the Comets.

Thanks man, to be perfectly honest my intent was to probably sell them, as they are worth about 40% what I paid for the Treo’s. But….after listening to them, I don’t think I can sell them. They are pretty damn good.

 Wow man, that takes me back. I had a couple of their 45’s. They used to record at the same studio as Pere Ubu outside Cleveland in Painsville.

Brian, I highly recommend that you send the new AQ speaker cables to Audioquest for terminations. They have the proper spade connector for Vanderstein speakers. And for those cables you really should get the 1000 series spades. Also, the method for termination is far beyond a solder joint. They do a process that "co-mingles" the metals of the speaker wire and the termination. Bill Low, owner of Audioquest, told me about this many years ago. You can contact them to inquire on the cost and any other questions about the terminations. Again, highly recommended. Your new speakers deserve it.

Good points all Joel. The Comets were already terminated for the Vandersteen Treo’s, so no problem there at the speaker side, as they were owned by the previous Treo owner. I was going to buy the 1000’s, but really didn’t want to spend that much if I was going to turn and sell them. I just really wanted to listen to them first, so for $50+/- got the 300’s to check them out. Gotta tell you though, taking off the stock BFA banana’s (which was very easy), there were very similar to the 300 in terms of the cold weld set screws size and setup. The new 500 and 1000’s seem updated and different than the originals I removed, and have much smaller screws as I understand. As I say, my originals look like the new 1000 series from the outside ‘body’ except function more similar to the 300 in the screw connection. I contacted AQ, and they wanted about $250 to terminate them. With a 1000 series cold weld connection? I can do that myself, it’s very easy. Seriously, I didn’t really pay anything for the Comets given what I paid for the Treo’s. So to me, they were essentially free.

So yea, unexpectedly, now that I’ve heard them, (which was my goal out of pure curiosity), I will probably keep them. They are really that good. Honestly, I’m quite surprised. I can always get a set of 500 or 1000 spades, but to be honest, I’m not sure it’s necessary right now.

@puffball08

Oh man, that sucks. At least you figured it out quickly, and the tubes are OK.

Have a back-up? I've always thought I should have kept my B&K amp as a back-up instead of selling it after buying the Belles. Now I routinely look at the same/similar amps in the US Audio Mart listings just for that purpose.

I've got an r1100s, and a Guzzi sport 1100i.  My other "2 channel" obsessions.

Very nice, both. My last bike was a 1970 75/5. Loved that bike. Stripped to the basics, and fun to scrape the heads once in a while

Trying to figure out this image option. Will try again later

@tomic601

Brian the image option is dark ages imo. First you must put image at webhosted site like imgur or flickr, then pray it need not be resized, then use image url....

ugh...

Yea, I'm no dummy when it comes to this, but as I do not have imgur or flickr, or similar, figured I could use them as links from DropBox. But not sure that will work. Unfortunately.

Brian...sorry, i am the technology village idiot....

Ha Jim, we know that isn't true

@noromance

I like the now functional user @lookup but not a fan of the non-mobile responsive view at all. There's no text wrapping so the page view width is all over the place.

I'm finding the same no text wrapping issue in iOS as well. Drives me crazy. A few reloads, or close and reopen solves it.....sometimes.
