@noromance

here’s a thing. I have some of those Windham Hill records and this week I even had one out. Mark Isham had Lyle Mays help him with the soundtrack to Mrs. Soffel. One side of his “Film Music” WH release comprises 1901: Theme from Mrs. Soffel and it’s so very Lyle. Played this a couple of times this week along with many other Lyle solo and with Metheny records.
If anybody wants or needs to have a moment in memory of Lyle Mays I recommend the last cut on “Travels”; live “San Lorenzo” with an extended and really dynamic piano solo that not for the first time had me in tears.
@noromance

should I be surprised at you spinning 16 Horsepower?  Maybe not, maybe soon you’ll be playing Tallest Man on Earth.
@uber,

no mystery is no like Romantic Warrior.  It has been one of the great examples of a group gone wrong.

@slaw

thanks man.  Got my order in.  Been so enjoying Aoife’s performances on Live from here.
Also, you know the sweet Nightingale that is Kate Rusby right.  Aoife and Chris Thile and Noam and some other luminaries like that play on Kate’s album “20”.  So sweet.
@slaw

hey bro.  How’z Gil treatin you?   Saw he’s got a new record out but haven’t heard it yet.
you probably know the Lone Bellow.  If not though I think you might like it.  Not sure about the SQ.  It’s got that sound like it’s been produced for earbuds, like the National maybe.  But music is very cool.
Brings to mind my long held and discussed views about Memphis being a better place (than Nashville) entirely. An arbitrary argument. I suppose in some ways Knoxville or even Jackson has it over both. But anyway... may have to reassess. My wife has business there every year. Maybe I’ll go with her this year and check it out again. Has been awhile.
The Lone Bellow
Half Moon Light

Seems like a lot of the musicians I like have lately moved from various parts to Nashville.   And these folks are not country.   Maybe something to this.
Discussion on here about Phil Collins brings back memories of the proceedings connected to my divorce.  We fought bitterly over who would get his albums but I won - she had to keep them.

Wow.  I’ve never heard SQ like this.
Might turn me into some kind of audiophile record buyer person...
Trio Palabras

Cuban women of a certain age

audiophile attention to the recording

@tomic601 thanks bro!  Been traveling.  Nice to be back to my stereo.
Saw Caroline Spence this week.  Strong voice and such a natural and good person honestly giving of herself in the performance.  What a great woman.  She played a few favorites.  You going to be able to catch her on this tour?
@uber,  yes Focus is great.  I love the dynamics and contrasts on that record.  Such great musicianship.

that distinctive smell still coming from the record pocket of the thick printed inside sleeve of the 1977 Columbia issue, you know....   records: tactile: and sometimes they even smell good.  Take that Spotify....!
On a bleak afternoon into evening in Portland:
CSN(Y):

So Far P/P
Deja Vu P/P
Looking Forward (digital...)

The latter a pretty good record.  Anybody ever buy the expensive euro issue vinyl?   Is it just cut from a cd?  Either way it’s probably not that good of a record....

This is pretty much a country record but she’s got quite a nice voice.

If you’re only into classical music and you don’t get most contemporary music try this and you might be encouraged.

If you don’t get most classical music try this and it may open a new door.

@richmon yeah I checked and (so far) all I see are shows East of the Mississippi.  So cool.  Looks like the original lighting tech, that they made an official member of the band back in the day, is with them.
waters,

dude, where you been.  we have seriously missed you.  been wanting to ask if you’ve heard this band of kids, Glitter Wizard, that play like the graduated from high school in 1967 not 2017.....

I like their album Hunter Gatherer

please check em out By maybe starting with the cuts “blood of the serpent” and “space” and let us know if they get a most coveted 730waters certificate of hard rock excellence.  Seriously.
Very cool about Nektar.  I didn’t know they were still working at it.  The original guitar guy passed away a long time ago didn’t he?

Grannie is cool.  I have that one.  Have sort of slowed down on acquisition of heavy stuff lately.  Your return inspires me to rock on. Will play some Sabbath loudly.  Good for a cold day.
The thing I like about her voice is that it’s so real. She sings like people talk. Strangely, although her music is nothing like his, I think she’s like Sinatra in this aspect. A cadence in harmony with the language. I’m weird, I know. Just dig her natural unpretentious ways.
@tomic601 sorry that record is putting you through such paces.

sometimes I move my Fortes around my living room to different effect.  They actually sound really good pushed all the way into the corners on Chesky stuff.  The sound effects are cool.  But really it’s more about the music than the sound tricks.  I just think that record is beautiful music in its recording space.  Her voice, the strings and the percussion.  It really doesn’t sound right in your normal setup?
@richmon  Wow a new Nektar record after, what, a lifetime.... have to check it out.  Remember the Future” has always been one of my favorites.
@tomic601 i love that album, as you know.
Hey, if you haven’t heard it, see what you think of this:
