@tomic601 https://www.discogs.com/user/moleculesinmotion Try that if it doesn’t work go to the web page (not the ap) and type his store name in the search box. |
@rafevw. I’d be genuinely surprised if your ratings don’t prove to be conservative. I saw Beth Horton just a little while ago front the whole mercury Rev Bobby Gentry delta sweetee record. (As you maybe already know she leads the vocal on one cut on the record). Did real fine on the rest too live. Btw, recommend that you stream that record if you don’t already know it. Wonderfully atmospheric sounds and really cool lead vocals from some of the best ladies we got around here. Good luck with the continuing sales. Again, you’ve got some nice records. Seems like Your father in law had good taste. |
@noromance I don’t know much at all about that scene (have some nick drake of course) and aside from my two oldest friends and myself don’t know anybody who owns or has even heard, let alone likes, early al Stewart. When I got to college and put on bed-sitter images, et. al. they’d come by my dorm room and make barfing noises. Anyway, thanks for turning me on to Roy’s music. I hope I didn’t give the impression that I think his work is derivative of Al’s. Maybe just appealing to me in a similar way. I’m almost old enough to appreciate the context and have always liked this kind of thing (vs. more pop stuff). Roy seems to have a lot of integrity and well respected musician friends. Maybe he held out against commercialism and didn’t get to be so well known. That would sure be admirable to me. Will check out the other suggestions of your favorites of his when I’m in a sufficiently folky mood swing. |
@noromance yes. I streamed a couple of Roy’s albums this afternoon and evening outside by the fire pit and had myself one of those strange experiences listening to music you’ve pretty sure you’ve never heard before but somehow reaches down into the recesses of memory and familiarity. Not exactly Deja vu, just digging it. Anyway, listened to “collection “ and his Folkjokeopus, which, you gotta admit sounds a lot like al in his early days before he started coming over here with his more commercial offerings. Anyway, great stuff. Thanks for the inspiration. ———————- Albert Cummings Believe recorded at Muscle Shoals and it’s definitely atmospheric. Pregame! Got a ticket to see his show tonight at the ancient but recently revived Alberta Rose. Most excellent small venue. Maybe he’ll sign my record.... |
I looked at my shelves and counted just a little more than 150 albums that I bought on Discogs in 2019. One delivery of 2 records came in a water soaked cardboard mailer from France. The records were fine but the jackets were wrecked. I sent photos and the seller immediately refunded my full payment and didn’t ask me to send them back. I gave him a great review ‘cause damage during shipping was certainly not his fault. I imagine the French postal system as at least as bad as ours. On one other purchase the record and jacket were about like you’re describing Uber, off the scale bad. Jacket torn and writing all over it and a record that looked like it was wiped with a Reece’s peanut butter cup. I sent a message and the guy said he’d follow up with the underling that grades his records (operation out of a big used shop in Berkeley that I never liked much....). And offered recompense if I wanted to return it. I told him I appreciated that but to forget it. I left off any review and dropped it. I mean, it was probably a $10 purchase so who cares really. Not worth a trip to the post office. Most of The rest were all about as Greg describes: a bit below sellers’ grading. Many though are clean and minty and I give their sellers rave reviews. I think for me overall Discogs is an amazing resource. I buy less than half my records from there but think about it. Where is somebody going to find that early hard rock album that they’re obsessed with if it’s not in any of their LRSs? |
