Man, my second listen of this. This is a really good recording. Highly recommended

@boxer12
Good luck with the sub repair. That sucks.
Question: I (finally) just snagged the first three Pere Ubu albums on vinyl. Decided to go with new Fire Records repress/reissues, as they seem to consistently rate higher than the original pressings.
Have any experience with Ubu Fire pressings? Hoping for the best. |
@boxer12
Great to know Tim. Thanks. Have not heard Dub Housing and Modern Dance on vinyl for a long time, really looking forward to those, as well as Picnic. |

From NPR Renowned Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink died Thursday at age 92. The range of his work gives a glimpse of how much he was admired and beloved both in Europe and the U.S., particularly by orchestras and soloists who hailed him as a musician's musician, prizing the work itself over showboating and glamor.
Over the course of his long career, Haitink served as the chief conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam; music director of The Royal Opera, Covent Garden and Glyndebourne Festival Opera in the U.K.; principal conductor of both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic; and principal guest conductor and then conductor emeritus of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He made some 450 recordings of orchestral music and opera, ranging from Mozart's Don Giovanni to a complete cycle of Shostakovich's symphonies, as well as complete cycles of the symphonies by Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler and Beethoven (the last twice: once with the Concertgebouw and another with the London Symphony Orchestra).
Lost a good one today, but ran the race well. God speed Bernard |

@spiritofradio Dang Brian, you’re on a nostalgic trip. I recognize the pattern from my own thinking. Ha! Actually just picked up that Frank album, then looked through the stacks of similar LP’s that don’t get playing time. I do always play music that is somewhat relative. Grabbing that Anita Baker album was an odd transition, and thought I would hate it, but it was actually enjoyable….and was the gateway to get to Sade which has been on my minds radar for a few days. Yes, how my mind thinks 😁 …… |
@boxer12 Mickey Hart / Rolling thunder Man used to listen to that LP often, (along with Diga), but the SQ is really pretty terrible, so have a hard time spinning it anymore. Kingfish brings back a lot of good memories though. I believe Torbert (along with Bobby obviously) was in the original and on that album. |

Sir Colin Davis conducts Sibelius - The Seven Symphonies. Boston Symphony Orchestra. Philips 5LP box, I believe late 70’s. Italian release |
Second spin for this. The first I only had headphones, so really want to see how it sounds on the full rig….
Richard Thompson - Electric. New West 2LP gatefold 2013

|
@mammothguy54 @slaw
Thanks guys. It will be strange not having my beloved 2CE Sigs in my room, but everyone tells me the Treo’s will provide a level of refinement the 2’s cannot match. Can’t wait to find out for myself. Oh, then the fun of placement, tilt, etc. to get them to sound their best.
Can’t believe these showed up locally for an incredible price really. Wasn’t expecting to get ‘new’ speakers before my new preamp arrived.
|
Just arrived today….
Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance. Fire Records reissue 2018, originally 1978
This will bring back memories |
Should be picking up some Vandersteen Treo’s tomorrow morning (if I can get them in my car). ‘Surpsingly’ kinda fell in my lap locally via Don Better Audio. So I had to do it. But….I’m blaming Jim for being a bad influence 😁 |
@jerryg123
Ubu sounds fantastic. This album, along with the Modern Lovers self titled release, really screwed up my musical taste back in my ‘college dorm exposure to new music’ days.
Modern Dance is really incredible |
Surprised you don’t have it Tim. |
@jerryg123
Oh don’t remind me. I had Television’s Marquis Moon. Silly me, sold it to get some jazz albums in the mid-80’s. That LP goes for a fortune today. Live and learn…..to never sell your vinyl. 😄
|
Steve, the Aria Signature does have a phono stage, but I won’t be using that. Even though Johnny says I should try it. |
@slaw
Yep, have had a new Belles Aria Signature preamp on order from Johnny Rutan for over a month. Just talked to him about ETA, and said David is swamped trying to get all his orders out. But it’s coming.
And he also told me I better jump on the Treo’s or he would buy them 😁 |
@tgilb
Thanks man, much appreciated. So different from the 2CE Sigs (especially the overall size and mass), but I’m getting closer to getting them dialed in, and man, they sound great. Much better refinement. And starting to get them placed where the soundstage is really beginning to show itself. |
