@bkeske when I saw you were on a Kottke roll I wondered if you would get to “My Father’s Face.

It’s interesting, I have never purchased any Leo albums beyond the 70’s, as that is when I listened to him most. But, that is going to change, I do have my eyes on some of his work post 70’s. Well, I’ll take that back, I do have ‘Standing in My Shoes’ on CD from 1997. I have been real close to purchasing his newest on vinyl, as I’ve listened to it on Tidal and like it a lot. I would also like to get a copy of ‘Great Big Boy’ on vinyl. I’ll also save ‘My Fathers Face’ on my wishlist. Thanks

EDIT: Just bought his newest with Gordon on vinyl.

Nice! Glad you had a fun, and welcome back.

@noromance

Same for you Brian, but, be safe man……What a way to return from vacation.

Telefunken Das Alte Werk Series 1981. German release
Arizona Chamber Orchestra - ‘Mediterranean Reflections’ : Castelnuovo-Tedesco - Concertino For Harp And Chamber Orchestra / Rameau - Airs De Ballet From "Platée", 1st And 2nd Rigaudon (And Reprise) / Debussy - Danse Sacrée Et Danse Profane. Klavier Records 1973

Wow, this was a bit of an ‘odd ball’ pick-up, and never heard of Klavier Records before, but this was beautifully recorded, great SQ, and a great pressing. On 180ish g vinyl as well, a bit unusual for an early 70’s release.
Victor Desarzens conducts Carl Maria von Weber - Symphony No. 1 & 2. Lausanne Chamber Orchestra. ABC Records, believe mid-60’s
Just arrived….

Leo Kottke & Mike Gordon - Noon. ATO Records 2020

Man, this sounds nice
Vernon Handley conducts Sibelius - Zwei Stücke Op. 77 / Serenaden Op. 69 / Sechs Humoresken Op.87 / Op. 89. Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin w/Ralph Holmes violin. Schwann Musica Mundi 1981 Germany
Wynton Marsalis - The All American Hero. Who’s Who In Jazz label, 1985.

This is interesting, I stumbled across this when picking up some classical selections from a seller I regularly purchase from. I have had this on cassette for years, but under a different name. This is the first recording of Wynton recorded live at the Bubba’s Jazz Restaurant in 1980. It has Art Blakey on drums, Bobby Watson on alto sax, Billy Pierce on tenor sax, Charles Fambrough on stand-up bass, and Jimmy Williams on piano. I really like this on the cassette I have, but hoping this vinyl version blows it away.

EDIT: Wow, this is a nice pressing. I’m smiling. I will also correct, I re-checked, and although this was the same live gig in 1980 I have on cassette, all these songs are different from the cassette. Nice.
The Taneyev Quartet of Leningrad - S. Taneyev : Quartet No. 2 for Two Violins and Cello. Мелодия 1980 U.S.S.R.

Karajan conducts Tchaikovsky - Nutcracker Suite / Romeo and Juliet. The Vienna Philharmonic. London Jubilee Series. Unknown release date, believe early 80’s reissue, Canadian release.
Sir John Barbirolli conducts Elgar - Symphony No. 2 In E Flat, Op.63 & Falstaff - Symphonic Study In C Minor Op. 68. Hallé Orchestra. Seraphim 2LP box reissue, date unknown, probably late 60’s. Originally 1964
@slaw

ah hell, now you have to send some to all of us 😁

Glad to hear you are hearing improvements to your system, isn’t that the way it should always be? Never ends…..😉
From my haul of used LP’s I recieved last week, I’ve been saving this for near last. Incredible condition, the LP’s look as if they were barely played. Paid more for this than I usually do for old sets, but think it was worth it.

Amadeus Quartett : Beethoven String Quartets Op. 127‧130‧131‧132‧133‧135. Deutsche Grammophon 4LP box 1963 German release

Playing 127, and the SQ is amazing. Doubt I will get through all 4 tonight.
Going back to this set this morning, only got through one LP last evening…..really nice.

@tomic601

As @tomic601 brought up Mink, thought I would spin mine….

Mink DeVille - Return To Magenta. Capitol 1978
@noromance

Seriously? Did you look at them? You know a lot more than I do about these tubes, and have been looking for some smooth plates per your suggestion. Just wasn’t sure about the Dynaco/Telefunken’s and didn’t want to overspend if they are not worth it.

Thanks!
@noromance

No no 😁…..$35 off his $245 asking price w/shipping. So, $210 with shipping. Yea. That would have been a heck of deal for $35. Ha!

Still, not a bad a deal on smooth plate Telefunken’s. Just because they are rebranded. I’m not going to be upset they don't have the Telefunken stamping on the glass, I wanna hear the sound.
@noromance

Been keeping my eyes out for possible tube deals, and just saw some Dynaco/Telefunken smooth plate 12ax7’s for a very decent price.

if your read this, would love to know your thoughts on these. Listed on US Audio Mart, and as links aren’t allowed, search “Telefunken 12AX7/ECC83 quad (4) tubes smooth plate test strong on Hickok 800 transconductance tester”

Thanks in advance, or anyone else who might have knowledge of these.
Yep, I looked closely at the photos from the bottom. Looks like the diamond is there. In fact, downloaded and zoomed in Photoshop ;-)

Im excited to try these. Thanks for your guidance @noromance
He pulled them from a Dynaco pre that he has for sale also (I believe). Put new JJ’s in that to sell these separately for bit extra cash. I think. Maybe I’ll make him a counter-offer.
@mammothguy54

I have the original Joel, but mine isn’t anywhere near mint, as I played it so much ‘back in the day’. But, even though I played it a lot, yes, even on lesser equipment, I was always disappointed in the SQ. You can blame some of that on Spector but, IMO, it seems even more than that. It is a pity.

Eugene Ormandy conducts Beethoven - Concertos 2 & 4 For Piano And Orchestra. Rudolf Serkin with The Philadelphia Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks 1955, Mono

This is quite a wonderful LP package for a single release.

Claude Debussy :

* Sonata In D Minor For Cello And Piano - Maurice Gendron, cello / Jean Françaix, piano
* Sonata For Flute, Viola And Harp - Roger Bourdin, flute / Colette Lequien, Viola / Annie Challan, harp
* Sonata In G Minor For Violin And Piano - Arthur Grumiaux, violin / István Hajdú, piano
* Syrinx (For Unaccompanied Flute) - Roger Bourdin, flute

Philips, Connaissance Des Arts French release 196

The four 12AX7 Dynaco/Telefunken’s arrived today for the Hagerman Trumpet. Very nice indeed. Played an LP a few minutes with the Gold Lion’s I had in, then installed the Dynaco/Tele’s. Nice improvement right out of the gate in comparison. Silky smooth, airy, and detailed with an open stage. The Gold Lion’s sounded a bit grainy in comparison. And they sounded pretty darn good.

Nice.

Thanks @noromance for the help.
Richards Piano Quartet : Martinů - Piano Quartet No. 1 & Chausson - Piano Quartet In A Major Op. 30. With Nona Liddell violin, Jean Stewart viola, & Bernard Richards cello. L'Oiseau-Lyre 1970, UK release. Pretty nice.
