Elton John - "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy"

It's, uh, Fantastic!

Sweet Relief - A Benefit for Victoria Williams

Probably my all-time favorite various artists compilation album. Some really great Victoria Williams covers that sound like they could have been written by the performing artists.

RUSH - "Permanent Waves" - 40th Anniversary Edition

...one likes to believe in the freedom of music

@bslon  - +1 - Budgie / Bandolier

Bill, Love that record! One of my older sisters was a rocker and brought the 8-Track home. I used to listen to it on our console stereo...

Picked up the vinyl when around 1978/9 when I was in college. Still in semi-regular rotation...

@reubent +1 how do you like your 40th compared to your original?

@spiritofradio - Hey James, I'll let you know later this evening. I'm going to clean both and do a quick comparison. From memory, I think the new one is just a bit better, but I'm curious to know with some certainty myself.

BTW, if there is a noticeable difference, I may invest in in the "Moving Pictures" 40th. Unfortunately, I missed it on RSD.

I had the FM Montrose and it was a good pressing. However, musically it just didn't move me. I wanted to like it and tried several times. But it never resonated with me, and off to the Plaid Room trade-in pile it went. Don't recall what I got in that particular trade, but I hope it was worth it...

Speaking of Plaid Room Records; Was there yesterday and their prices for used records has gone up quite noticeably. They had quite a few used records priced $49 - $299. Obviously valuable records, but jeez... The stuff that used to be $2.99 -  $5.99 is now $7.99 - $12.99. And the dollar bin is now the $3 bin. :~( I still love the store and have tremendous respect for the owners, but I'll have to be more selective now.

@slaw - I somehow missed RSD. Didn't know about it until Sunday and all the good stuff was gone. Really, I think I only wanted the "Moving Pictures - 40th" and "America".

What did you get?

@spiritofradio  - OK, regarding the RUSH - "Permanent Waves 40th Anniversary Edition" vs. OP; I listened to side one of both. I think the vocals have a little less hiss on the 40th. The guitar solos also seem to be a little more distinct, not as much fuzz on the 40th. The vinyl on the 40th is a little more noisy. Overall, they are pretty close, but for some reason the OP moves me a little more. I would be happy with either. I haven't played the extra live LP's from the 40th set yet.

If it came down to spending $69 for the 40th 3-LP set, vs. $10 -$15 for a great OP copy, I would choose the OP. But I'm happy to have both...

Donald Fagen - "The Nightfly" - 1982 Warner Bros.

In honor of my 18 Y.O. son who asked me to buy tickets to the upcoming Steely Dan show...

Colter Wall "S/T"

2020/La Handa Records

This is one I’ve been searching for. From Morrow Records.

Thanks for the reminder. I have not yet been to Morrow records, even though it's probably only 15-20 miles from my house. I need to stop in and check it out. I have been to Mike's home a couple of times when he used to have local audio group meetings in his home demo area.

Cool. I still gotta get down to Mike's store. On my "things to do list" for this summer.

@slaw - Yep, Over the Rhine is another great Cincinnati band. Named after a historic district on the northern edge of downtown Cincy.

Steve, You're going to blow my austerity plan... Good thing I'm going back to work...

@spiritofradio  - +1 on Jimbo Mathis.

You are the first person here that has ever acknowledged knowing Jimbo Mathus. I love this album and a lot of his other stuff. But I have to admit sometime I don't "get" where he's coming from. Almost seems like 2 different songwriters sometimes. The serious Roots/Americana artist, and the joker...

Jethro Tull - "Songs From the Wood"

40th Anniversary - Steven Wilson Remix

Glen Hansard - "Drive All Night" again! Playing it for the wife because it's so beautiful. What a song and what a performance. Excellent SQ on 45 rpm vinyl.

@spiritofradio - wamono groove - I'll check it out when I get internet service again. Storms really jacked up Southern Ohio last evening. Still many thousands without power and cable. And the temp is nearly 100 degrees. We were fortunate and did not lose power. But lots of neighbors have been without power for more than 24 hours with no ETA for restoration.

@slaw  - Steve, my Best Wishes to you also. Hope you get through this easily and without much discomfort.

WTH? Somehow I missed the RSD drop... again. If anyone happened to get an extra copy of "Sweet Relief", or know a source that still has one in stock at MSRP, please let me know. Don't want to pay the flipper prices on eBay.

Love this record, and bought it on CD when it was originally released. Would love to have it on vinyl.

Oh, and Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there...

@spiritofradio  - Plaid Room lists their "damaged" selections on their website. No "Sweet Relief" listed... I'll keep looking, but fear I missed out.

BTW, I was able for find a reasonably priced copy of "Sweet Relief" June 2022 RSD exclusive on Discogs. Should be here next Tuesday. Hoping it was worth the effort. Have had it on CD since it's original release, and love the album. I'm not typically a big fan of various artists compilations, but I've always enjoyed this one...

Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives "Way Out West"

2017/Superlatone Records

Such a beautiful album!

I (as well as @bdp24 ) agree! Great album...

Sweet Relief - A Benefit for Victoria Williams

My RSD purchase arrived today. Really happy that Columbia decided to reissue this on vinyl. I've owned it on CD since it was first released in 1993. This vinyl release is a little better sounding than the CD to me. Really happy to have it...

David Gray - "Mutineers"

I like David Gray. I've had "White Ladder" in my semi-regular rotation for 20 years and bought the anniversary deluxe box-set when it came out last year. However, after listening to "Mutineers" more lately, I think I prefer "Mutineers" over the classic "White Ladder".

Any of you guys have either of these albums?

@loomisjohnson  - "radiation vibe" is incredible.

Agreed. I love that kind of pop rock. Solid hook. Makes me sing, really loud...

Frente - "Marvin the Album"

Pete Townshend - "White City: A Novel"

Sheryl Crow - "Tuesday Night Music Club"

Jimbo Mathus - "Incinerator"

New today, after a trip to Plaid Room Records...
