@tomic601 - It's been sitting in the "to trade" pile for months. Just can't do it... Yet. I'm going to give it one more try...

@spiritofradio - I'll give that a try. Thanks! |
@tomic601 - I have a mono re-issue copy of "Pet Sounds". It should be a good version, but it just doesn't do it for me. What am I doing wrong? This is a serious question. My local audio group friends think it is the greatest album ever. I must not be doing it right. I'm so conflicted that I'm thinking about taking it back to Plaid Room and trading it for an Adele record. Help me, please... |
@bkeske - Brian, thanks. I'm working on it. It's definitely a modern reissue on heavy vinyl. Will check the deadwax runout for more info. Been checking all of the releases on Discogs. Haven't found it yet... |
I sold 3 turntables this weekend! Old stuff, sitting around unused. Passed them on to new local vinyl lovers who needed an inexpensive entry into the game. Also sold an unused power amp. Now I've only got 2 HT receivers, 2 inexpensive phono pre-amps and a pair of speakers for sale. It's liberating getting this stuff out of my basement man-cave/audio room... Now there's room for new/different stuff and a little cash for a TT/cartridge upgrade. |
Chris Whitley - "Living With the Law" Just got my system put back together. I have a double-wide rack, 4 shelves high. A few years ago, I just threw it into the spot it occupies. Since I got the new TT and want to optimize, I decided it was time to level the rack. Six post racks are a PITA to level! Got it pretty darn close. Enough that just a slight turn on a couple of the adjustable feet on the Pioneer PLX1000 got the level perfect. Now I can move on to getting a new cartridge installed on the extra headshell. Have a line on a nice vintage cartridge. Hope it works out. If not, I'll probably go new AT. System sounds mediocre tonight after being turned off for several days. This system always sounds better after being powered up for a couple of days. Unfortunate, but true IMHO. |
David Lee Roth - "Skyscraper" Listening to a small stack of records that was gifted to me by a buddy who knows I listen to vinyl. Most of them were completely trashed and unlistenable. However, a very few are in decent condition. So, this DLR album is the first one I pulled out of the "OK" pile. Cleaned it, put it on the TT, and it's much better than I expected. Frankly, was expecting it to be a train wreck. But it's not. It's a rocker, with Steve Vai featured on guitar. |
@spiritofradio - Thanks for the welcome back. I've need to get back in the vinyl groove. Too many distractions ATM... |
Heaven 17 - S/T So much fun. Like it's 1982 again! If you have any interest in 80's British new wave, synth-pop, electronic music, this one is a treat. Love the songs and the sound quality and production is really good. Love it, but my copy is pretty badly warped. Think I'll look for a replacement... |
David Gray - "Mutineers" It's funny. I'm a fan of David Gray and I loved his breakout album - "White Ladder". Matter-o-fact, I used to consider it one of my desert island albums. When "Mutineers" was released, and a tour scheduled, a digital copy of "Mutineers" was provided to all ticket purchasers. Being a big fan, of course I purchased tickets and downloaded the free digital album. When I first heard it, I wasn't so sure about it. But, I gave it another listen, or two, and it started growing on me. Went to the show and was really happy to hear the show open with the complete new album, end to end. It was fantastic! Mesmerizing even! Fast forward several years, and I finally got a copy of the album on vinyl. And all I can say is that it is fantastic! For me, easily surpasses "White Ladder" and as an additional benefit, the sound quality is much better than the version of "White Ladder" I have on vinyl. Anyway, for any David Gray fan, it's a "must have". For anyone else who likes haunting, airy vocals, interesting lyrics, and something just a little different, check it out. Highly recommended... by me. |
David Gray - "Mutineers" Again! There are some fine songs on this album. Some of his best IMHO. And it's All Killer, No Filler! But the kicker is the final 4 songs from the album: "Birds of the High Arctic", "The Incredible", "Girl Like You" and "Gulls" If you're a fan and don't know the record, take a listen. If you aren't familiar with David Gray, take a listen. If you don't have time for the whole album, start at "Birds of the High Arctic" and take a listen to those last 4 tracks. Heavenly to me... |
@spiritofradio - The live album is excellent! Give it a quick stream if it's on your streaming service. I can vouch for the quality of the vinyl. It sounds great. Very intimate. |
James McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards - "Live in Aught-Three" Fantastic Folk-Rock/Americana album IMHO. Discovered when I heard "No More Buffalo" several years ago streaming Radio Paradise...
Curious if any of you guys have this one? Also, curious if you have any of McMurtry's studio albums? This music just seems to fit a live bar show so well... |
@waltersalas - Unfortunately, just missed a chance to see James McMurtry here in Cincinnati last week at a great small venue. Might try to catch him later in Columbus, or Louisville. I'll check out his newest on Spotify and buy the vinyl if I like it. BTW, I used to really like Lucinda William too, but haven't loved her recent releases. Same with Steve Earle. Two great songwriters when at their best. But, for me, there best was years ago... |
