Mike Greene Band - Pale, Pale Moon

Holy smokes man, I have that album in the racks. Bought it back when it first came out. Didn’t think anyone else had ever heard it 😄

@big_greg

Those look pretty nice, and an azimuth adjustment to boot. Looks very similar to the stock Jelco 850 headshell that came with my arm.

I bought a wood Soundsmith headshell about a month and a half ago in anticipation of the MIMC Star, but that looks like it would have been a great choice as well.
@tomic601

Thanks Jim. Glad I was patient and waited, a very good deal on that cart new, about $1,250 vs $2,000.

I’m very interested to see how the Hagerman Trumpet and it ‘dance’ together. It will mean the Trumpet fet stage will be in use with it. So, I’m very curious…..And a ruby cantilever to boot.

Parker, who built it, said he is sure I will like it. He feels their Zephyr line is an absolute steal for the money.
I was in error, the MIMC has a sapphire cantilever, not ruby. Should be a good math for the SOTA, ha!
Karajan conducts Brahms - The Four Symphonies. Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Deutsche Grammophon 4LP box, reissued 1974. Originally 1965. German release
@almosthome

@bkeskePale Pale Moon has been a fave for a long time, I'm still looking for the second album.

May have to pull mine and play it. It’s literally been over 30+ years since I listened to it.
@noromance

@bkeske Interested in how the LO sounds with FET vs HO direct. Use same headshell for comparison.

As am I Brian.

Sounds interesting to use the same headshell to compare, but purchased a wood Soundsmith for the MIMC Star. I’m pretty committed to that combo right now.

Grateful Dead "Skull & Roses" Barnes & Noble Exclusive

Nice. Somehow, my copy got destroyed. Not sure how. Still have it, but unplayable. Need to replace it, a great album.
Another I have not played in a long long time….

Terje Rypdal - After The Rain. ECM/Polydor 1976
@noromance

Brian, I must insist that you try the same headshell. ;-)
The wooden one will be distinctly different.

LOL. It may…..may…..sound different, but really, the Zephyr and MIMC Star both have Peter’s ‘DEMS’ technology, which is suppose to take the damped energy (internal vibrational forces) and propagate it within the cart body itself (a technology developed in the Sussuro cart) before it reaches the arm. As I understand, one of the benefits of a wood headshell is to help remove resonance within the cart before it reached the arm. I’m no expert, but it seems the DEMS technology is doing the same within the cart itself, so that benefit should not be a large factor of the headshell material, or, should at least be minimal.

With this new cart, I needed a new headshell. I want the ‘best’ (not most expensive) for the MIMC, so, why not use Soundsmith’s very own wood headshell? It’s the only headshell Peter sells as his own design, thus he must feel it is the best headshell for his cartridges if one is necessary. Good enough for me, and the new MIMC.

I’m sure Peter would have most highly recommended one of his phono pre’s (which I did consider) vs my Hagerman too. Oh well Peter, win some, lose some. 😁
Wolfgang Sawallisch conducts Schubert - The Complete Symphonies. Staatskapelle Dresden. Philips 5LP box. Release date unknown, but probably late 70’s. Originally 1967.

Not sure how many of the Symphonies I’ll listen to, but starting at No. 1. Sounds very good after a long week.
@slaw

Gonna be sending my Sussurro back soon

Expect a long turn-around….but…you do have a couple very nice back-ups 👍🏼

Have you ever mounted that MIMC?

I keep checking my USPS informed delivery hoping the MIMC might show up a day early (tomorrow), but, so far, still shows Monday. Might get about 3 ‘new’ LP’s tomorrow though.
@noromance

Are you using ebony or cherry (is that what they use)?

Soundsmith does not identify the wood used, but to me, it looks like cherry.
@slaw

I guess the reason you needed a new headshell would be for quick swaps.

Yep, all my carts have their own headshell. Well, except the Grado Red with a brand new 8MZ stylus; which I should probably try and sell. I highly doubt I’ll use that again.
While in that section of the racks….
