Well, this stinks. ‘We’ lost power for about 2 1/2 hours, and had to start my last selection all over again after re-warm-up.

And I was just thinking how well the power has stayed on during this brief little heat wave….oh well, sure sounds wonderful now…

Bob Weir-Heaven Help the Fool

I caught Bobby playing at a small bar in Tulsa OK (while traveling across the country, I saw a flyer about the show at a music store in town…had to go) right around the time that album came out. It was amazing seeing him at a small club.

Fear of Music, IMO, has probably ‘aged’ better than any of the Heads albums. And, well engineered too. Still  sounds great after all these years….wait…could probably say the same for 99.9% of my vinyl 😁

@noromance

Brian playing his Bournemouth made me pull this Finlandia!

👍🏼 I tell ya, that box I got is really quite good. Many believe Paavo and Bournemouth may be the reference on Sibelius performances. Had been hunting for a good copy being sold in the US, and finally, got one.

I have a couple Karajan ‘takes’ on Sibelius in single LP form, and are always enjoyable as well.

Bernstein conducts Brahms - Serenade In A. New York Philharmonic. Columbia Masterworks 1968

@slaw

Fingured I could not go wrong with Wildflowers Steve. I have the CD, and it is a great album. I believe the first after his association, production, and influence of Lynne on the couple before. I love Jeff Lynne, and like those Petty albums as well, but without his influence, the real Tom Petty emerges.

IMO

++1 Ian Dury (RIP) and the Blockheads

That is still such a fun LP.

The Modern Lovers, when I heard it that album for first time in the mid-70’s, made me re-think my musical preferences (at the time a dedicated Dead Head hippy). They were way ahead of their time when you consider when the songs on that LP were first played (early 70’s). I took notice, and could not believe what I was hearing.

Harold Farberman conducts Charles Ives - Robert Browning Overture For Large Orchestra, The Circus Band March, Set For Theatre Orchestra, & The Unanswered Question. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Vanguard 1967
After working all day on this ‘observed’ July 4th, I am going to spin some American composers.

First up:

Szell conducts Samuel Barber - Concerto For Piano And Orchestra, Op. 38, Leonard Rose, piano & William Schuman - A Song Of Orpheus. The Cleveland Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks 1964

ahhhh…I see.

BTW, finally picked up a strobe, (‘cheapo’ Chinese one), so am finally putting that SOTA speed gauge you sent me long ago to use. Nice to have. Simpler to use than my phone app, and probably more accurate.
