now I know most of you dudes aren’t all that into piano jazz but I must tell you that if you want an aural treat for your ears and brain with some relatively accessible instrumental tunes you might check this out. He’s maybe not that cutting edge and I don’t think he ever “played with Miles” but the dude did play for Sinatra on many club gigs in New York. Sweet.

IF I wasn’t bleeding boat $$$, I would get in line for a Vibrato....

If it makes you feel any better I’ve been in line for many months and haven’t heard a word of update.
Does anyone have the MoFi 45 rpm of Crosby: If I could remember my name ?

I can’t remember

@reubent Love that record.  We played an arrangement of his version of that chart in High School Stage Band.   Much fun on the Bass Trombone.  Streaming 2001 now.  Cool man.
@slaw Great to see that review Steve.  Congratulations!  Hope you see a good pickup.

@big_greg+++++++ on Tommy Bolin.
Anyway, more about the music on the record.  It’s good but he doesn’t really show off his skills the way I’ve heard him.  It doesn’t rock.  It’s more interesting in a musicologist way I think.   I think he’s trying to evoke certain directions in thought and emotions and memories maybe.   It sounds like things you almost know.  I think he’s a really good player, I’ve said before how underrated his lead playing is.  From this I think maybe he’s more of an intellectual than he’s let on to in the past.   Or maybe he has in the past and I missed it.  I miss a lot.
Hey Steve, it’s solo guitar (only) with maybe some very sparsely applied electronic or microphonic  effects - not certain. Sounds good. I’d say it’s very different from his more popular stuff but easy to listen to. Kinda nice on a Sunday morning.  I suppose one could either apply it to our type of focused listening or make it background for reading. Don’t know if you like solo instrumental records. It’s something I’ve loved for a long time but have had very few friends who like that kind of thing. In my collection I keep a whole shelf of solo piano and a whole shelf of solo guitar. Both in a wide range of genres. I guess I’m pretty strange in this way.
Welcome @mvrooman1526. +1 on that Pablo Records Jazz. Sounds great analogue doesn’t it!?! @slaw posted about a couple of Pablo issues lately. It’s a great sound.

Have to confess, Until recently reminded about this recording I’d forgotten how good the music is, especially for the period, but beyond that I don’t think I was ever aware of how exceptional the sonics are. Wow. So cool.

@dayglow

great post.  I’m with you man.  You have a great collection too.

@big-_greg  Glad you got that UFO.  I got it too.  Waiting for the right time to unwrap it. Don’t really want to make the first listen on headphones - UFO doesn’t qualify for the mutually acceptable list....

Well no Steve, not kidding you - he’s a pretty good banjo player. Pretty sure he wasn’t born with that name though....

Laguna Beach surfer dude who’s exactly my age. He put out a couple of records playing pretty obscure stuff way back but now has these orchestrated concertos for banjo that are pretty fine indeed.
I agree about Railroad Earth Jim.  Have loved their shows.
