Yes - "Tales From Topographic Oceans"
OK, haven't listened to this one in probably 35-40 years. Was a big fan of Yes back in the day. Bought this 1973 release from their back catalog sometime around 1979. Didn't really like it then. Let's see how it goes... It's a double LP, so it might close out the night for me.

John Prine - "Diamonds in the Rough"
|
John Hunter - "Famous at Night"
1984 calling! It’s straight ’80’s pop rock, heavy on the synthesizer. But, I must say, this is about as good of sound quality as you’ll find with this kind of music.
Don’t recall when/why I bought this back in 1984. I do recall the single "Tragedy" getting airplay on the local radio station back at the time. I also remember hearing "Sad Songs on the Radio" getting airplay.
I’m doing a pretty deep cull of my collection. But I think I’ll keep this one as the SQ is so good, it is so representative of the period of time and it likely has no value as a sell/trade item. Back on the shelf it goes, to be revisited again in 10-20 years...

Pete Townshend - "The Iron Man" - Promo

@bslon - Thank you for the comment. I find that sometimes an explanation or comment is needed/helpful. And sometimes it's not. For instance: A comment about John Hunter - "Famous at Night" might be warranted. A comment about The Who - "Who's Next" may not be...
It's all about sharing the music Brother! Keep 'em coming...

@dredison - "Meddle" pre-dates my early music discovery days by just a few years. Was still in elementary school when it was released. "Dark Side of the Moon" was popular on the radio during my early high-school years, and "Animals" come out during my late high school years. By then, I was all-in on Pink Floyd...
BTW, I love "Fearless". Great song.
Happy Weekend to You, and All...

Keith Richards - "Talk is Cheap" 30th Anniversary Edition |
The Moody Blues - "Caught Live +5"
Last listen was 35-40 years ago. Must be a reason? Let's see...
|
@dayglow - I love "Eyes of Silver" and "Down in the Track". "Another Park, Another Sunday" ain't bad either. Oh, and closing with "Flying Cloud" is brilliant too..
Happy Weekend!

The Doobie Brothers-What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits
Worth upgrading to a better copy. This is a great record IMHO.

@cincinnatipete - Welcome to the "
What's on your turntable tonight?" thread, the best thread on AudiogoN!
I'm a Cincinnati guy too. I like your picks........ |
@spiritofradio - Hey James. Wow, small world. Plaid Room is my LRS of choice. Great guys with a fun story regarding how they came to be. They also have a record label - Colemine Records, re-issue old records and have a few new artist that they produce and distribute.
Makes me happy that you are a customer for them. You're spending you money with the good guys...... |
@cincinnatipete - Have you been to Plaid Room Records in Loveland, OH? Great record store IMHO and really nice people. |
Yep, we're real troublemakers...... |
@tomic601 - CC-2? Do you have an Audionics CC-2 Amplifier? I had 2 back in the day early/mid-eighties. I first got one and ran it in stereo. Later bought another and ran them bridged. Loved those amps. I also had the matching Audionics BT-2 pre-amp. These were a rocking combo with my Clements Audio RT-7 speakers (true ribbon tweeter/transmission line bass).
Yes, I was "all that" back in the day. Living in a lake house with the boat in a covered dock in the back yard. Not sure when it all started turning for the worse. Probably about the time my hair started thinning........ ;~) |
@sbank - Hey Spencer. I'd never heard of the "Naked" remix of "Let it Be". Had to goggle it and read the Wiki page. I'll give it a shot via streaming...
Thanks, and Happy Weekend...

@slaw - Hey Steve! I love "Notes of Blue". Curious, why do you have 4 copies? |
Son Volt - "Notes of Blue"
Thanks Steve for the reminder...... So good |
@whatsaftumch - Welcome to the Best Thread on AudiogoN! You've posted some great stuff!
I bought Lloyd Cole & The Commotions - "Rattlesnakes" on CD when it was first released. Was one of my first CDs, after XTC - "English Settlement". Always loved "Perfect Skin" and especially "Speedboat".

Lee Moses - "Time and Place"
Real soul music....... |
Uriah Heep - "Demons and Wizards" |
@slaw - Hey Steve, got 2 MyMats left for me? If so, please tell me how to order. PM me if you want.... |
|
Anyone got a modern version of "Who's Next" that you can recommend? I think finding a clean original copy, at a reasonable price, might be difficult. Any to avoid?

@j_husker - Congrats on the vintage Kenwood TT. I've always wanted one of the Kenwood "The Rock" turntables since I first saw one in the early '80s. There is a guy locally who has a kd-550 he may want to sale. I really should go take a look at it...

@mammothguy54 - I bought my NM/NM- copy of Danny and the Fat Boys - "American Music" two weeks ago for $40. It is a fantastic album overall, although I don't love the first 2 selections on the first side. They are not bad, they are just a style/genre I don't love. However, everything else is simply amazing to me...
|
@sbank - Hey Spencer. Thanks for the recommendation of Robbie Robertson - "How to be Clairvoyant". It came yesterday and I had my first listen yesterday afternoon.
@reubent impressions of "Clairvoyant"? I find it smooth as 30yr. old scotch.
So my impressions are mixed. I like the songs, I'm lukewarm on the production. The bass is mixed a bit heavy and wooly IMHO. I like the production quality of the S/T release much better. But the S/T release is from 1987. Older than 30 y.o. scotch. And smoother too...
I give it another go in the next few days. Maybe it's aged a bit since my first listen.
|
The Family of Mann - "First Light"
I have no idea where this album came from. I don’t recall buying it. Maybe it came in one of the small lots that were gifted to me. Seems out of place for any of those lots as it’s NM, and most of those were, uh, not...
Anyway, taking a listen and it’s pretty good so far.
Edit: OK, this record is much better than I was expecting. First, it is in MN condition and plays very quietly. SQ is very good. Musically, pretty good too. It's a keeper. Saved from the deep cull. Going back on the shelf.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - "The Nashville Sound"

@j_husker
Klaatu-S/T
I really like that album. And I like the back story too...

Took the latest pile of culls to Plaid Room Records today to sell/trade. I had a bottom line price in mind - $130. Was shocked when the offer came back - $315 cash or $375 trade. Holy cow, record price inflation is real!. Anyway, I took $226 cash and the rest in credit for the following:
Daniel Lanois - "Heavy Sun" new
Robbie Robertson - "Sinematic" new
Morphine - "Cure for Pain" new
Elton John - "Rock of the Westies" used (sentimental value)
Joni Mitchell - "Dog Eat Dog" used (sentimental value)
Was happy as a clam! On the TT now:
Daniel Lanois - "Heavy Sun"
|
Elton John - "Rock of the Westies"
Not one of Elton John’s most popular albums, but it does contain one of my all-time favorite Elton John songs - "I Feel Like a Bullet".
|
Joni Mitchell - "Dog Eat Dog"
Had this on CD since it first came out in 1985. Just picked it up on vinyl. Here's one of my favorites from this album:
|
Broke the seal on...
Morphine - "Cure for Pain"
I've had the CD since it was released and have always enjoyed it. The vinyl is even better...
|
@j_husker - Good luck with the surgery. Wishing you a speedy recovery...
