Paul and Linda McCartney - Ram. Columbia/MPL reissue 1980, originally 1971

@slaw

Hi Brian, How are the Nobsounds working?

Hey Steve, just installed them. Joni was the first spin with them. So, haven’t had a chance to take a closer listen yet. Only using three with one spring, which is still probably a bit much for the weight of the Hagerman. But, we’ll see.

Had to go get my first vaccine shot....yea!.....so will be listening to more in a bit. Just finished some yard work.

Edit: Oh, and on a related note, have had the Gold Lion ax7’s in for a couple days now. Still breaking in I think, but the mid and high extension is better than the stock Mullards. A bit more detail and quieter too. I think I like them, not as ‘soft’ as the Mullards.
Prague String Quartet plays Dvořák - String Quartets No. 8 & No. 10. Deutsche Grammophon 1976 German release
Congrats on the MyMat adventure Steve !,,, i feel blessed

Absolutely Jim. Bravo Steve.

@mammothguy54

Enjoy the Ram album, Brian.  Always has been a treasure of music for me.

I will Joel. For whatever reason, I never bought that album, but knew friends that had it, and listen to it on their system. Had a later 70’s McCartney/Wings album but must have sold it….but…if I wanted one McCartney LP in my collection, Ram is it. And maybe his next, Band On The Run; the first Wings album IIRC.

Ram is a very Beatlesque album, but, after spinning it, was surprised the SQ isn’t better. Songs are great, the recording and engineering….not so much. Glad to have it though.

@slaw

Just curious, is there any particular reason you won’t be getting more of your magical material in order to keep selling?

Glad I’m getting one of your last, and my second MyMat.

@j_husker

Wharf Rat and Not Fade Away never disappoint.

Never. Two of my all time favs as well. And no, nothing compares to have seen them, with Jerry, play both and more, live.

Second spin for this....

The Music Group Of London - Vaughan Williams: On Wenlock Edge (From "A Shropshire Lad"—A.E. Housman) & Ten Blake Songs For Voice And Oboe. Odeon 1971 Netherlands

Nikolaus Harnoncourt conducts Bach - Violin Concertos On Original Instruments; Konzert Für Zwei Violinen D-moll, BWV 1043, Violinkonzert E-dur, BWV 1042, & Violinkonzert A-moll, BWV 1041. Concentus Musicus Wien. Telefunken German release. Unknown reissue date. Label indicates mid-late 70’s.
The rabbit hole just gets larger and deeper.

Just purchased 2 Brimar CV4003 1960’s 12au7’s from a gentleman off eBay for the Hagerman.

Originally from Upscale Audio in their boxes, matched and cryo treated, 50 hours on them. About $20 cheaper than Upscale direct. Was going to buy them from them, then saw these.

Oh my, the depth of the holes we jump into 😁

I am Steve, sounds really great. My Joni collection pre 80’s is now complete 👍🏼
Roberto Benzi conducts Saint-Saens - Symphony #3. The Hague Philharmonic. VOX unknown pressing date, perhaps the 60’s per the label.
@mammothguy54

Good to hear your vinyl rig is back in working order Joel. 👍🏼👍🏼
@slaw Thanks!!

Joni Mitchell - Blue. Reprise reissue Specialty Pressing.

And my first spin with two MyMats.

@spiritofradio

Very nice. I am going to buy that album as well, but it was always pre-order status when I looked. I guess it is available now.

EDIT: Just ordered it from Target. I get a discount and free shipping. Not bad for a 2 LP set. Should have it Monday.
Sir John Barbirolli conducts Vaughan Williams - A London Symphony. Hallé Orchestra. Angel 1968
Anshel Brusilow conducts Ravel - Le Tombeau De Couperin, Françaix - Serenade For Small Orchestra, & Ibert -  Suite Symphonique and Capriccio. Chamber Symphony Of Philadelphia. RCA Red Seal 1969

Vaughan Williams
Symphony No. 8 In D Minor

Angel right? I have that one James, very enjoyable. Mine pressed in 1969. Of course I’m kinda a sucker for Vaughan Williams.

EDIT: Just saw yours is a London release. Sure it’s the same through.

Just arrived from the UK today, in great shape.

Maazel conducts Sibelius - The Seven Symphonies. Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. DECCA 4LP box 1972

Leo Kottke - Mudlark. Capitol reissue 1975ish….originally 1971

Received today and installed NOS 1960’s Brimar 12au7’s in the Trumpet….Can Telefunken’s be far behind ? 😁
@spiritofradio

Also, you know he wrote his 8th as an 84 year old codger and had a time with putting the orchestra (especially the drum section) through his tricks.   I guess some people think his melodies can be too simple.  But there is a moment in the 8th when the violins are about as beautiful as I’ve ever heard.

Yes indeed. Yea, compared to Beethoven, or Mozart, etc. they may be simple, but still very musical and enjoyable, perhaps because of that.  His compositions remind me a lot of the romantic composers. From what I have read, the 8th was extremely well received during it's first performances, to standing ovations. Probably his most popular symphony.

As in other genres of music, there is room for a variety of various forms of 'classical'.
The Allman Brothers Band - Eat a Peach. Capricorn reissue 1974? Originally 1972
Captain Beefheart and The Magic Band - Doc At The Radar Station. Virgin Specialty Pressing 1980
Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere. Reprise reissue 1975ish, originally 1969
@noromance

@bkeske Didn't know you were an ISB man. I have a bunch.

Actually, the only one I have. I do pull it occasionally. Sounded great last night.
@slaw

You’re going in a similar direction as did I, when tube rolling my EAR 834P @bkeske.

I think I’m liking these Brimar NOS. Mudlark is sounding great, perhaps the best it has ever sounded. Not sure why I was ignoring the au7’s, but shouldn’t have been.
Oh, and the second MyMat? Wonderful Steve.

You're on a much faster pace than I was.

Impatient. 😄 No, actually, I’ve become quickly fascinated with tubes. Interesting how you can take a piece of equipment and change it with just a tube selection, but the base piece of equipment is unchanged. I can see why folks, and tinkerers, become smitten with tubes.
@spiritofradio

I thought you’d like it.   I can’t really begin to describe it.  She’s from another world or heaven or ....  well, I like the way she plays.

The Chausson concerto is spell binding.
Good point Steve. I’m sure having it retipped by Soundsmith would be twice the cost of my Zephyr. I keep hunting for a deal on an MIMC.
Anyone familiar with the Dynavector DV-20? There is a gentleman in Canada selling one, just re-tipped by Soundsmith. The Canada exchange cost to USD would be about $510.

Seems a very tempting price for a freshly retipped ruby cantilever low output MC to add to the stable. Less than half the cost for a new one. Looks very clean.

I trust your guys opinion, albeit, the Soundsmith engineer/builder I chat with at times insists that my Zephyr would ‘mop up’ most MC carts in this price range, and even more expensive.
Watching a replay of the Berlin Philharmonic concert that was streamed live last week as I was working….but…after that is done, received this in the mail today, and excited to take it for a spin.

Hilary Hahn - Paris. Works by Prokofiev, Chausson, and Rautavaara. Mikko Franck conducting the Orchestre Philharmonique De Radio France. Deutsche Grammophon 2LP 45rpm set. 2021
@spiritofradio

Holy smokes man, listening to Hilary right now, and the depth and soundstage they achieved just on her solo violin is pretty incredible. Impressive. Great detail.

Oh, and obviously masterful playing.
Václav Neumann conducts Martinů - Symphonies 3,4,&5. The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Supraphon 1982 Czechoslovakia
@slaw

Steve, I have three of her CD’s. The only one I really enjoy, from a strictly audiophile perspective, is ‘Feels Like Home’. That has some 3D depth, and a sense of players around her. The others were mixed with her way too ‘forward’, lacking depth and becoming very two dimensional.

Perhaps, as a live performance, they captured ‘the room’ and stage.

Does she simply play solo with the piano on this?
@slaw

Steve, Target struck again, they had that Norah Live set for $26 shipped. Bought it. Seems like a bargain.
Michael Tilson Thomas conducts Walter Piston - Symphony No. 2 & William Schuman - Concerto For Violin And Orchestra. Boston Symphony Orchestra. Deutsche Grammophon 1971, German release
@spiritofradio

+1 Brian.  You’re in for a treat.

Thank you for reminding me James. I had not checked it’s availability in a few days.

I also want to say, that the purchase, of all places Target, was very fast and well packaged. Whodathunkit. Nice, and a good price. Might have to see what else they offer.
Just ordered Richard Thompson’s 13 Rivers. Another snag on Target for a great price.
Waking up before yard work…

Joni Mitchell - For the Roses. Asylum reissue 1974, originally 1972
@slaw

lol, sounds like a plan. Seriously, I may consider that set.

Took a nap, up next…

Paul Kletzki Conducts Mahler - Symphony #1. Wiener Philharmoniker. Angel reissue, release unknown, but guessing late 70’s per label.
@spiritofradio

I’ve been curious about that Schuman Concerto.  How is it?

It’s engaging. Modern, and pretty intense. What you might expect for a young Tilson Thomas. Although it is a subjective thing whether you may like it or not.

I just finished listening to it, and although enjoyable, could not stop comparing it to Hilary’s Paris album. Which obviously isn’t fair 😉
