Very interesting and unique.

I agree. The steel guitar adds something special imo.

Charles Lloyd and The Marvels / Tone Poem
2021 Blue Note

Delightful double LP received yesterday, finishing with sides C&D.
It’s Poem, not Poet spellcheck…

Should be a fun weekend with a new piece in the rig.

Whoo-hoo, Brian! New speakers, new preamp, too cool! Congrats!

@spiritofradio

Good story James, I hope shipping charges weren’t too steep! 😁

Wishing for a speedy recovery back to good health for all.

@spiritofradio

We like what we like, it’s all good.

If I may suggest a couple of the better power pop bands, on Spotify I found Sorrows/ Bad Times Good Times 2010 R/I of the orig. 80’s LP
The Knack/ Get The Knack
Dirty Looks/ Turn It Up which is both of their records. The first LP (S/T) is best, which would be the first 11 songs. Not to be confused with the metal band of the same name.

FWIW, your final sentence left me feeling that I may have offended. I sure didn’t mean to.

Bill

@spiritofradio You missed out! :-) There were a lot of good New Wave-Power Pop bands in the late 70’s early 80’s. PDX was rife with these bands rolling through the Paramount Theatre, Euphoria, Foghorn, and other small venue taverns. Great times for cheap, entertaining shows (especially for a 20 something single guy) and I saw plenty, like U2 at the Foghorn (or was it called The Wreck Of The Hespiris then, cloudy smoky memories haha) when Boy came out—for a few bucks. I loved New Wave then (still do) and collected a bunch of LPs. A refreshing change-up from Classic Rock (was it “Classic” back then?) and Jazz-Rock CTI Fusion stuff which most of my buddies at the time preferred. My wife and kids got blasted with mix tapes on road trips and still talk about bobbing head memories of the Cars, Devo, Romantics, Cure, Cretones, Knack and others. Cheers!

@puffball08 I hadn’t played that X record in a long while, Billy Idol’s Gen X reminded me to dig it out. Ray M plays on it too, also produced Wild Gift which I planned to play but ran out of gas. Cool the originals are still together, there’s been some health issues. Haven’t heard Alphabetland but after reacquainting with LA I’ll need to stream it. Thanks for mentioning!

Jim, I tried to post a link to 10cc’s You’ve Got A Cold for you but couldn’t get it to work without calling in IT…some of this stuff just isn’t iPad friendly.

@initm +1Pablo Cruise, final track Ocean Breeze really gets rocking. Great keyboards and guitar. I play it often!

@slaw Steve, my best to you and family.

Jim, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young / Deja Vu

Roger Waters / Amused To Death

@big_greg Hey Greg, nostalgia definitely figures into our rankings. Me (and friends) about wore out their first 2 LPs when they came out. Seems HC did that for you, agree that the production was pretty slick. I moved SIU up the list over the years because the keyboard work sounds so good on my system. I like that you’re a fan too, as are others.

@sbank Spencer, I’ve seen a few of their shows too, the first time at the Portland Paramount Theatre as a promo for The Cars S/T by KGON FM 92 for 92¢. I wish they’d bring back those prices. 😂😭

BTW, spellcheck turned Ric to Rick earlier if you caught that…

Thanks @bslon Noted to Shake It Up!

LOL Spencer! I also had their music videos on Beta Hi-Fi back in the day, I’m a fan and a dinosaur! Reminds me to get the blu-ray.

@sbank @big_greg

This Cars fan would rank them (on LP) The Cars, Candy-O, Shake It Up, Heartbeat City, Door To Door, Panorama. On CD I’ve got a couple Hits disks and Move Like This—if I had MLT on vinyl it’d be in the top 3.

@nicks25 mentioned Elliot Easton’s guitar work, Greg Hawkes’ keyboards are especially good on Shake It Up. Great band, sorry we’re down a couple of members. RIP Rick, Benjamin.

Merry Christmas Y’all!

Best wishes for a joyful day with family, friends and maybe unwrapping some vinyl!

Cheers!

Bill

@tomic601 Thanks for the Lyra customer service info, I hope I never need it but good to know.

@sbank +1 Small Faces, good stuff!
