Well, I wouldn’t call it ‘audiophile’ SQ, but not so bad for a live recording overall. I’ve head worse. I didn’t purchase it originally for that purpose, but rather, being a huge George fan, it was simply a ‘must have’ for me at the time, and a great collection of musicians getting together for a good cause; As crazy as it was for George to pull it off.

To me, a great addition to any collection, regardless.

Pierre Boulez conducts Falla - Three Cornered Hat & Harpsichord Concerto. New York Philharmonic. Columbia Masterworks 1976
Szell conducts - Mendelssohn: Incidental Music To "A Midsummer Night's Dream," Op. 61 & Schubert: Incidental Music To "Rosamunde". The Cleveland Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks reissue, approx early 70’s, originally 1967
Szell conducts Brahms - The Four Symphonies. The Cleveland Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks 3LP box set 1967

@bkeske, have any of the clubs reopened around Cleveland , like Beachland?

I believe the Beachland is open again, but capacity is extremely limited, and with many precautions in place. Not sure about places like the Agora, House of Blues, Phantasy in Lakewood, etc.

To be honest, as I don’t drink any more, I have not frequented those types of clubs for years now.

Luna “Bewitched”

Great album. Albeit, I only have it on CD
Robert Craft conducts Schoenberg - The Music Of Arnold Schoenberg - Volume One. Erwartung, Concerto For Violin And Orchestra, Pierrot Lunaire, Die Glückliche Hand, & A Survivor From Warsaw. Opera Society Of Washington, Columbia Chamber Ensemble, & CBC Symphony Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks reissue 2LP set, I believe from the early 70’s per label. Originally 1962
Herbert Blomstedt conducts Nielsen - Volume 1 - Symphony No.1 In G Minor, Op. 7, Symphony No. 2, Op. 16 ("The Four Temperaments"), & Symphony No. 3, Op. 27 "(Espansiva"). Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Seraphim 3LP box set 1975

Just arrived a few minutes ago. I’m planning to replace all my Beatles collection with newer releases, primarily because my original releases are in such poor shape. The first replacement was because this LP had the most damage on one side, because of my carelessness with a cigarette while flipping and chatting during playing it a long long time ago. So, really, I haven’t really played my original copy at all.

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour. Capitol reissue/remaster 180g. The remaster was from 2009 (digital), this, I believe this was released in 2012, but confusing. It closely aligns with a US release at the time, but the shrink was stamped ‘made in Germany’. I cannot find a Discog release that really matches it. Originally 1967.

@slaw

Jazz is sounding especially good on the Grados.

I just got a pair of Grado 325’s Steve. Surprisingly good. Nothing close to speakers, but better than the Sennheiser they replaced.

I’m just not a headphone guy, but, thinking way ahead when I could be forced out of my home for potential health reasons (yes, I’m seeing it in my 87 yo mother as you are). So, checking out whether the Grado sound may be acceptable for that use in an apartment, should it ever come to that. Purchased an inexpensive tube Bellari headphone amp, which is pretty good for the cost. Replaced the crappy stock tube with an EI Smooth plate 12AX7 tube, manufactured with Telefunken machinery. A nice tube actually compared to other I have, including my old Tele smooth plates.

@slaw

Yep, I look for a good blue box copy all the time. It seems the cost has gone up quite a bit in the last couple years for a VG+/NM set. Most I see are in the $500~700 range.

Neil Young with Crazy Horse - Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere. Reprise reissue mid-70’s, originally 1969

The Chamber Music Society Of Lincoln Center - Various. The Classics Record Company 4LP box set 1975

Not sure how many of these I’ll listen to....starting with Beethoven - String Trio In G, Op. 9, No. 1 & Schumann - Fantasy Pieces For Clarinet & Piano, Op. 73
Szell conducts Brahms - Piano Concerto No. 2 In B-Flat Major. The Cleveland Orchestra w/Leon Fleisher, piano. Odyssey reissue 1973, originally 1963 mono (which I also have).

Asked Jim Hagerman about using a 16v LPS I have sitting around on the Trumpet (15v power supply). He said it should be fine, just run a little warmer is all. So, just hooked it up to try out. Otherwise it is either a doorstop, or a 16v LPS I would have to try and sell. May leave it in, maybe not....we’ll see....

How is that Berg Quartet release Brian? Looks like the sole release of that LP.

The Music Group Of London plays Vaughan Williams - String Quartets Nos 1 & 2. EMI/His Master’s Voice 1973 UK
Received a batch of ‘new’ LP’s today. All in wonderful shape (have bought quite a few from this guy on eBay over the last moth or so). First up...

RBM Records 1983 Germany

I typically shy away from classical solo or duo piano works as the recordings can be pretty bad at times, but as this was on a reputable label, I thought they may get the recording right. This isn’t bad at all.

Michel Martin conducts

  • Debussy - Epigraphes Antiques

Just arrived today....

Luna - Bewitched. Gotta Groove Records, supposedly 2012, but I have a feeling later than than. Originally Elektra 1994 (CD only).

This should be fun, have loved this ‘album’ on CD, and always jealous of @slaw for having this on a reissue.
Steve, mine does not state ‘first pressing’, the last numbers are ‘-001’.
The reason I said that is in the dead wax mine has ‘2019’ in the string, not 2012, as indicated on Discogs.

Regardless, it sounds great, and so much nicer on vinyl. Glad I got it.
@slaw

Steve, I missed a release on that Luna album. Per the dead wax, it is actually a 2021 pressing (with 2019 in the string), and the dead was numbers match. I totally missed that version.
Yes indeed Jim ;-)

Just had to play in da hole. Have read some good things about the Gold Lion’s.....so.....what the heck.....givem a try.
@slaw

Thanks for the heads-up Steve. I have all those on really clean vinyl I just purchased recently. All except Blue that is. The only early LP or hers I’m missing. I have no idea why that album is so darn expensive vs all the others ‘surrounding’ it. So, for right now, I will probably pass right now and concentrate on finding a reasonable VG+ to ‘minty’ condition original release Blue.

Instead, with that money +, I finally, after much thought and consideration, just minutes ago ‘dove in’ and bought four matched Genalex Gold Lion (gold pin) 12ax7 tubes for the Hagerman. I tripped into the rabbit hole.
@slaw

Good luck with the new tubes Brian.

itchy fingers 😁

I’m sure they will be very nice. Got them for a pretty good price, so could probably easily sell them for what I am buying them for should I decide another direction. Just want to ‘play around’ a bit with the new toy.
Steve.....did I miss something? When did you get the Ortofon Cadenza mono?
I didn’t think you had a mono cart prior.
Man, pulling some LP’s I have not listened to in a very long time....

Don Nix - In God We Trust. Shelter Records 1971. Recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios.
