@bkeske, Congratulations Brian on the acquisition of a clean copy of that antique record.   Such a satisfying feeling isn’t it when they show up and play great.
I went through a fairly serious obsession with Fairport Convention and related music during the late 90s.   That period of our history and much of the then new music in it was so bleak to me but the early FC music was something to focus on that was real and good.   Maybe it was an imaginary nostalgic trip to a time and place I’d never really lived but wished I had.   Anyway, enough to say it’s pretty clear why music of RT & associates continues to appeal.
A lot of press and praise for Maria Schneider lately - it’s good and I like it just fine - but I have to say that she learned everything she knows from Metheny and Gismonti.

a recent ebay purchase from Germany from whence I’ve had good results but this, although appearing perfect, is one of the scratchiest records I’ve ever heard.  Worse even than my grandparents’ 78s.  Not certain if this record ever sounded good, don’t know this label, it’s hooded and muddy besides the tics, maybe double damage.  It’s a shame because it’s such good music and this issue has a really nice cover.   Will research to find a better issue for the ‘Pathétique’.   Please let me know if anyone here knows a good one.  @bkeske, do you have a favorite recording of Tschaikowski’s 6th Brian?

This does not sound anything like a furball - more like melted butter really.
@boxer12, Good to hear she’s on the mend Tim.  Hope she’s feeling better soon.

@reubent , @tomic601 , @boxer12,

That record has Gerry Garcia sittin in on the anti-Nixon song.   Played that one twice.
@tomic601 Crosby at Freight & Salvage, nice. I was gone from the Bay Area by the time of that tour - w Lighthouse Band? W Becca? I did catch CSN a year or two prior at the Marin Civic. Got to hang out with the three of them (individually, they didn’t really speak to each other) for a few hours in the afternoon before the show. Anyway, Crosby told me about the touring band he was assembling with the guy from Snarky Puppy, et. al. and he was really jazzed about it. I guess we found out why. I remember asking him if they were going to include “Page 43” in their set and he just lit up out of his pre-show funk. It was so cool to be able to tell him how much his music meant to me throughout my life. Of course this happens to him every hour of every day so... meant a lot to me though.
Streaming “Tarkio Road”.   This is great nostalgia.  Have to confess Tom, never thought of this as AOR but it sounds good.

Absolutely terrific sonics on this Nonesuch record.  The music has a nice balance between angularity and ease and is without new age softness.  You’ll love it even if you’re not that into Post Bop Jazz.

@stevewisc, nice haul!   I have that Beethoven cycle but had to pay probably $10 ....

do keep posting about the rest please.  Fun to hear.

@slaw I don’t have “The Westerner”.   I should probably check it out.
@bgross +1 on the Rosewood!  Also, nice stack of records.   Glad to see you back on here and more so that you tested negative. My wife and I tested negative last week.  It’s kind of a relief but there is the ever present danger which leads me to play more music.
@slaw right on!  Undiscovered gem in the Lips catalogue?    Hey, I saw today there is a new Fruit Bats record coming out.  Still haven’t heard anything about a follow up to Bonny Light Horsemen though.
@noromance I certainly understand. It’s not an issue for you but vibes are a challenge for lesser gear. The already relatively undefined note attack (and decay) on vibes can sound really muddy.

If you’re ever interested in exploring a cut that may give you a new perspective on vibes you might try “Hangin’ Out with You” on the mid-70’s era Bobby Hutcherson album “Waitin”. It just rocks.
@bkeske,  thanks for the info on the SCD Sibelius set.  The cost is indeed low.  I have another in mind, will let you know how it sounds.
@noromance +1 on “Picture This”.  I think vibes are a good system test, don’t you?
@bkeske,

Brian, how would you rate the SQ and vinyl of the Davis Sibelius box set?
@big_greg, Yeah, Becca Stevens and the other players add a lot.  More of a group effort really.   Very cool how he took those old cassette recordings and brought them forward.   And that Woodstock - really moving.
@slaw MFSL sounds worthwhile.  Music on local hero is very good but it does sound a little squawky, esp the Saxaphone.
