goofy record

James, I have a handful of Boult conducting Williams, have seen that one, but never truly interested me....perhaps I’m lucky ;-)

I am a big Williams fan though.

I also have a CD box set of his complete works conducted by Leonard Slatkin and the Philharmonia Orchestra, which is pretty good. The older Boult selections on vinyl are a bit ‘hit and miss’. Some pretty good, but none I would say are ‘great’.

@mammothguy54

😉👍🏼 Joel

Can’t believe I never bought that Crosby LP either. The 50th is outstanding.

Karajan conducts Beethoven - 9 Symphonien. Berliner Philharmoniker. Deutsche Grammophon 8LP reissue 1975, the original 1963 cycle. German pressing.

Man, I have always felt this was a very fine piano recording, but, this is the first time I have spun this box since getting both the Vandy Treo’s and Belles Aria Sig pre. Just incredible. Has taken a recording as this, already very good, and took it to another level.

I feel recording a piano is the hardest instrument to record well, and this a pretty darn good, even better now.

Just arrived….

The Fine Arts Quartet & Members of The New York Woodwind Quintet : Schubert - Octet In F Major, Opus 166, For Strings And Winds. Concert-Disc 1961

Thanks @noromance

Hang in there Steve!

Concerto Amsterdam : Hindemith - Die 7 Kammermusiken. Telefunken 3LP box 1969 German release

It’s very nice B. I don’t/didn’t have a recording of this piece, so nice to have.

As with many of these older recordings, your ears have to get comfortable with the recording technique and sound, but that doesn’t take long and you get immersed pretty quickly.

Nice performance. The LP looks really clean, but more surface noise than I would have expected, but, pretty nice overall. 👍🏼

More Zubin, the Scheherazade was excellent.

Mehta conducts Saint-Saëns - Symphony No. 3 In C Minor, Op. 78. Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. London 1971

Tough day. Tough week. Spent the day with my 96 year old aunt. Seems she is on her last leg of a very long and rewarding marathon. A bit hard to be back at my house, just waiting to hear that her race is finished.

So....per my mood and mindset, opening my Solti Edition Vol. 6 box set. Getting ready to play....

Solti conducts : Beethoven, Missa Solemnis D-Dur, op. 123, Chicago Symphony / Verdi, Missa Da Requiem, Wiener Philharmoniker / Brahms, Ein Deutsches Requiem, Chicago Symphony. DECCA 1981, German pressing
Thanks Steve, Thanks Jim. Hard to be sad for a well lived life, but of course, it always is, regardless.
Sir John Barbirolli conducts Vaughan Williams - A London Symphony. Hallé Orchestra. Angel 1968
Sir Adrian Boult conducts Vaughan Williams - Symphony No. 6 In E Minor & The Lark Ascending. New Philharmonia Orchestra. Angel 1967
@spiritofradio

How is your aunt doing? How are you doing?

James, thanks for asking. We are all shocked that she is hanging on, at 96. Her stubbornness to the end. Yesterday was not good, she was in a ‘strange’ place, lashing out, and not believing those around her were who they said. That was hard, but to be expected I guess. But, I think today she may be close to moving on. Sadly, I hope so.

I’m not going to rush over today until I am needed at this point. I’ll have enough work to do following.

I’m fine, but didn’t see this coming, nobody did. She hasn’t been well, (who is at that age?), but still, her current condition happened rather suddenly.
Carlo Maria Giulini conducts Britten - Four Sea Interludes, Op. 33a (From "Peter Grimes") & The Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra, Op. 34 (Variations And Fugue On A Theme Of Purcell). Philharmonia Orchestra. Angel reissue 1980’s, originally 1964.

Dang, haven’t listened to this for a while, it’s like someone chewed on this LP unfortunately.
Yo-Yo Ma and the Cleveland Quartet - Schubert Quintet, Op, 163, D 956. CBS Masterworks 1984
Zubin Mehta conducts Bruckner - Symphony No 9. Wiener Philharmoniker. London 1965.

Aeolian String Quartet : Haydn - Volume One: String Quartets Op. 71 & 74. London Treasury Series 1973 3LP box

Sir John Barbirolli conducts Elgar - Introduction And Allegro For Strings, Op. 47 / Serenade In E Minor, Op. 20. The Allegri String Quartet & Vaughan Williams - Fantasia On A Theme By Thomas Tallis / Fantasia On "Greensleeves". The Sinfonia Of London. Angel reissue 1980’s, originally 1963
James, yes, she has some music in her bedroom as long as it isn’t bothering her or keeping her from rest. It’s a good thing they didn’t put me in charge of that 😉😁
Britten conducts ‘English Music for Strings’. English Chamber Orchestra

Purcell - Chacony In G Minor For Strings
Elgar - Introduction And Allegro For Strings, Op. 47 (Quartet And Orchestra)

keegiam,

I get it, which is why I provide the LP info on the albums I’m spinning. Easy to look up on Discogs, as example. More than once I’ve researched some of the music posted here (and believe me, there are some interesting and obscure musical choices posted here, which I like), and purchased some as well.

Radio station copy
Ormandy conducts Rachmaninoff - Symphonic Dances, Op. 45 & Paganiniana. The Philadelphia Orchestra. Columbia Odyssey reissue, 1970’s, originally 1960
I can see a lending swap happening in that conversation.....the B&O For the JVC
@keegiam

Been watching this forum for awhile and I'm curious. Why doesn't anyone post links to the music like we do on "Jazz for Aficionados"?

Probably because we are playing LP’s 😉 Well @tomic601 cheats every once in a while, but we put up with him 😁

Neil Young - On the Beach. Reprise 1974

......had to edit my mistake on the release date....but man o man...this album sounds like I’m listening to it for the first time. Incredible. The Hagerman is settling in amazingly.
