The last one that came in the mail today. I’m very pleased to have gotten this, as it completes my Martinů symphony cycle by Václav Neumann. Really immaculate vinyl.

Leo Kottke - 12 String Blues. Rare. Recorded live at The Scholar Coffeehouse, Minneapolis, Minnesota (except three). Leo’s first recording. Leo, the following year, released ‘Circle Round the Sun’, which featured most of these songs, but all recording in a studio, and realeased for much wider distribution. Oblivion Recording Co. 1969

Finally *really* relaxing....and the Trumpet sounds Iike it may, indeed, be beginning to open-up a little bit more. Didn’t think that was possible. Or maybe everything just sounds incredible this evening.

Yes indeed.....I think it is a combination of things....but no doubt the Hagerman is at the heart of it. I’m specifically pulling dynamic selections tonight, and the Trumpet is ‘in all its glory’ and really shines on those LP’s. Everything is that much more dynamic, punchy, but also with a nice warm refined detail and control. Very nice indeed.

Brian, I like the way the Trumpet is designed that allows easy access to the tubes.

Steve, It is a very ‘utilitarian’ no nonsense old school look. I kinda like that, a lot, as it seems to be saying, ‘I have a job to do. I doesn’t need additional eye candy or ‘wiz bang’ amenities’. But, that is pretty true to all Jim’s products.


As far as the tubes being easy access. Well, for me, good and bad. Allows me to fuss with stuff like dampers easily, but as they are ‘staring’ at me, it just begs me to shop for ‘better’ new or NOS tubes. Thus far, have fought off that temptation. For all I know, swapping may not effect it much at all. So, being patient, and letting it be itself.

Finally done working for the day, Trumpet is warming up....

Starting at Symphony #1, then, who knows?

Welp, just finished that 5LP Schubert box set, complete. I’m a bit stunned. I’ve always wanted to like that set, the vinyl is in NM condition, but, it never ‘did it for me’. Something was missing, it seemed lifeless, and I’d tire of it after an LP, or two, and go back in the shelves. Today it was quite awesome at times. Either it was me, or the Trumpet reached into the grooves and allowed it to sound as I always hoped it would. Quite amazing really.

James, I was just listening to an early 60’s recording the other day/night, and was amazed how good a recording it was. I love it when that happens, as all weren’t that way. David Oistrach Is one of the best IMO. Often overshadowed, but think he was a great musician.
