The Floyd, Tull, Rush, and other influences are apparent but they wear them well. Great sound production on this record although/even though it is in in no way a live sounding production nor does it have an “in the room” quality that is sometimes important to close listeners. But it’s still very cool sound.
@big_greg, Seems like you could pair about any speakers with those.  Something I occasionally think about here in my low wattage high sensitivity bubble of splendidness.   I did see those on the EA site.  An excellent deal.  Very nice.

@tomic601 yep, yer right, that one’s ok but not all that much better than the OP. Not like the others which are high gain over the originals. I don’t have it but I heard that the Back on Black Making Movies is good to get.
Sam Amidon
All Is Well

Mostly traditional folk songs but not unlike Bonny Light Horsemen, they are totally reworked and with really cool instrumentation.
@slaw  don’t know how the subject of the VMP label (re)arose but yeah, they are mostly very good but I’ve bought a few of their records that don’t sound very good.  You have to watch out.
This typifies a particular guitar sound that was around in the mid-90s. Don’t know exactly how it was done (and I don’t hear it any more) but I really liked it then and still do.
This is a really good record. Guitars, spacey female sounding singer (like circa survive’s Anthony Green), lyrics, rockin. What more could a man/boy want.

Way better than way back then on MP3...

You owe it to yourself to get the lyric sheet.
On now, the most underrated album by the most unappreciated band:

Sweet.  Like a box of chocolates.

Will check out Gob Iron again Steve.  I’ve been playing CDs and Streaming for a couple of hours anyway while cleaning new arrivals.

Even if you’re not that into coral music (which I am generally not) if you’re in a contemplative or particularly reverent state of mind this is truly something.  John Atkinson of Stereophile helped engineer this.  Worth it just for the incredible sound achievement but the music is also incredibly good.  Very moving, even on this, my fifth, listen.

Beethoven
Violin Concerto in D Major, Opus 61
Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam

Arthur Grumiaux, Soloist

Violin Concertos
Orchestra Mozart
Isabelle Faust, Violin
Claudio Abbado, Conductor
Harmonia Mundi (Japan) 2012/2018

Very Nice, won lots of awards and was on lots of best lists and it’s obvious why. Unprecedented dynamics.  If I knew what I was talking about I might say the Beethoven is like an arrangement by Vaughan Williams.

@grey9hound Agree, and I don’t doubt it sounds better on vinyl, my own belief is that almost everything does if it’s pressed from a legitimate vinyl master, even if digitally recorded. I don’t understand it completely but it is my experience.
I heard the great deep bass and a lot of the production effects you write about and the recording is very cool. Unique really. Have to say though that I’ve never heard a record (it was on most of it not just one song) where the LR channel balance oscillated back and forth as fast as reverb. The success of that (unusual) effect might be system dependent. Cool record. Great musicians. And I agree, really interesting, unique, and good recording.

Just out of curiosity, do you know the Toureg stuff by +10:1 Tinariwen? If not you might like it. I’ve really been digging it lately. Maybe start with: Elwan.
Thanks again for turning us on to something new.
@big_greg, re: Diane Schuur & Count Basie.  Streamed it and Wow, it does sound good.  Dynamic live sound.  Will indeed suit a certain mood/attitude.     Thanks for posting.
@tubegb You’re very welcome.  Keep ‘em coming.
BTW, name of a frequent poster here @reubent is Tom which may have led to the mixup

Brother Steve introduced me to this fine fellow’s music and I am forever grateful.

This is indeed a kick.  Thanks
@grey9hound    The sound is really interesting, it’s heavily compressed and the left-right knob is applied to a level reaching affectation.   (Almost like using it as reverb).  Sounds pretty cool though.  Unique.
@slaw Ha! You nailed it. Didn’t realize it was big as a Volkswagen.... glad you are enjoying it. Not a bad endorsement when SW says he likes something.
I’ve been thinking all day about his comments about CD vs. Vinyl. He knows how to master using digital equipment for vinyl, of that there is no doubt. Brilliant guy. I think his mention of piano recordings is telling. They are tough for anybody to get that good sound.
@tomic601 thanks Jim. Certainly enjoy that kind of thing lately.
