I have a mono version of this, which is an excellent mono recording, but just received a stereo version in the mail today. Sealed copy, which is incredible.

I recently bought a Karajan conducted Beethoven Violin Concerto with Christian Ferras.   It’s big and full like a symphony

I’ve seen that album, but never heard it. Thanks for the heads up.

Just finished that box set, complete. Quite nice. Odd 6LP box set pressed in Italy, but there is even a larger box set of the ‘same’, but contains even more in a 12 LP box I believe. Karajan brings a lot of, ummm....’energy’ to his conducting, and it was well on display in all the symphonies in that set. I was in the mood for it, and enjoyed every one of them. All sounded excellent in regards to the engineering/mastering as well. The imaging and soundstage draws you into them all. At times I think Karajan goes a bit overboard and lacks the subtlety of other conductors....but hey, as I say, must have been in the mood for it today.

That was a nice afternoon and evening of listening.
Don’t know how many of these I will actually get through, but have never played them all through as a set in order. Got this set really cheap, and the vinyl is in really great shape. And I’m kinda in the mood, so.... I have many of these singly or in other sets.

Herbert Von Karajan - Great Symphonies. Deutsche Grammophon 6 LP box set. All with the Berlin Philharmonic. Not sure when this set was released, but would guess in the late 70’s. Italian pressings.

Schubert Symphony #8 ‘Unfinished’

Mendelssohn Symphony #4 ‘Italian’

Brahms Symphony #1

Tchaikovsky Symphony #6 & Marche Slave

10,000 Maniacs - In My Tribe. Elektra 1987

@spiritofradio

Lets just say I’m pretty happy. It takes a few albums to realize just how large the subtle changes are, which means overall, not really subtle at all when you sit and listen. Even makes In My Tribe much more listenable. That’s why I put it on, to see how much difference, if any, there was.

Big notes: Everything has so much more weight & realism. The instruments have weight, as do the vocals. Lots of punch in the mids and mid-bass areas. Sharp defined punch. I was interested in how much more ‘holographic’ it may sound with the tubes, but that didn’t necessarily improve as much as I thought, but rather, the whole soundstage seems ‘knitted together’ while also providing and maintaining very good imaging, if that makes sense. Like the whole soundstage is much bigger, rather than sounds over here, and some over there. It’s all connected, but not a ‘big glob’ kinda way. Overall very natural sounding. I’m experimenting with a couple tube dampers on the 2 12au7 ‘front tubes’ not the main 100 gain 12ax7’s. It’s interesting how much difference that makes. Takes a bit of ‘air’ off the highs and mid-highs, but perhaps more natural and realistic. Fun to try stuff and see what I may end up with.

The more I play, the more I listen, the more that I realize what this thing is doing. That Szell Sibelius LP earlier today was incredible.
@spiritofradio

Thanks man. Just tried the dampers on the 4 preamp 12ax7 tubes, and took them off the au7’s, and man, what a change. That more holographic imaging appeared. Tubes are a funny thing. As Jim would say....’fun’

👍🏼 Nice to hear regarding the new rig. Enjoy! …….and……probably makes you a little more anxious to get those new speakers 😉

As far as classical? Jump in, the waters fine.

I do believe my new Belles Aria Sig pre is really starting to settle in. I may be crazy, but everything I have been playing sounds better than ever before. Maybe it’s just today, and, maybe not. Johnny said to give it 3-4 weeks and it will start ‘opening up’. He might be right.

😁😛
