@dhite71, @big_greg, Found out Music Direct puts otherwise not advertised (not yet on the websites) albums you can pre-order on the back of their print catalog (rhymes with analogue).
@reubent

Hooters - "Nervous Night"

How did you know at the very moment you made that post I was composing one of my own about Khatia?

@big_Greg, I just had that same video come across my YouTube feed the other day too. Valued at 50 M in 2013, sold it for 2, worth what today, probably, 200 million?

Guy says “The Music is 100 times better on a vinyl album”.  He was right.
In my town if your friend in High School only had about 6 records that was bound to be one of them.
@big_greg, will take you up on that.  Grey’s Anatomy just had Redmond assigned to her group, consequently we will be through your neighborhood  occasionally.

Beethoven
Symphony No. 2 in D Major
Symphony No. 1 in C Major
Bruno Walter
The Columbia Symphony Orchestra
Columbia Masterworks MS 6078 Stereo
1958 or 1959 Recording (Reissue)

La Capranera Aglianico Accompaniment
@bkeske agree.  Have various certificates that come in the box with purchased vinyl from their own label.  Will try it out.
@rcprince at the risk of talking about something you’re already well on top of...my feeling about video is that the sq out of a tv is never gonna be ideal but even a mid-fi compromised setup through a good stereo is better than tv or computer speakers or, heaven forbid a soundbar.... I recently caved and bought an inexpensive little DAC (chi-fi, $40) and ran optical to it through the wall from my TV and then ran rca from the little dac (3”x4”x1”) to the spare input on my pre-amp. Of course if your rig already has a good dac within reach of your TV just do that. Anyway, the sound we get is just ok, but there’s a pretty good soundstage and the music from the television has much more human emotion. The first night I hooked this up we spend hours watching cello solos, chamber and orchestral music on YouTube. Of course to save tube life in the system I limit use of this connection for worthwhile videos and movies.
Funny.  Yeah, pretty good.  Probably worth dragging the orchestra members out of bed.
Hey Jim!

Led Zeppelin
Houses of the Holy
Atlantic 2014
Remastered and Produced by Jimmy Page

Had been looking for a new copy of this for awhile and decided on this the modestly priced reissue on Atlantic.  Might be a little bright but pretty good so far.  Alas, I don’t think I’ll ever hear it sound as good as it did on the tape deck in my ‘63 Dodge Dart.

This is one of the most spectacular experiences I’ve ever had with vinyl and it’s a $7 record.
@bkeske, as said, I don’t know much

Beethoven
Violin Concerto in D Major, OPUS 61
Arthur Grumiaux
Concertgebouw Orchestra
Sir Colin Davis
Philips 1981 Redux

Aristocratic and transcendent.  With this there is something going on in the world that I can’t even imagine.

@rcprince +1.   I don’t know that much but I do think that cycle is a good one, maybe kinda down the middle and, as such, a reference.  I have to say though, in my limited experience, I don’t think the sonics on those recordings are the greatest.
My favorites are the Simon Rattle with the BP.  I also love the Järvi/Bremen (smaller orchestra) cycle. I think it’s unique and brilliant.  Another favorite Beethoven Symphony cycle for me is the Bruno Walter/Colombia. I find it especially romantic.  I have them on both mono and stereo and like to engage in comparative fantasies and mind wandering with those on.
@bkeske,  yeah, I had a certificate for it, had it on my calendar, and when I remembered to look at the time I’d already missed 40 minutes of it.   Can one see a recording, do you know?
Beethoven
Piano Concerto No. 5 in Eb Major
Vladimir Ashkenazy
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Sir Georg Solti
Decca 1981/1973

Wow.  This is worth the whole thing.

Hey Steve, Did Ms. Pfister sign your record(s)?   I got a nice note with little drawings from her in Sharpie on mine.
Steve, yes the couch Album.  I have fairly clean Pitman, CT labels 1969.  Sounds like a quilt is over the speakers.  I don’t think it’s wear or needle damage although I think side 2 sounds a little better than side 1.   My suspicion is that it’s the master.
Which PP do you have?
Thanks Joel.

Hooded, off center, all kinds of problems.   Where does one go for a good/better copy of this record?
We love the Tesky Brothers around here.
Calling it a night guys.
I guess if I had to pick my favorite for the day it would be the Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Sky is Crying, Analogue Productions, 33 from the Texas Hurricane Box.  but they are all good.  No rejects tonight.
Yes!  That’s the one.  Side 1 includes “I ain’t got nobody”.   Wow. So clear.
I don’t, but I do remember those guys.  I was really into BS&T, Chase, Maynard Ferguson, and other music like theirs because I played trombone in High School Jazz Band.  Need to get it.

Santana
Eponymous (Santana III)
MFSL 2013

I just got this at a very reasonable price and man what a fantastic thing this is.

Giant Electric Guitar notes bending around and up and down in the room.  Wow I like tubes.
Steve,

Sounds like it was a fun show.  I don’t think I was going to the shows of any popular groups during that time.  Pretty out of the new music scene for a long while.  I admire guys like you and Tim who seem to have kept pretty current over many years.  I took a lot of years off from new music.  Especially live shows.  My wife hardly liked music at all.
@grey9hound hey thanks for the info and recommendation of the Boz Scaggs album.  I don’t have that one but will check it out.  I’m also interested in his Jazz standards album from about that same time.  Do you have that one and how does it sound on vinyl?
Also really dig Kruangbin   Nice Set this evening.
Steve,   The smashing pumpkins covers? No I didn’t.   I know you’ve posted about it.  Will check it out.  I don’t know anything about Smashing Pumpkins except that Corgan is a big Rush fan.  Which, after what little of their stuff I’ve heard, led me to think theirs was a mostly commercial enterprise.
@slaw yeah, she’s a sweetheart and into stereo gear....  there’s a video on Steve Guttenberg’s channel which is an interview of her by him.  I assume it’s still up but he really got a lot of jibing comments over it.   In it he is totally flirting with her and seems like he’s plastered.
+1 @Big_Greg glad to know you’re one of the lucky few to own that record.  It’s sure a good one.

Ah!  Then I guessed wrongly.  I’ll say though that Alvin knows how to get good sound out of a laptop recording.
I think I first heard about her from a Fremer blurb.   Didn’t know stereophile put out videos.  Will check that out.  janna?  The one with the binaural dummy head? She had her own channel for awhile that was great.  Now I just see her on a couple other of those gear reviewers videos.
Wasn’t hiding Fruit Bats. Just came out. Side one is sweet. Not too hipster. It has that sweetness, you know. It sort of puts me in mind of Clem Snide in a way (more than his earlier stuff I mean).
This belongs on the top shelf with Iron & Wine.

Yes!  Steve, if you do a search you’ll see I actually posted about Sophia awhile back, even before you found her.  At the time, Tomic and I discussed her in contrast to some other more traditional audiophile oriented female vocalists.   I asserted that although she couldn’t be more different, the sound she achieves on (both) her albums is incredibly good.   It’s funny, I’m guessing you came across her through association with Dave Alvin.  And in fact I started paying more attention to him after learning he produced her record.   I really think it sounds good.
@boxer12, I remember that Tim.  I think you’d like this.  They are definitely Pink Floyd fans.  Can’t say they’re showy musicians but I like their sound.
