Prague String Quartet Plays Dvorak - Streichquartett Nr. 10 Es-Dur Op.51 & Streichquartett Nr. 8 E-Dur Op. 80. Deutsche Grammophon. Unsure when this was released, but probably late 70’s. German release.

Sounds great.
Evgeni Svetlanov conducts Alexander Borodin - In The Steppes Of Central Asia, Symphony #2, & Polovtsky March From "Prince Igor". U.S.S.R. Symphony Orchestra. Melodiya/Angel 1968.

Wow, great SQ on this.

Have not spun these for a while, it was calling me…

Szell conducts Brahms - The Four Symphonies. The Cleveland Orchestra. Columbia Masterworks 3LP box 1967

James - Streaming Hillary - Paris now…..i may have a crush, again…. how is the tone color on vinyl?

Jim, it’s wonderful on vinyl. Obviously a digital recording, but IMO, still sounds better on vinyl.

Hilary is incredible. Have most her CD’s.

Agreed James. It amazes that some like to criticize her for being too technical. I get that, but then, I don’t either, as I feel real emotion in her playing as well. Her recording of The Lark Ascending is a perfect example.

The Sibelius Academy Quartet : Sibelius - String Quartet In A Minor (1889) & String Quartet In B Flat Major, Op. 4 (1890). Finlandia 1985

Taneyev Quartet Of Leningrad: Taneyev - Quartet No. 2 for Two Violins, Viola, and Cello. Мелодия 1980 USSR

Been busy, but got a couple new LP’s in the mail today....so got the SOTA warmed-up...

Leo Kottke - Chewing Pine. Columbia 1975

Fantastic shape.
Another Joni arrived....

Joni Mitchell - The Hissing of Summer Lawns. Asylum 1975
@spiritofradio  seemed to like this, so found a copy. Arrived today....

Leopold Stokowski - Rhapsodies. Works (rhapsodies) by Liszt, Enescu, and Smetana. RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra. RCA Red Seal Living Sereo reissue from the late 60’s. Originally 1961.

James

That music is most dynamic. Maybe a little more on the Marshall and less on the melodic than my usual want. But man, what sound. How did you like it? RCA is usually plentifully. my copy is on one of those fancy audiophile reissue labels.

I liked it, somewhat surprised me. As it went along, it kept drawing me in. Yes, very dynamic. And very deep, with great soundstage separation and detail the way it was recorded.

Glad I saw your post about it.
Karajan conducts Sibelius - Finlandia , Valse Triste , Der Schwan Von Tuonela , Tapiola. Berliner Philharmoniker. Deutsche Grammophon 1967 Germany.

Just arrived back home from being out town, and this was delivered.

Took me three attempts to buy a copy of this before a seller could actually locate his copy in their inventory. Crazy.

This was a reunion for these three as ‘Poll Winners’. Looking forward to this….thanks Jim for the heads up on this trio, never knew these three had a group together before.

Contemporary Records 1976

@spiritofradio

Kronos Quartet is challenging for me sometimes but in a way that I feel is good. I streamed that record and I think it’s very good. Thanks.

Interesting James. I think it was my CD’s of Kronos that got me more interested in ‘classical’. I had a chance to see them live at an ‘after hours’ party in a huge unfurnished commercial loft space. I believe they had just performed live in town, and accepted the invite afterwards. Pretty surreal actually, they, performing within this big space as others mingled and gathered around them. I was literally standing in front of them, amazed as I watched and listened.

Another Joni arrived today.....I now only need Blue to fill in the only gap up to this one...

Joni Mitchell - Mingus. Asylum 1979

This LP is in incredible shape, as is its cover. So many of these are worn, but not this one.

The Modern Jazz Quartet - The Modern Jazz Quartet & Orchestra. Remix/Remaster. Atlantic, Unknown date, but believe early to mid 70’s. Originally 1961

The Charles Lloyd Quartet - Love-In. Charles Lloyd, Keith Jarrett, Ron McClure, & Jack DeJohnette. Atlantic 1967. Recorded live at the Fillmore, San Francisco.

Played the ‘silver discs’ most the day yesterday ( gifts and thanks to @tomic601 ), and have been working most this morning....so....need some vinyl right now, and kept thinking about this LP...so putting it on the SOTA...

Neil Young - After The Gold Rush. Reprise reissue 1978, originally 1970.

Nice.
Jerry Garcia - S/T. WB promo 1972, originally released 1971 for the UK only.

Still one of, if not the, favorite Jerry ‘solo’ albums.

Haven’t played this in probably 30 years. What the heck, let’s give it a spin

David Newman - Heads Up. Atlantic 1987

@waltersalas

Television -- "Marquee Moon"

Man, used to have that album, bought it when it came out, but believe I sold it (along with many others) for some jazz albums or CD’s at the time.

Never should have sold that one.

Grateful Dead - Vintage Dead. Sunflower 1970. Recorded live at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, 1966

The Warlocks (pre-Dead). Creative Music. Unknown release, and can’t remember exactly when I bought  this. Rear sleeve states ‘MAY 3, 1965
LOS ANGELES’. That was not when this was released, but obviously recorded.

@waltersalas

I bet you'd enjoy that Green Pajamas LP as well. I knew nothing about them at all until a friend directed me to their music last summer. I'd call it my find of the year. Now I have five or six of their records and love them all!

Saved to Tidal, will have to check them out. Pretty large catalog

@tomic601

Brian - I don’t believe i have ever seen that Vintage Dead LP, i have the 1967…

Jim, if you read into it, it was ultimately an unauthorized release as a deal to release it fell apart. I cannot remember to details off the top of my head. But, I really didn’t know that when I got it originally, and me and my Dead Head buddies used to play it often. Somewhat like a bootleg. It’s actually pretty good all things considered.

Seiji Ozawa conducts Schoenberg - Gurrelieder. Boston Symphony Orchestra & Tanglewood Festival Chorus. Philips 2 LP set 1979, Netherlands pressing.

Really nice recording. Only my second spin for this set.

@noromance

Lester Flatt And Earl Scruggs And The Foggy Mountain Boys – Hard Travelin’ Columbia 1963)

👍🏼

@waltersalas

Brian, I'd recommend Phantom Like: Northern Gothic, Poison in the Russian Room, or If You Knew What I Dreamed to get started, and if you like any or all of those, start exploring. They've been around for 35 years or so, so it is indeed a pretty extensive catalog.

Thanks for the info. I'll look forward to checking those out later. 👍

Grateful Dead - American Beauty. WB reissue, unsure of date, originally 1970

@boxer12

Brian, +1 for the Dead binge! I’ve never seen the 1st two you’ve listed on this page, before.

It’s been fun actually. I wasn’t aware that Vintage Dead was so unknown. You can find it, and worth picking up for the collection. The Warlocks? Wish I could remember where I picked that up from, but as it turns out, pretty rare today, and actually worth a few coin.

OK, a little change, although many of the Dead are playing on this album too…

David Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name, 50th Anniversary release. Atlantic 2021

Robert Craft conducts Schoenberg - The Music of Arnold Schoenberg Vol. VI. Columbia Chamber Ensemble. Columbia Masterworks 2LP box set. Unknown exact release date, but per ‘2 eye’ label, probably late 60’s.

Man, this is a nice recording. Only my second spin of this set.

Sir Adrian Boult conducts Vaughan Williams - Symphony No. 9 In E Minor. The London Philharmonic Orchestra. Everest repress/stereo early 60’s, originally 1958

Boulez conducts Ravel - Daphnis & Chloé Suite #2 / Rapsodie Espagnole / Pavane For A Dead Princess / Alborada Del Gracioso. The Cleveland Orchestra. Columbia  Masterworks reissue, originally 1971

@mammothguy54

Hope you get it sorted. I hate when that happens, especially when the vinyl ‘looks’ great.

But, you got me to pull mine and give it a spin...

Joni Mitchell - Hejira. Asylum 1976

Oh.....and finally, after considering it for weeks....just put my order in for a Hagerman Trumpet phono pre. Can’t wait to get that baby into the chain. I’m excited.
