Spring Session M ..... Missing Persons.
I am sure some may remember Dale Bozzio more for her Hustler Bare all spread but she was actually a darn good vocalist. Listen to some of her work with Zappa as well as her own band here. |
|
Into the Light .... Chris De Burgh. |
Using a new to me mat but don't tell Mijo.
Courtesy of Slaw.
MyMat. Could not tell you exactly what it is made of but it works very well indeed. Very dynamic, detailed and solid bass. |
Steeltown .... Big Country. |
Boxer. Courtesy of Slaw. He makes them. Custom make too as I needed mine 293mm diameter. |
Manoeuvers ..... Greg Lake.
First time listen, very impressed as it is a lot heavier than I expected and very well produced. |
Probably Lou,s best there Slaw. I bought it cheap and was so impressed with it I immediately went and looked for a mint copy. ππ |
|
This one's for you Boxer. Just " stole" this at our LRS.
Good morning Spider ... Sparklehorse. It's the reissue but still....... |
Ain't Life Grand ... Black Oak Arkansas |
Mariposa De Oro .... Dave Mason.
OMG Greg......
Brings back such memories. My parents just HATED that album as I blasted it out at least once a day back in the 70,s. Lol. We commissioned a local artist to paint the cover onto a college room wall. Not sure it was well appreciated by following years though..... |
Next up is a real crass act... Lol.
Makes Kiss look like kindergarten rejects.
The Last Command ... W.A.S.P.
Blackie Lawless was one seriously deranged dude. But what an anthem to claim for your notereirity. F#@k Like A Beast. I mean seriously , and they got away with it... LMFAO. |
Happy Families ... Blanchmange. |
Unfortunately I only saw Kiss in their 90,s " we want to be pop stars" phase. Not a bad show but I'm sure Simmons in full war paint and drooling fake blood etc from the early days would have been something else! |
Slaw. Should have been Apart from the Crowd by Great Buildings. Was a short lived LA band, BDP24 would likely know a lot more about them I think.
Not too worried about the cost of the warped record, more the experience was illuminating. |
Boxer That kinda worries me that you know exactly the music being described..... ππππ€£π€£π€£ |
Here's something to think about.......
We all have unfortunately received albums that are warped. It is quite possible that they were NOT that way when shipped.
I recently sold an album on eBay that was genuinely in EX shape and I had fully play tested it couple days before listing it. Perfect, quiet and FLAT.
Buyer contacted me and included a photo, it was heavily warped. I refunded but this tells me that somewhere in its USPS travels it sat and baked for a time resulting in the warp.
Just something to bear in mind in the future before instantly assuming your seller shafted you. May well be a similar event. |
Bark ...... Jefferson Airplane. |
On another note (sic)..... Did anyone ever hear back from Spirit? π€π€ |
Starlight Dancer .... Kayak.
Our LRS has pushed up his prices a lot of late. They had a couple Kayak albums but $13 & $15. Found a nice store in Lexington last week that was very fairly priced and picked up a few goodies including a couple Kayak albums at $3 each.... much better! ππ |
Slaw I probably have a bunch to play you may never have heard of. Stuff from my misplaced childhood in Blighty!
Kayak were a Dutch symphonic rock band, well ahead of their time of the 70,s imho. |
Just ordered my copy of the new Kansas album, the Absence of Presence.
I had read a few online reports dissing it somewhat. But I streamed it this morning and thought it was very classic Kansas sounding. Not cheap but a must have for me. |
All I can offer on Norman.
Spirit in the Sky was the single biggest disco hit in the UK period.
If ever the floor started to quiet down a little all any DJ had to do was put Spirit on and everyone was up dancing and singing along.
I have the single of Spirit, extremely well worn...... Lol. |
Too funny Boxer. Only a bunch of Audiophool nuts would blow their Christmas bonus like this. Lol |
I am so impressed with the Phonomena II pre that I upped the ante and just ordered the Nova III. Hopefully might get it before Christmas. Spending my Christmas bonus already and only got it yesterday... Lol. |
Passin Thru ... The James Gang |
Ctwith3. I think it was only the Nova that had battery. The Phonomena ii is wallwart power only. In my system it best a Manley Chinook although I think it is mostly the 100k loading that really helps.
I will likely be selling once the Nova arrives as I do not need two Phonostage. |
Book of Shadows 11 .... Zakk Wylde.
Just bought this from FYE today, reduced from $45 to $15, hard to say no! Brought it home to find when I opened it that it was the LTD purple swirls vinyl edition, sweet.
Then my daughter made me proud. I showed her it as she likes cool looking vinyl and was about to explain who he was when she said,. "Oh yeah Zakk is the guitarist dude for Ozzy" Chip off the old block ππ |
Sent two messages via Audiogon to Spirit but no replyβΉοΈβΉοΈ |
Slaw. What do you think of the Feist album? I was on the fence over buying it.
And I was playing Abraxas last night but on R2R. Stunning SQ. |
We have a large indoor record show here tomorrow and I sort of really want to go. On the other hand I really do not want to be in a crowded room though.
πππ |
Good point Slaw. Had not even thought along those lines. |
Nice score at fye today.
The Voyager by Jenny Lewis on sale at $9.99. then when I get it home and add it to my discogs collection I find it is the European release. Now I do not know if that has any impact on SQ but sure it cannot hurt.
It will be up next. |
Rhapsody ... Rick Wakeman |
Black Market ... Weather ReportΒ |
I am likely prejudiced but the only Rainbow worth listening to is Ronnie powered.... Lol. Later efforts with Bonnet or Joe Lynn Turner just leave me cold.
Just like having the classic Deep Purple lineup. Rainbow.... Blackmore, Dio, Powell, Bain and Carey.
Yes I am opinionated.....π |
Music Maker .... Return to Forever.
Breaking in the new Nova III Phonostage but...... Already it is ....WOW!
Bass is immediately a gut punch and vocals are so nuanced. And it can really only get better.
Christmas come early indeed!
ππππ |
Poor Moon ... Illusion
45rpm 12"Β EP. |
Beatitude ... Rik Ocasek. |
Tomic Just wondering out loud here brother. You know I created a " what are you streaming" thread a couple years back?
I post on there when I stream, I know Greg and Reubent and others do as well. It's not as popular as here but still find great new music on it. Just my musings..... |
Greg Yes one and the same. Think around track 2 or 3 someone drops a glass, I know it's coming but it still makes me jump! I think Boxer might remember me also telling him that is a go-to cassette tape as well, just stunning SQ. |
Playing the first album of The Jimi Hendrix Experience purple velvet box set of 8 albums. This is the original release with actual purple velvet box, later ones are just purple card. This was nos and virgin vinyl. First impressions of SQ is that it is tilted up in the bass department somewhat. It's clear and well defined but I had to dial the subs back a fair bit. We will see what subsequent albums are like. |
Great album Greg! One of my go-to albums is Hot Tuna acoustic live. |
I was just listening to a cover of Rainbow in the Dark by Dio and it reminded me.
It reminded me that Ronnie was one of the greatest heavy metal vocalists to walk this Earth.
Sure he looked like an elf on steroids but man could he sing! Yes he was obsessed with dungeon and dragon type songsmithing but I forgive him that...lol.
I was blessed to see Ronnie in his prime with Rainbow in 77 and his own band Dio in 82/3?.
Right to the end he had hardly lost any of his power and range. So had to dust this off.
Rainbow Rising. |
Be very interested in your thoughts on the MyMat Boxer......
BTW..
Merry Christmas everyone!
πΌπ΅πΆπ·πΊπΉπ»πΈ |
Project Driver .... Macalpine, Aldridge, Rock, Sarzo. |
Big Twist and the Mellow Fellow , Live from Chicago. |
Good to hear first impressions of the mat Boxer.
And Mijo says they make no difference. What a tool. Sorry..... ππ |
