@slaw - It's pretty good overall. A couple of weak cuts, but "The Wizard" and "Easy Livin" make up for them. I picked up the LP at my LSR today for $5.99. Very clean, but not a great sounding record. Haven't done any research yet, but it's likely not an OP. |
Uriah Heep - "Demons and Wizards"
The Stone Roses - S/T
Silvertone Records - 88843041991
@slaw - I took another listen of "Demons and Wizards" today, in a better frame of mind, and it sounded much better. Took a look at Discogs and found it is an early US Mercury Bronze release. I'm not an expert on LP Labels, runout markings, etc., but here is what is on my copy:
Label variation: Red Label with Philips, Mercury, and Vertigo logos at the bottom of the label and Bronze logo in the center.
Matrix / Runout (Side A Stamped): SRM-1-630A-M1 GK
Really enjoying it. To me, several of the cuts sound similar to another band I really enjoy - Procol Harum.

@uberwaltz - Maybe you lucked into a very rare misprint that's worth thou$ands! Could be your lucky day! Or it could just be worthless crap. |
The Rolling Stones - "Emotional Rescue"
@uberwaltz - I don't think songs like "The Wizard" and "Easy Livin" sound like Procol Harum. But some of the cuts, like "Circle of Hands" and "Paradise" do sound reminiscent of Procol Harum.
Elton John - "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"
Finishing up "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", sides 3&4. Lots of hits and popular tunes from Sir Elton. But it's still not as good as "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy" for me.
The Beatles - "Yellow Submarine Songtrack"
Leon Bridges - "Coming Home"
Procol Harum - "A Salty Dog" - MoFi
Jimbo Mathus and the Tri-State Coalition - "White Buffalo"
I LOVE this record! It's just so authentic. Surprised I've never seen another mention of it.
Elvis Costello - "All This Useless Beauty"
One of his best, IMHO. |
@j_damon - Funny, Savoy Brown - "Street Corner Talking" is sitting in my "to play" pile. I'll get to it shortly....
Mountain - "Climbing!"
Awesome stuff. Passed down to me from my late sister. She was a rocker. She is also responsible for my Budgie collection.
@uberwaltz - I love Budgie! I've been a big fan since I discovered my sister's 8-track of "Squawk" in my family's console stereo sometime around about 1973/4.
Bob Welch - "French Kiss"
Midnight Oil - "Diesel and Dust"
@uberwaltz - I think my favorite Budgie albums are "Bandolier", "Squawk" and "If I Were Britania I'd Waive the Rules". Start with those and let me know what you think. |
The Moody Blues - "In Search of the Lost Chord"
They don't make them like this anymore..........
@tomic601 - Awesome. I love "Back From Rio", but it's marred by one stinker (IMHO) track. Guess which one? If you guess it, I owe you a beer....... |
@tomic601 - Yep, "Car Phone". Never liked that one, even back in the day, when it was relevant". However, the other 9 tracks are outstanding IMHO. Also, love the general sound of the album with the 12 string guitar overlaying everything.
Was lucky to See Roger McGuinn solo in a very intimate setting, back around that time (just a little before "Back From Rio"). Got me hooked on the 12 string electric guitar sound. |
Roger McQuinn - "Back From Rio"
Fantastic album with help from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, David Crosby, Chris Hillman, Micheal Penn, Timothy B. Schmitt and more..... Really Good Stuff. |
Ned's Atomic Dustbin - "God Fodder" |
Gare Du Nord - "Rendezvous 8:02" |
Gary Wright - "The Dream Weaver"
Gerry Rafferty - "City to City" |
@slaw - I love "A Farewell to Kings". One of my favorite records from one of my favorite bands.
Happy Friday! And Happy Weekend to All! |
World Party - "Goodbye Jumbo"
@uberwaltz - What? What happened that you're going to stop posting on AgoN? Please reconsider, if only to participate on the music threads. You've been a fantastic poster IMHO and you would be greatly missed. Please hang out with us here in the music threads. It wouldn't be the same without you..... |
@uberwaltz - Understood. The hardware threads, especially when the subject is DD turntables, fuses, cables or Class -D amplifiers, get really wacky. I do not understand some of the people that participate in those threads. I don't get why they are so aggressive in their opinions.
So, I simply stopped participating in those threads. I did not want to be the target of that group of people.
However, the 3-4 music threads, where I do participate, have been very enjoyable. I've learned a lot, discovered a lot of great music, get reminded of old stuff I haven't heard in years, and sometime offer up a tidbit to the folks who participate in those thread.
You started a great thread a while back - "What are you streaming tonight?" It has over 2000 posts. You can't give up! I don't want to have the answer that question that always comes up: "What happened to the OP?".
Hope to see you in the music threads. If you are watching, at least drop us a post periodically, so we know you're still kickin'.
Good Luck Buddy. I hope you have a change of heart..... |
Happy Monday morning! Starting off the week with a classic:
Pat Metheny Group - "American Garage"
@spiritofradio - "Come to Jesus", off of Mindy Smith's "One Moment More", is a fantastic song. It is high on my list of most played songs over the last 15 years. I bought the CD when it was released in 2004 and I still listen to it today. Great stuff.....
Jeff Beck - "Loud Hailer"
Brian Auger's Oblivion Express - "Closer To It"
Ass Ponys - "Electric Rock Vinyl"
Paul Young - "The Secret of Association"
What can I say? I'm a sucker for Young's version of Daryl Hall's - "Everytime You Go Away" and his original - "Everything Must Change". '80's pop vocal magic....... |
Humble Pie - "Smokin'"
Hot and Nasty!
Climax Blues Band - "Gold Plated" |
@bslon @tgilb - I'm a fan of ELP and have many of their albums. I bought "Tarkus" based on comments I saw here on AudiogoN. I've listened to it a couple of times and I'm just not feeling it. I'm going to try it again and see how it goes. Thanks for the reminder... Any particular track you love?
@mammothguy54 - I'm listening to it now. Will report back... I do like "Brain Salad Surgery", but my favorites are S/T and "Trilogy".
