Szell conducts Debussy - La Mer & Ravel- Daphnis Et Chloé, Suite No. 2 / Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte (Pavane For A Dead Princess). The Cleveland Orchestra. Odyssey 1973

@slaw, speaking of Let It Be Naked, word is the upcoming reissue of All Thinks Must Pass will also be free of Spector’s overdone echo & reverb.

As a big Harrison fan, I would love hearing that. It’s easier now with a better system, but I remember listing to that album back in the 70’s (a lot) with a much lesser one, and it really sounded all smashed up into a big sound fur ball.
Fairport Convention - S/T (What We Did on Our Holidays). A&M reissue, 1973ish. Originally 1969.
@spiritofradio

James, I have three

Karajan with the Berlin Philharmonic. Typical Karajan, which isn’t bad. From a 6 LP box set ‘Karajan Great Symphonies’ Deutsche Grammophon. I’m sure this was released as a single album at one time.

Mehta with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. London 1979. Mehta is always interesting. Good recording, a punchier, more distinct and pronounced phrasing. I do like Zubin, a lot, but he has his own way of interpreting.

But, if I had to pick one, it would be Evgeny Mravinsky conducting the Leningrad Philharmonic. From a 1974 Deutsche Grammophon box set containing 4,5,&6. Mine an Italian pressing. Overall, this one just seems to get it all correct to my ears.

Sir Adrian Boult conducts Vaughan Williams - Concerto For Two Pianos And Orchestra & Symphony No. 8. The London Philharmonic Orchestra W/Vronsky And Babin. Angel 1969

Charles Dutoit conducts Roussel - Symphonie N˚ 1 (Opus 7 "Le Poème De La Forêt" En Ré Mineur) & Symphonie N˚ 3 (Opus 42 En Sol Mineur). Orchestre National De France. Erato 1987 French release

@spiritofradio

You can usually find that Mravinsky set for a very good price. Well worth it regardless if you have/get others. My set, fortunately, is extremely clean.

Jean Martinon conducts Saint-Saëns - Symphony No. 1 In E Flat, Op. 2 & Symphony No. 2 In A Minor, Op. 55. Orchestra National De La RTF. Angel 1974

Another Joni album procured on vinyl. Arrived in the mail today, really nice clean copy, and will be on the TT very soon....

Joni Mitchell - Don Juan's Reckless Daughter. Asylum 1977 2LP gatefold

This may be my personal favorite Joni album. Jaco is pretty incredible on this set.

Roberto Benzi conducts Saint-Saëns - Symphony No. 3 In C Minor, Op. 78. The Hague Philharmonic. VOX 1960’s per label design

Jean Martinon conducts Saint-Saëns - Symphony In A & Symphony In F "Urbs Roma". Orchestra National de la ORTF. Angel 1975

From one of the two ‘unusual’ Korean box sets I have; ‘The Great Classical Music of the World’ collection. All within the collection are previously individual releases by Decca, Philips, and Deutsche Grammophon. All in near mint condition, pressed well, and sound great.

The selection; Kirill Kondrashin conducts Dvorak Symphony #9 ‘From the New World’. Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
Raymond Leppard Conducts Handel - Concerti Grossi Op. 3 & Overtures. English Chamber Orchestra. 2LP box set. Philips Italian pressing, 1972.

Beautiful recording.
Solti Edition Vol. 6 box set. Sides 5-8, Solti conducts Verdi - Missa Da Requiem, Wiener Philharmoniker with Wiener Staatsopernchor. Recorded 1970. DECCA
Just came in the mail, had to take a work break, clean it, and spin it.

Fairport Convention - Self Titled. A&M reissue, probably mid 70’s per label design. Going to guess 1976 from the liner. Originally 1969.

Sounds fantastic. Really great condition.
In honor of Mozart’s birthday

Szell conducts Mozart - Serenade No. 9 "Posthorn", K. 320 / Exsultate, Jubilate, K. 165. The Cleveland Orchestra with Judith Raskin. CBS Masterworks, released 1985
Welcome @bobandcindy101 & @nsm1979 to ‘our’ little corner of the forum, enjoy

@spiritofradio

Thanks James. I never usually spend this much on used vinyl, but really wanted this in my collection since I’ve gotten back into vinyl. But really, $20 + shipping was actually not a bad deal seeing what these copies are going for. The vinyl is in VG++ condition, and cover is very clean and nice as well.

I’ve been a FC Fan since the early/mid 70’s. This self titled from 1969, with Sandy Denny, was a must have for me. I’m not even sure any of my buddies had this one back in the day. I never did.

SQ is actually very nice. Happy camper with this one.

Jörg Faerber conducts

Saint-Saëns - The Carnival Of The Animals
Chabrier - Trois Valses Romantiques
De Séverac - Le Soldat de Plomb

Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn W/Annie Petit & Marylene Dosse, piano

VOX/ Turnabout 1975

@spiritofradio

I’m not familiar with Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker. I’ll make a note and see what’s on Tidal. Thanks.

As far as Hilary, yea, her solo Bach album is spectacular. In the ‘classical circles’, Hilary is a bit of a polarizing musician. Some feel she is too technically ‘perfect’ and doesn’t bring enough of herself and emotion to the work. I can see that as compared to some, but personally, I think she is fantastic, and don’t quite understand that criticism overall. Then, there are others, as myself, who are mesmerized by her playing. I have many of her works on CD, and enjoy them all.
Maazel conducts Bizet - L'Arlesienne Suites And Jeux D'Enfants. The Cleveland Orchestra. London 1980.
Szell conducts Sibelius Symphony #2. Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. Philips 1965. Netherlands pressing.
Received my 2 Richard and Linda Thompson albums in the mail today, first up...

Richard and Linda Thompson - Pour Down Like Silver. Island 1975

Fantastic condition. Sounds great thus far.
Next up....

Richard and Linda Thompson - Shoot Out The Lights (their last). Hannibal 1982.

Very clean and the SQ on this sounds incredible.
@tomic601

Jim, how is that MoFi Rock of Ages? I have the original, and never play it. Very poor recording and engineering. I try once and a while, and usually never finish.
@tomic601

I enjoy it, has very high sentimental value.. the Sonics are highly variable but work for me...

I get it, I have albums like that, but for whatever reason, expect more from something The Band was involved with, because the performances are there, but it could have been so much better.

Heck,  I enjoy the Basement Tapes, and it’s highly variable sonics, but ya know, that’s part of its charm, expected, and marketed thusly.
Paavo Berglund Conducts Sibelius - Kullervo Symphony, Op. 7, Kuolema, Op. 44 - Scene With Cranes, & Swanwhite - Incidental Music. Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Angel 2LP box 1971

Previn conducts Rachmaninoff Concertos Nos. 1 And 4. Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Leonard Pennario, piano. RCA Red Seal, reissue late 60’s. Originally 1965

The Butterfield Blues Band - Sometimes I Just Feel Like Smilin'. Elektra 1971

Scarlatti ‎– 12 Sinfonie Di Concerto Grosso. I Musici. Philips 2 LP box set. 1981
@spiritofradio

It’s good. I like it. I read where his vocals on Circle were ‘saturated’. Maybe, a little, but not very noticeable to me. A bit more ‘laid back’ studio vibe.

Now, I do have a soft spot for his first, ‘12 String Blues’ (only 1,000 copies, so I consider myself lucky, and purchased it used way back in the day, cheap). The SQ is actually pretty good for being recorded in a coffee shop, but there is an energy Leo has live that is hard to replicate in the studio. That’s part of it, plus he has a great sense of humor, especially with his audience. All that said, I’m happy to have both.

I saw him in a small club in the mid 70’s, and it was incredible. You don’t get a real sense for his 12 string talent until you see him at work. I sat there astounded trying to figure out how he did what he did with only 10 fingers.
Just received in the mail. This was a studio remake of Leo’s first (with a couple more additional songs), mostly live album called ‘12 String Blues’, which I have. I remember a friend had this album years ago, but have never compared it to the earlier/first album I’ve had for years....so...will be interesting, but nice to have in my collection regardless.

Leo Kottke - Circle Round the Sun. Symposium Music 1970

@spiritofradio

Very nice. His description of each song is pure Leo 😁

He did the same on 12 String Blues
Dorati conducts Haydn - Symphony #103 ‘Drum Roll’ & Symphony #104 ‘London’. Philharmonia Hungarica. London reissue 1979, originally  1974.
Vladimir Ashkenazy conducts Strauss - Ein Heldenleben. The Cleveland Orchestra. London 1985.

My second spin of this. Love this performance. Have it on CD, but the vinyl, wonderful.
Zdeněk Košler conducts Martinů - Concertino For Piano Trio And String Orchestra & Sinfonietta Giocosa For Piano And Small Orchestra. The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Supraphon reissue 1985, originally 1978. Czechoslovakia.

Václav Neumann conducts Martinů - Symphony 2 & 6. The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Supraphon 1991 Czechoslovakia

Been meaning to play this set for the last few days, as I have not spun it for a while.

Charles Wadsworth directs The Chamber Music Society Of Lincoln Center. The Classics Record Library 4LP box set, 1975.
Absolutely Steve. I remember when I first got my SOTA set-up. My first reaction was how quiet it was. It was striking to me vs my old table. From there, everything sprang to life. Then the Zephyr.....and again....
