@dayglow Jailbreak CD was on the system (decent actually for a record store- why are they usually so bad? Don’t they realize that they would sell more records if the sound in their stores was better?) at my favorite LRS evening before last (scored the Tucky Buzzard Box Set) so had to play it after we got home. The CD must have been remastered because it didn’t sound like my record at all. Way more midrange forward and far less grunt and growl. Less bite on the lead solos. It was still sweet to hear it in public like that though and sweeter still to crank it up back on the home horns. My copy is from high school days but is in surprisingly great shape.

you know, there are statues of Phil Lynnot in Ireland.  I’ve never been there but my rocker brother has sent me photos.
My friend Greg discovered this when we were in 9th grade together.   We knew so few bands then that played heavy music so finding Budgie was a major event.
Mahler’s 9th
Bernard Haitink
Concertgebouw Orkest. Amsterdam
Gustav Mahler Die 10 Sinfonien

@bkeske

My friends had this back in the day, but I had never purchased it.

It's A Beautiful Day - S/T. Capitol reissue 1970, originally 1969

That guy, David LaFlamme (sp) was quite a good musician I think.   Hope you enjoyed it.  Sort of progressive.  Very period.
@noromance

That's from a record sleeve.

Yep.  It is kinda sweet isn’t it.
Here’s How Records Give You More Of What You Want:

• The Best For Less. Records give you top quality for less money than any other recorded form.

• They Allow Selectivity Of Songs And Tracks.  With records it’s easy to pick out the songs you want to play, or to play again in a particular song or side.  All you have to do is lift the tone arm and place it where you want it.  You can’t do this as easily with anything but a phonograph record.

• They’re The Top Quality In Sound.  Long-playing phonograph records look the same now as when they were introduced in 1948, but there’s a world of difference.  Countless refinements and developments have been made to perfect the long-playing record’s technical excellence and insure the best in sound reproduction and quality available in recorded form.

• They’ll Give You Hours Of Continuous And Uninterrupted Listening Pleasure.  Just stack them up on your automatic changer and relax.

• They’re Attractive, Informative And Easy To Store.  Record albums are never out of place.  Because of the aesthetic appeal of the jacket design, they’re beautifully at home in any living room or library.  They’ve also got important information on the backs-about the artists, about the performances or about the program.  And because they’re flat and not bulky, you can store hundreds in a minimum of space and still see every title.

Ernie Ford & Glen Campbell - Ernie Sings, Glen Picks. I don't remember who recommended this but thanks! I found a copy that was still sealed.

spiritofradio,

How’s the Kooper/Otis lp, James?

@slaw

Really good. As you know I am a big Shuggie Otis fan and his guitar playing on that album is exceptionally good.
@6t5-gto +1 on the Bill Evans.   I just have a standard reissue but it’s one of my favorite records.
This record is sort of a cross between Dixie Dregs and Camel.  Fantastic musicians.
Soft Machine
Bundles
Atlantic 1975 OP

@reubent hey, didn’t go back to check but I may have steered you wrong about which Soft Machine recording features the phenomenal Alan Holdsworth, if so I apologize, it’s this one and it’s right in your wheelhouse bro.   I’m really enjoying it now.  Man o man holdsworth is fast and works in chord structures that don’t feel standard at all.
@Mammothguy54, “Little Wing” just the best isn’t it.
@slaw the second (and last) Dust album, “Hard Attack” with the Barbarians on the cover, is even better - I think.  Do you have it?
I like the guy in Japan who got his own transformer.

Cost of my dedicated 20 amp line was about $350.
@bkeske I’ve received more varying opinions and seemingly subjective advice and direction from electricians in a field that seems like it should follow harder rules and objective principles.  However, I’m told by folks, who are certainly more knowledgeable than I am, that a dedicated line for your rig should stay separated from everything else and that it’s ground should extend separately all the way to its own ground rod.
Only 4 homes on our transformer (we were in the last 60 of 70,000 to be repaired after this winter’s ice storms?) but I think the noise must come from much further afield too.  Ours is the only one of the four to have air conditioning.   All these things factor in I’m discovering with now having much more sensitive and revealing speakers.   Isolation made an obvious improvement.   Shunyata Research Hydra yielded an additional increment (more consistency).  I’m still on the fence about the 20 amp dedicated line, it sounds the same as the regular plug circuit.  Someday I may try reworking the ground on the dedicated line to see if that does anything.
@slaw sorry, I meant the name & catalog number.

re: like / dislike of DMB.  Who cares.  “Why I Am” one of the best songs ever written by anybody.
@slaw

Good morning Steve.  Can you be more specific about the Dave Matthews box?   Probably want to get that.
Right.  Our great American composer.  Head of Juliard, Head of Lincoln Center, Pulitzer winner.
Been curious about this work for I don’t k ow how long.  First time through it just now.  I think it’s great.
@bkeske, streaming another version of the Schuman Violin concerto now.  At first I didn’t think it was available but found it on Spotify.  I really like it.
@bkeske

Michael Tilson Thomas conducts Walter Piston - Symphony No. 2 & William Schuman - Concerto For Violin And Orchestra. Boston Symphony Orchestra. Deutsche Grammophon 1971, German release.

I’ve been curious about that Schuman Concerto.  How is it?
