Signals .... Rush.
Original Canadian release. |
One given for clear vinyl is that it is softer than it's black vinyl cousin. So easier to damage and will wear out faster. Those are facts. Carbon black is the universal Black pigment used to colour nearly all variants of plastics of which PVC is one. Carbon black as well as adding the black colour also adds a lot of strength and resilience to the record .
And we now return you to your regular programming...... |
I thought clear vinyl was supposed to be one of the worst for SQ? Due to no pigment? Or do I have it backasswards?? ππ |
I think I would have had some deep serious meaningful words with " the neighbour"........ |
I know Tomic mentioned it a couple days ago but have not seen Spirit post for quite some time. Anybody heard from him at all? Hopefully just a nice long vacation! |
John Wesley Harding .... Bob Dylan.
Mono reissue |
SlawΒ I totally agree on the record cleaning although I am nowhere near as diligent as yourself. But I hardly see anything on my Onzow or ME lately.
Re. Shunyata.
My SR Blue duplex feeds the Hydra2 via Copperhead cable. This feeds the Hydra8 via Diamondback which feeds all of the main gear. The other Hydra2 receptacle feeds a cheap power strip that feeds my Rega mono table, subs and network switch. May look for a Hydra4 to replace that.
BLACK BLACK background! Everything seems tighter and denser if that makes sense. Powerful?
|
Thanks Tomicππ
Slaw. That might be it but the whole recording just seems to not have the sparkle and edge that the previous records did. No matter.
Moving forward......
Time Exposure ..... Stanley Clarke. |
Slaw Yes the Copperhead is an older design and will likely be replaced as/ when funds allow.
Interesting observation on this last Dylan record from the mono box set. All of the previous records from the set have been very clear and sparkling. This Harding seems recessed, a little dull. Still good just noticeably different to the rest.
|
Wotcha Brian!
Thats pretty amazing ...lol Just plopped this album down on the Avid
My Feet are Smiling .... Leo Kottke, 1973 |
No Rest for the Wicked ... Helix. |
Slaw. Nope We make plastic extrusion machinery. I travel around making the new multi million dollar installations work and fixing up older lines. And a lot of training and r&d for better performance. So a plastics engineer, although there is a lot more to my job than that. I wear many hats! Its all about the dollar....... |
|
Well if clear vinyl is good I wonder why more records are not clear?
I really do not know the composition of record mix vinyl but I work in the plastics engineering field and......
Clear plastic is a lot cheaper than ANY coloured plastic due to no masterbatch being added for colour. White plastic is actually pretty spendy as they use TiO2 for white colour. Black just uses carbon black but still a cost factor. |
I need read up on vinyl mix. If clear records were cheapest to make then they all would be clear..... Lol.
It's not a subject I have had any discussion in previously.
No big deal ,just curious.
I know clear records don't work on old Technics linear tracker TT.ππ |
Now the fireworks have died down a bit here I can play some more black vinyl ( can we even say that now?π).
Waiata ..... Split Enz.
Likely one of New Zealandβs better rock bands. |
Natural colour of vast majority of plastic variants is clear with varying degrees of clarity and transparency.
Yes there should be an industry standard for sure.
Most interesting subject indeed. More research will be done by myself. Definitely not for a music thread, sorry! |
Animals .... Pink Floyd.
Interesting read on the Mint protractor thread Slaw. Not all VPI are equal obviously, poor that so many can be shipped with incorrect s2p. |
Some great music being played here tonight. Best way to celebrate IMHO. Mind nothing for myself to celebrate, I call it " Loser's Day" ππππ¬π§π¬π§π¬π§ |
Blinded by Science .... Thomas Dolby.
12" EP |
Streaming this but man is it good and I never hear a mention of him here??
Coming in Hot .... Coco Montoya. |
The Baker Gurvitz Army S/T. |
No it was onusaudiomart. Got quite a good deal, fair bit less that the one listed on here. Probably take longer for my tonearm to arrive than yours did....lol
Ted Nugent S/T. |
Gold Plated ... Climax Blues Band
|
Sweet Dreams ... Eurythmics. |
The Jazz Singer β¦. Neil Diamond. |
|
|
Voyeur ... Kim Carnes.
What a voice.
Also glad to see there is still a lot of love for " Rough Mix" |
|
Eat to The Beat .... Blondie. |
Donβt hold your breath for messages....lol Actually about lunch it did say I had a message from you but would not let me read it or even see it.
Really pleased for you that it has worked out so well already. I think it will be another huge leap with the Soundsmith. Now you will really hear what your records can sound like.
I ponied up and bought an Origin Live Encounter Mk3c tonearm for the Avid.... we will see. |
Deadlines .... Strawbs.
Possibly their finest album...... |
You Broke my Heart So I Busted Your Jaw ...... Spooky Tooth.
What a fantastic album title....π |
Standing Hampton ... Sammy Hagar |
Had to give up onΒ playing records for a short while as difficult to do right with one hand!
Was washing the dishes, one of the wife's wine glasses broke and sliced my right hand ring finger down to the bone. Arghhhhh..grrrrrr. π°π°π° |
Machine Head .... Deep Purple.
Astounded by my new cart. A nos Astatic mf100. NEVER heard a cart that is as absolutely silent as this one. Just total black background and details leaping out The grooves . Oh and itβs only got four albums on it so far. |
Actually Brian I have bought a LOT of gear from Hifi heaven over the years. Unfortunately that demo for new for a few dollars more is a pretty common move on their part. I deal direct with them off their website,it cuts out a lot of bs. I keep buying as they do have some killer deals and I have never had a bad item received from them. |
Just landed a beautiful score of albums. All German pressings played once only from a guy stationed at NAS Jax here who bought them all while serving in Germany. Played once only because he recorded them all onto reel to reel and then stored them. Apart from no shrink outer these ALL could pass as new! Pretty stoked and will play a few tonight. |
First up though is ..... Raspberries Best , MoFi release. |
Your Saving Grace ... Steve Miller Band.
German pressing. |
Thanks Reubent.
More annoyed than anything, I mean not even my glass!!π π
Just butterfly stitches, very clean cut but deep, lots of blood... Lol. And now throbbing like a throbbing thing. Self medicating with Bailey's.... |
|
Riff Raff .... Dave Edmunds. |
Frijid Pink S/T Original German pressing.
The cover of House of the Rising Sun is just awesome! |
Slaw Had Ecology for sometime but knew it was rough. When I saw a much better copy in Lexington couple weeks ago just had to have it! |
|
Slaw That is what I had assumed, that your curiosity was piqued. I just mentioned the SQ compare as a fyi. |
10-4! My version is red label too.
However too lazy to spin any vinyl tonight. Just keep popping a cassette in the zx7. Tomorrow is another new day! |
Btw I would have to agree on Discogs sellers and their ratings. The worst seem to be the Russian and Slavic country sellers IMHO. My idea of VG plus does NOT include clearly audible scratches!!
I try to avoid buying used online now if I can. |
