@slaw - Headed out of town for work for a couple of weeks. If I forget to reply about the Concrete Blonde and Rare Earth, hit me up again when I'm back posting.
I need to listen to both again to form an opinion. Was really tired the first time though and was half asleep.

@slaw - Hey Steve, I have Red House Painters - "Songs for a Blue Guitar". I agree, its a great album. Listening to it now. "Make Like Paper" is an amazing song. On my "best" list. |
City Boy - "City Boy" - Still trying to decide if I like it. Sounds a lot like Crack the Sky. So, I guess I do like it.... |
@slaw - I listened to Concrete Blonde - "Mexican Moon" and Rare Earth "Ma" via Spotify while I was driving to/from Milwaukee. Here's my take:
Concrete Blonde - "Mexican Moon" - Solid. Instantly recognizable as Johnette Napolitano and Concrete Blonde (this is a good thing!). Great vocals, as always, and musically solid. Sounds very much like "Bloodletting", but not quite as consistently good as that record. It is a double LP, so plenty of songs to choose from. I think its a winner and I think it's really good, just not as good as "Bloodletting".
Rare Earth - "Ma" - Also instantly recognizable as Rare Earth. Sounds similar to all of their records, but I don't like any of the songs. The title track is horrible IMHO. Supposedly about the "person who raised me", but no emotion and not believable. A complete waste of an entire LP side. Side 2 is no better. The last track - "Come with Me" is an incredibly erotic song (lots of moaning), but just seems like filler. I would be embarrassed to play it for anyone in my family.
Hope that helps.

@uberwaltz - Kevin, Glad you are home safely from your trip. "What if" is a nice choice. Hope you make it through to the end. "Night Meets Light" is a great closer. |
Roger Daltrey - "Parting Should be Painless"
Pablo Cruise - "A Place in the Sun"
From my recent 10 cent/LP pick at my LRS. Better than I remember it being back in 1977. Decent Disco Era Soft/Pop Rock. A couple of duds, but overall, not bad.
@slaw - Pull out your MFSL of "A Place in the Sun" and give it a spin. Let me know what you think of it.
@uberwaltz - Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush - "Live" - Awesome! Love it.......
Only have time for one tonight. Leaving for weekend camping trip early tomorrow morning.
The winner is:
Willie Nelson - "Always on my Mind"
@jamesclarke - That's a good one by UFO.
Moody Blues - "In Search of the Lost Chord"
Moody Blues - "Seventh Sojourn" |
Moody Blues - "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour"
Neil Diamond - "The Jazz Singer"
America - "Hideaway"
Still going through my latest stash of 10 cent albums I bought recently at my LRS. Went through the Moody Blues selection over the last couple of days. Not keeping any of them, due to condition, but did find one winner that I'll end up buying a quality copy - "In Search of the Lost Chord".
Regarding this America record, decent quality copy, but the music is pedestrian. It's going in the "to trade" pile.
Jenny and Johnny - "I'm Having Fun Now"
Thanks again @slaw ........ |
Talking Heads - "Fear of Music"
Gary Wright - "The Right Place"
Can't believe this dreck is from "The Dream Weaver". Into the "to trade" pile it goes.
Nicolette Larson - "In the Nick of Time"
Gary Wright - "Touch and Gone"
Also crappy, but somewhat better than the last one. Into the "to trade" pile it goes....
Ramsey Lewis - "Wade in the Water"
@slaw - How do you like the Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush album? I only have the Live album, which I really like....
Linda Ronstadt - "Simple Dreams"
That girl can sing!
Tom Scott - "Blow it Out"
Linda Ronstadt - "Heart Like a Wheel"
"Baby, you're no good.........."
Roger McGuinn - "Back From Rio"
Fantastic album, with one notable exception. The song "Car Phone", from which the album title "Back From Rio" is extracted, is a "period piece" that hasn't held up very well since the release 28 years ago. Otherwise, the remainder of the album is fantastic.
Willie Nelson and Family - "Honeysuckle Rose"
Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group - "Live"
Wow! I'd forgotten how much I like this record...... Great stuff, from "back in the day!"
@uberwaltz @slaw
Slaw has lost more records than I own!
@uberwaltz - Too Funny! I had a copy of "Tomato" in my hands today at my LSR. Even though it was only $2, I passed. Really, who needs multiple copies of "Tomato" anyway! ;~)
Elvis Costello/The Costello Show - "King of America"
Wow! Just Wow!

@slipknot1 - You still out there?

Just kiddin'. That's a great album. "Nuclear Apathy" is a prog masterpiece. Been loving it since 1978. One of my college roommates was from Weirton, WV where Crack the Sky formed. We played all of the Crack the Sky albums ALOT back in the college days. |
