@pops2 + 84 for the Smithereens worked security in the pit at the Moore Theater in Seattle circa. ‘88? My memory gets kinda fuzzy in that chapter of my life. Also was blessed to witness The Cramps from the same vantage point at the Moore. Poison Ivy cemented my lust for redheads and Gretsch guitars (& amps, I have 5 from 1959 to 200? 2 modern executives and 3 playboys). currently spinning….J.J. Cale / Naturally …. “That old dog can sing the blues…” ….Clyde, he don’t move an inch..” thrive |
The Kinks / Greatest Hits (mono) this album (a long lost copy) was in the basement stereo console at my Grandmothers house in Spokane when I was I wee lad . This was alongside The Best of The Animals, Meet The Beatles and Dino, Desi & Billy / I’m a Fool in her console. And there was a grand piano in the same room. The birthplace of my appreciation of music and a Kinks fan ever since.
David Bowie / Pinups

@boxer12 l'll see your whiskey, and raise my own. |
@bslon +1 for The God Fathers. I had that on cassette when it first came out. Back when my "listening room" was my car. Saw them live in support of that record as well. I'm going to discogs now to see what's available. |
@bkeske it just fits right in with our appreciation for analog over digital. And for things that can be serviced and maintained, rather than discarded and replaced. As with my ancient audio system, I'm completely satisfied . Until I try something better, lol. I need to find some good classical vinyl. Been listening to Mahler's #8, S.F. Symphony Michael Tilson Thomas, The Mahler Project on sacd. What little classical music I've collected is all on disc. all ears (just like rest of us) |
@boxer12 just curious, boxer 1200 oil head? I've got an r1100s, and a Guzzi sport 1100i. My other "2 channel" obsessions.

Mathew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs / completely Under The Covers. boxed set, six lp’s of 60’s 70’s & 80’s covers. Great choice of songs, though I prefer the original versions Shared an elevator with ms. Hoffs (and the rest of the Bangles) once in my youth. I was completely gobsmacked. I remember that they all giggled. A lot. |
@slaw yes sir! I’m an unabashed Sadies fanboy. At times, my favorite band. I’ve seen them twice now and can’t recommend them highly enough. They can play anything. There is a great video of them backing Neko Case on the Conan O’Brien show available on YouTube for the uninitiated. @bslon I just got a copy of “Come And Get it - a tribute to Badfinger” on cd (I looked for and couldn’t find vinyl). It a compilation of Badfinger covers. Aimee Mann does a nice job on Baby Blue. thrive |
Looney Tunes , Merry Melodies Another Warner / Reprise / et all compilation “loss leader” Back in ‘71 $2.00 sent to Burbank could procure a three disc boxed compilation of the wide swath of talent currently signed to Warner and their affiliates. These “samplers” would be peppered with a song or two that alone, might entice you to buy the entire set. my introduction to a lot of great music, raised as I was in the suburban wonderland of the puget sound region. Of this 6 side showcase, I’m currently engaged by disc 3. Sides 3 & 4. Kinks apeman to gratefully dead, van Morrison, little Richard, Arlo Guthrie, beach boys, young bloods, etc., it cuts a wide swath. Very nostalgic. |
Another new arrival purchased with confidence based solely on a recommendation on this thread. Rickie Lee Jones / It’s like this great record! Thanks!! Though not a fan of the 45 rpm 12”! 2 or 3 songs a side? Makes me get off my butt too often Just as I’m sinking into an audio induced altered state, usually. Also on tonight’s bill; The Howard Roberts Quartet / H.R. is a Dirty Guitar Player The Howard Roberts Quartet / This is Howard Roberts. Color Him Funky great f’n guitar player, great combo, great albums! I approve, The Smithereens / Especially For You Screaming Trees / Sweet Oblivion again… thanks thrive |
