@uberwaltz  - Thanks Brother. I'll try to remember to check it out sometime.
@spiritofradio  - Thanks for that. I had not heard The Trew's version of "Cinderella Man". Took a listen. Not bad. But it doesn't compare musically with the original IMHO.

Anyway, The Trews were really good when I saw them live. Good enough that I've kept an eye on their touring schedule to try to catch them again.
James McMurtry and the Heartless Bastards - "Live in Aught-Three"

I love this record. If you are a fan of Americana or Alt-Country and/or you love "gee-tar" driven live recordings, check this one out. It has an authenticity you don’t usually get from more mainstream artist.

At a minimum, its worth checking out on Youtube, Spotify or whatever you use to stream/audition new (to you) music. If you love it, buy the double LP. The SQ is very good, the performance is excellent, and it is a good value. Comes with a free digital download coupon too.
Bob Welch - "French Kiss" again...... I forgot how much I liked this record.
Jefferson Airplane - "Surrealistic Pillow" Friday Music 180G Pink Swirl Vinyl
@slaw  - Let me know what you think of "Spirit in the Sky". Norman Greenbaum is always considered as a One Hit Wonder based on the great title track - "Spirit in the Sky". I bought a nice clean copy last year, and I enjoy the whole album quite a bit.
Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio - "Live at KEXP"

Funky Organ Soul Jazz - Good Stuff
@slaw - I finally got around to checking out Sarah Shook & The Disarmers - "Sidelong". I have mixed feelings about it. I think it could have been seriously EXCELLENT. However Sarah seems to be enamored with squeaking/squealing at the end of too many notes and also doing some kind of weird rat-a-tat-tat/warble thing at the end of some words. I don't know why she feels the need to do those things so often. They are distracting IMO and the songs would be much better without those embellishments. Get rid of those distractions and I would give it an A+. However, the vocal distractions drop it down to "novelty act" for me.

Your thoughts?
@slaw - "just give me something to believe in......"

"Something to Believe in" - Parachute

Sorry for the pop song, but the lyrics seemed appropriate :~) And I think its a really good pop song....

Merry Christmas! Headed down your way for the Holidays. Will be in SC, over by Anderson/Greenville.
@slaw - My first listen to Sarah Shook was via headphones. The vocal thing was very annoying. However, when I listened on my main audio system last night, it was much less so. This is a good thing.

Anyway, I really like the songs. As I said, they could have been EXCELLENT, but the vocal thing is a bit of a distraction for me.

I agree with you, seeing her live should confirm if it is genuine. If it is authentic, I love it.......
@slaw - "once again, you failed to miss the point" ;~)

I wasn't comparing the two. I just was saying "give me something to believe in". You know I love authentic music. If Sarah Shook turns out to be the real deal, I'm all in. I just want something, or some musicians, I can believe in and get behind. Not many around, at least in popular music. But there seems to be a pretty good crop in Americana and Alt-Country and Indy. Time will tell.....
@slaw  -
FWIW, mine is the original tri-colored Reprise label.....orange top, thin white stripe, tan bottom.

Mine too. Listening to it now......

@slaw  - I like your mini review of "Spirit in the Sky". You thoughts pretty much mirror mine.
OK boys (and girls if Elizabeth is with us), I got my order from the 60% off sale at Insound just before Christmas, but didn't have a chance to listen before I left town for the Holidays. Well, I'm back and just digging through the pile and starting the pre-play cleaning. Here's what I got:

Kraftwerk - "Autobahn" 2009 Parlophone Records Remaster
Air - "10,000 Hz Legend" Original Album - Double Vinyl 180G
The Orwells - "Disgraceland" Limited Edition Clear Vinyl
Bad Company - "Bad Co." Swan Song R1 8410 180G Vinyl edition
Jenny Lewis - "The Voyager"
Wilco - "Wilco - (The Album)" 180G Deluxe Vinyl set w/bonus CD
Rush - "Test For Echo" Remastered 200G Double LP
Rush - "Roll the Bones" Remastered 200G vinyl
Jethro Tull - "Aqualung" 2011 Steve Wilson Stereo Remix"
Morcheeba - "Big Calm" 180G Vinyl
Emmylou Harris - "Wrecking Ball" Deluxe 3 180G LPs
Emmylou Harris - "Red Dirt Girl"
Dire Straights - "Making Movies"

So, how did I do? ;~)

I'll start playing them tonight, but it will take me a few days to get through them.......

@yc25 - Welcome to the thread! 2 great selections to start with.....

Is that the new Black Friday Record Store Day 2018 version of "Tuesday Night Music Club"? How is it? I was going to buy it, but read a few reviews about poor quality control.

What version of "Wrecking Ball" do you have? I just got the 3 LP Deluxe version, but haven't played it yet.
Kraftwerk - "Autobahn" 2009 Parlophone Records Remaster

Fantastic! When I first heard this in 1974(?) I was like, WTF? was that? I didn't "get it" at all. 44 years later, and I think it's a masterpiece. Go figure......
Bad Company - "Bad Co."

A pretty darn good "debut" record, although all of the members were from already popular bands...
@yc25 - I think I'll pick up the Sheryl Crow album. I have it on CD and I love it. I know the "hits" got a lot of airplay back in the day. But I think the deeper cuts like "No One Said It Would Be Easy" and "I Shall Believe" are the true gems on that album.
Rush - "Roll the Bones" Remastered 200G vinyl

I like this album. Not Rush's best, but a good album none the less. Lost in the overall Rush discography, but better than most of the albums that came after it IMHO.
@slaw - I have that version of the Dave Mason record. Love it, musically and for the sound quality and packaging. A really good one........
RUSH - "Test for Echo"

This is my first ever listen to this record. I'll have to listen a few more times to see if I warm up to it. I'm a big fan of RUSH, but I have not enjoyed any of the albums after "Roll the Bones"
Emmylou Harris - "Wrecking Ball" Deluxe 3 LP Set

Just got it from Insound during their most recent 60% off sale. Only through side-A, but so far it's pretty fantastic. I'm very familiar with the album, had it on CD since it was released.
@gpgr4blu - Yep, I need to pick up "Teatro". I'm a big fan of Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris, but I don't have Teatro for some reason. I'll try to remedy that....
Morcheeba - "Big Calm" Love this album when I'm in a chill mood. Check it out if you unfamiliar. A little electronic, a little chill, a little trip hop, a little rock, a little downtempo and a really good female vocal.

Happy New Year 2019 to everyone! Here's my first LP of the year. I had to choose carefully, and this is what came to mind. Based on my affection for Americana and my love for real, authentic music, I chose this one:

Jumbo Mathis and the Tri-State Coalition - "Dark Night of the Soul"

Happy New Year! I hope you (and I) get to listen to more great vinyl in 2019.
@slaw - You were right. The SQ on "Red Dirt Girl" is disappointing. Kind of a muddy, mushy sound. Sounds like they tried to make it sound like the Daniel Lanois produced, atmospheric sound, of "Wrecking Ball", but they just "fuzz'd" everything.
Jimbo Mathus - "Blue Healer"

Not my favorite Jimbo Mathus record. Just listening to it again to see if it might start growing on me a bit. It really hasn't too much....

Anyone interested in some Deep Mississippi tinged Americana, Check out "Dark Night of the Soul" and "White Buffalo" from Jimbo Mathus and the Tri-State Coalition. Both excellent albums IMHO. Well, if you like that sort of thing......
@6t5-gto - My two co-favorite Jimbo Mathus records are "White Buffalo" and "Dark Night of the Soul". Neither are perfect, but there are enough good songs on each that I could recommend them.
