The Best Of The Strawbs.

Trying out a new to me cart, Scheu Analog MC SL.

Sounding good so far!
Tomic
Now I have a dedicated mono rig trying to build up a mono collection to justify it...lol
Not that I need much justification to spend money of course.....
The Magicians Birthday ... Uriah Heep.

On new to me Kenwood Kp07 with ADC xlm mk2 .... For now......

It's in my second system and definitely sounds very recessed compared to when I tested it in the main system.
Difference between a $1600 phono stage and a $60 one! Lmao!
Greg
As you see you are not alone in still trying to optimise their combos ... Lol
I am at the stage now where I never plan my vinyl, just close my eyes and pull one out and spin her up.

Now I do have four tables so that causes me more grief on choice and combos than the vinyl.

Took the ZYX off my Nottingham last night and mounted a Scheu Analog MC SL in its place. A much better match for the Nottingham imho .  The ZYX was really too light at just 4.2gm. The Scheu comes in at 8.8gm, which has my counterweight much further the end now. Much more body and dynamics.

This morning I mounted the ZYX on my Denon with the Black Widow arm which is ultralight and thought they would be a good match.

Still tweaking and listening to see if I prefer to the vintage mm carts have been using like Sonus and ADC.

Spinning now;

Songs from the Big Chair ... Tears for Fears.
Highly recommended coffee table book...
Magnetic Storm by Roger Dean first print in hardback.
Or Dragons Dreams if you are feeling rich.........
In other threads playing them thar new fangled  cassette tapes and heaven forbid shiny silver disc thingies.

😁😁
Any Roger Dean album cover was usually spectacular.
Yes, Genesis, Uriah Heep, Asia, Magnum etc.

Hard to pick a favorite but possibly Osibisa or Tales from Topographic Oceans.
Or Octopus by Gentle Giant, Squawk by Budgie.
Dang so many.....
Thx Slaw ... I think ... Lol.

Actually there were 2 I had been looking for a while now and huge bonus at just $8 each!
Just what I need Reubent! Only have about 100 lps left from my $1 daze to work through....... Lmao

Saying that here up next is a birthday present from my daughter who goes back to Anchorage University tomorrow morning ... 😞😞

Apocalyptica Plays Metallica with Four Cellos Live.
180g remastered.

You really have to hear this to believe the sounds they can make with just four cellos!
Allies ... Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Couple more of my $1 buys that are truly excellent condition and SQ.

Overall out of the roughly 100 of the 200 I bought that I have played so far there has been only about 3 that I would consider possibly too far gone to be worthwhile.
Always great to rescue and resurrect old vinyl... And does not hurt to save a few dollars to boot!
When do you sleep Slaw? Lol

Rocking Into The Night ... 38 Special.

@reubent
I have that Rare Earth " backpack" edition too and it's pretty slick SQ.
Gto
10k albums!
Would take a lifetime to clean and work through.

I am getting some more tomorrow saying that, he rang and asked me to come and take some more off his hands. About another 200 I think so be set for this year.
Plus the vinyl I buy anyway of course ... Lol.

To the music.

Cyan ... Three Dog Night.

Few cracks and pops on this one but still hard to complain.
Back to travelling for next couple weeks.
Guess have to pay for all the new records somehow......
Atlanta onto Columbus.
Today is just travel though and have scoped out 2 or 3 record shops in Columbus to visit so.....😇😇
Out of the Blue ... Electric Light Orchestra.

This is one of my $1 buys that was covered in fingerprints that defied cleaning.
Until I read the thread on using glass cleaner. Yup, removed every fingerprint in seconds!
I'm a believer....
@millercarbon
I have a used copy of Aja, just an original pressing and the SQ is sublime, right up there with some of the best I have, cost was $1.....

Just swapped out my Achromat for a cork mat and that lasted less than 1 minute!

Sucked the bass and life right out of the music, really pushed the highs up and just sounded disjointed.

Not an experience I will be repeating!
Gto

I must be about the only person on the whole gon who is left unimpressed by amused to death.
Seriously it just comes over as disjointed to my ears.

Give me hitchhiking or radio kaos any day......
Brian.
My guess is that Zephyr will not be there this time tomorrow.......
🤔🤔
Keeping with Floyd.

Thx to Slaw for this recommendation.

The Wall remastered 180g.

Truly a sonic masterpiece. Very well balanced with no tip towards any region, just supremely neutral allowing the music to flow.

As an aside I caught the Wall live in London on the original Floyd tour for it.
Reubent
I have that Marc Cohn album on cassette tape.
Forgot what it sounds like so will drag it out and give it a spin later.
Thanks for the reminder!
Just trying out another TT.
Dual 1019 with Shure 91E cart but unfortunately a generic replacement stylus.

Even so it sounds pretty darn good, good enough to warrant purchase of a Jico SAS stylus.

Testing with pristine copy of Aja ... Steely Dan
Just got my refund for Elton John which had been rescheduled for " sometime 2021".
Err no thanks, cash please.
Tomic
Unfortunately I only flew into Columbus.
I am staying in Troy and working in backwater podunk Piqua where the largest restaurant in town is Lees Famous Chicken!
Have asked many times but still have no clue why Lee is famous....

And yes while in the shower I did think could send usps media even with all that weight probably only $25 or so.
@Slaw
On content obviously it is sky high and if you are happy with the vinyl SQ it works for me!

Next up

Tap Root Manuscript ... Neil Diamond

@reubent
Cleaned this one up as we talked about few days ago and it really is very good indeed!
Damn Yankees ...... S/T.

Not bad but a perfect example of where the sum of the parts did not exceed the parts or even close .
Slaw
Let me know what you think of Full Circle.
Are all your Trigger Hippy records flat?
Anybody heard Sonia Dada?
I found it on the reverse side of Marc Cohn tape which means I must have recorded it mid 90,s.
I honestly have no memory of it... Lol.

However it is pretty darn awesome IMHO.
Deceptive Bends .... 10cc.

Original Mercury issue in excellent shape, great SQ on this one.

Really sounding good on this old Dual table.
Slaw.
So it seems the st pressings were all affected possibly?
That was what I was curious on and if the follow up was better before I bought it.
Thank you sir!
Will have to give that MG album a whirl on Tidal first Slaw.

For now;

Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Live with Four Cellos.

Seriously you have to hear what noise 4 guys with cellos can make! Only other instrument is occasional drums. You have bass cello, rhythm cello and screaming lead cello!

It's out there imho.
