Greg I would have to guess that was the USA equivalent. Totp was once a week, the next evening after the weekly singles charts were announced so was up to date on showcasing the top hits. Prior to Hawkwind think terrible corny pop acts like The Sweet, Slade, Gary Glitter, Barry Blue etc. God, 70,s Brit pop was awful now I think about it😂😂 |
Greg. Two blistering classic heavy rock cuts in a row. Nice stuff. I remember when Hawkwind first hit it big in the UK with Silver Machine and they were on TV on a show called top of the pops. Nobody knew what to make of Dave Brock , Rob Calvert and Lemmy and crew! Never been anything quite like them on the show. |
I know I did not need to do this to know this but still a valid conclusion. Have been playing cd and sacd all afternoon and evening. Good but lacking the dynamics and life and soul that my garrard gives me in spades. Even my mofi sacd of heartbeat city pales besides my original vinyl copy. Time to spin some records..... |
If I was not travelling by plane it would have been a LOT more. I visited an antique mall, The Heart of Ohio on way to the hotel. One of the stalls in there had a box of 62 rock albums for just $99. And there was some really good albums in the box including Led Zep, Deep Purple etc and all looked to be in good shape. Maybe I need go back and then fedex them home..... |
Drrsutliff. now I have regained some composure you are likely correct. I believe it is the cable that came with the 401 as once that was on the Rega is when the hum was very noticeable. Even back on the 401 it is louder than I would really like. The slightly to short cable that came with the Rega is very quiet back on the Rega. Solution? Open up the 5 pin din end of the offending tonearm cable? |
Spirit. Thank you most kindly for the nice words, much appreciated my friend. As far as Coheed goes, I caught them live maybe 6 years ago at a Rockville here in Jacksonville... you know when we had live music ... lol. They were way down the billing so out early afternoon, not much of a crowd yet but they were awesome indeed. However this was way after the Second Turbine album which I had never head before until today. One of those bands that have changed somewhat some aspects better and some worse... imho |
Very wound up right now, need to take some deep breaths. Fired up the Rega mono rig and very loud background hum had appeared. Tried all sorts of grounding tricks but to no avail. Then I figured the only thing I had done since last played was swap the tonearm cables over between the two tt. Should NOT have made any difference but swapped them back and peace was restored. WTF!!!!! |
Good to be here Slaw! And thank you. I am working my way through cleaning and then playing 217 lps I bought for $1 each from my LRS. He had thrown a lot of good stuff into clearance boxes just to reduce inventory. There are some bad ones of course but so far it is working out to be a great buy. Gave him $200 cash for the lot so a little less than $1 each. |
06-01-2020 1:57pmThere you go SlawI think HP of all people nailed it when he noted that digital reproduction effects a high pass filter albeit at a very low frequency which seems to rob the music of its natural ambiance. The bass drops off a cliff, metaphorically speaking. You don’t hear it as lack of bass per se.@lewm In a nutshell, vinyl has more bandwidth than Redbook. On the bottom end its only limited by the mechanical resonance of the playback. On the top end it can go out well past 50KHz, although my cutter is bandwidth-limited at about 42KHz. Straight from Ralph. |
@Reubent My favorite portion of this forum are all the music threads. There is a general air of camaraderie here that is sadly lacking on some of the other threads where instead it seems to be more who can stab who in the back the deepest and the hardest! Not all obviously but it sure is not fun most of the time. Plus there is always such great music to discover and rediscover. It’s a pleasure to be here. Btw I have worked in the Cincy area a LOT over the last 20 year’s. We even went for vacation a couple of times when Kings Island was at its height just to ride The Beast and The Son of The Beast. Sad how King’s Island has turned out now. |
@bdp24 . Very interesting and yes I do remember some b sides were one offs until an enterprising record label would release them as a collection on CD! I did have quite a few singles when younger but I know I offloaded all of them to a local swap shop( English pawn shop). Next time in my LRS I might just have a rummage through see if anything strikes me. |
Aj523. Welcome to the wonderful world of vinyl, hope you visit often. But as to your specific request not really my area, sure we have some classical experts here though. I would also try a search of the threads as I am sure I remember a thread along those lines fairly recently in fact. This thread may be of interest. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/classical-music-for-aficionados |
@slaw good to hear from you, hoped I had not upset you. i hear you on time! However last week I was off due to no work and this week I took vacation and indeed flying to New Mexico tomorrow morning so will be radio silence from me on this thread until Tuesday next week of course I will be streaming a Tidal on the plane and the hotel in the evening through my trusty phone and Klipsch earbuds. |
