@slaw - Somehow I missed
Son Volt "Okemah and the Melody of Riot" when it can out. I took a quick listen on YouTube and liked what I heard. They have it in stock at my LRS, so I think I'll pick it up next time in in the shop.
I'm curious if you bought the most recent Son Volt Record - "Notes of Blue" and what you think about it. I bought it when it first came out and I like it quite a bit. |
Bruce Hornsby and the Range - "The Way It Is" |
Timbuk3 - "Greetings From" |
I love Fridays (and Tuesdays). Those are used bin restocking days at my Local Record Store. Walked out this morning with these beauties from the today's bin:
Harry Nilsson - "Nilsson Schmilsson" - original 1971 release Chet Baker - "Quartet" w/Russ Freeman - 2016 Vinyl Lover remaster Ass Ponys - "electric rock music" - Score! Never seen one of these before. New, unopened in the used bin. The LRS owner says the band members are regulars and they sometimes bring in excess stock and trade on other stuff. Was luck to find this one.
And, from new stock - The Record Store Day 2018 Release of Son Volt - "Okemah and the Melody of Riot" (Thanks to the recommendation from @slaw )
Once through the spin clean and I'll be listening to new records this evening....
|
@slaw - Nope, never heard "Eden Alley". I'll check it out.
Listening to "Nilsson Schmilsson" now. I haven't heard it in years. It's pretty good stuff. Side 2 is near epic with 3 of his biggest hits on that one record side.
|
Ass Ponys - "electric rock music" - Still one of my favorite records by a local band from here in Cincinnati. |
Son Volt - "Okemah and the Melody of Riot" - Holy Cow! I missed this when it was originally releases. Thank goodness it was just released on vinyl for RSD2018. Picked it up based on @slaw recommendation and it is KILLER. Wow!
|
@bdp24 - Nice find. Does it sound good? I think the original release sounds fantastic. |

Jeol,
Glad you enjoyed "Oh, Yeah?" I've really enjoyed it. Only made better by the fact that my copy is NM in shrink and it cost my 12.5 cents when I bought a bunch of records from a LRS for 8/$1 on closeout.
Good Luck, and Enjoy the US Cleaner. |
@slaw - I'm with you. Seems you and I are nearly alone, trying to keep this thread alive. And its odd, considering how popular vinyl has gotten.
So, where did everybody go? Over to the "what's playing on your system today?" thread? |
OK boys, I played Jethro Tull - "Stormwatch" and I'm still not sure. Not a great album, but a couple of good moments, especially "Dun Ringill". It stays....... for now. |
@slaw - Only worried that I may not have cut deep enough. I listened to everything I thought was "questionable" before tossing into the cull bin. I did not view "Stormwatch" as questionable at the time. @tomic601 comment does make me wonder if I should have played it before making a decision. I'll know in about half an hour, or so...... |
@tomic601 - Say What? I just looked, and "Stormwatch" survived my ruthless culling activity. However, I don't remember actually listening to it to make that determination. So, on the TT it will go, after I complete my current selection......
|
YES - "Drama" - Kevin Gray remaster. I must say, it's pretty darn good..... |
@slaw - The only ones doing what? Listening to Michael Kiwanuka? I would hope not. "Love and Hate" is an awesome record.
|
Michael Kiwanuka - "Love and Hate"
|
@umrkretread - Good Morning! And welcome to the "What's on your turntable tonight?" thread. Keep 'em coming........ |
Rare Earth - "Live" The original one in the classic backpack album cover. One of the coolest record covers - ever! And a great record.........
|
Gare Du Nord - "Rendezvous 8:02"
|
@tomic601 - I'm in perpetual culling mode now. I have space for about 6-8 additional records in my rack, and once it overflows again, a-culling I will go. Based on my listening last night, "Stormwatch" will go onto my "potential cull" list. How long it will stay there, who knows? Depends on what comes into the house.
