I tried a pile of 6AQ8's in my EAR 890 amp, and I liked the Amperex best, but I have at least 6 different varieties. I know longer own the amp, so I really should sell off some tubes..... (Got a bunch of 12AX7's, Ei KT-90's, and others. I should get organized and sell some this winter.)
