I thought I was the only Budgie fan this side of the pond. Been listening to them since the early '70s. Had an older sister who was diggin' them as a teenager way back in the day. Got me started on the hand-me-downs... I've got 3 or 4 of their CDs or LPs.

My wife bought me the double CD of Crack the Sky (ST) and White Music for Christmas. When I opened it I was surprised to see that it was signed by John Palumbo. Cool stuff........ |

It makes me happy that there is someone out there in AudiogoN land that is familiar with this album. Ass Ponys were a local band here in Cincinnati and I used to go out often to hear them play in local bars. The band's leader - Chuck Cleaver is now co-leader of the band - Wussy. Also great.
"Earth to Grandma" is classic, but my favorites for the album are "Wall Eyed Girl", "Banlon Shirt" and "Gypped". I agree, the whole record is brilliant. |
the great thing about "electric rock music: is the genuine affection the singer has for all the freaks and losers he sings about--they all keep their dignity. plus the melodies are always there.
@loomisjohnson , Could not agree more. Ass Ponys were special. I agree that Wussy is not a modern day Ass Ponys. I like them, but it's not the same. However, they are good live and I'm going to see them again on April 23. I'll check out your recommendation too..... |

@nutty - I picked up Tumbleweed Connection on vinyl when I went to Everybody's Records today. Got a bunch of other stuff while I was at it. Hopefully there will be some gems in the mix and I can report back on them..... |
@ghosthouse - Well, I also picked up Madman Across the Water and Captain Fantastic while I was record shopping today. All 3 of the EJ LP's I picked up today appear to be original releases, or at least early vinyl, and all are in visually very good condition. I'll know tonight...... |
@ghosthouse - I owned some of the EJ albums on 8-Track (sorry, analog again!) back in the day and they were hugely popular, so I'm familiar with all of them. Haven't heard any of them in a while. Just saw Nutty's post about Tumbleweed Connection and picked them up during my weekly record store jaunt. Getting ready to put them on now for a first listen in this century.

In my CD Player tonight - The still incredible "Frampton Comes Alive" 1998 Doug Sax Digital Remaster.
I know this record was mega-popular and was overplayed back in the day, and still to this day. But it was, and is, an influential recording that deserves the acclaim it received.
For me, the slow tracks on the record are the stars - "All I Wanna Be (Is by Your Side)", "Winds of Change" and "Lines on my Face" are the big winners for me. |
@ghosthouse - I have no complaints about the 1998 re-master. Sounds pretty good to me.

@nutty - I listened to "Tumbleweed Connection" again tonight. Just awesome..... Thanks again for the bringing it to our attention again. I hadn't heard it in many years and I forgot how great it was.

@astewart8944 - Glad you enjoyed the show and good to know we're in for a good experience. I've been keeping an eye on the setlists from the tour. Seems like it's going to be great one. Our seats aren't great either, but I know U2 has perfected the stadiums show, so I'm not worried about it. One Republic is opening the Louisville show. I'm not a big fan, but my 13 year old son likes them, so I'm happy with the choice of opening act. I'm actually kinda looking forward to seeing a more modern, younger, pop band, just to see how they do it..... |
