What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report

I enjoy vinyl and digital (lately, with recent changes, vinyl actually sounds better than digital to me), BUT given what seems an overall preference for analog/vinyl on A'gon, I'm curious what the non-vinyl "1/2" is listening to. I tried to see if this was a previously posted question. Did not seem so.

This evening for me, it's Genesis (definitive edition remaster) "A Trick of the Tail".

The Ahmad Jamal Trio - The Awakening

The music and performances on this (almost) 50 year old recording still seem very fresh (more so than the artwork ;-)

https://www.discogs.com/The-Ahmad-Jamal-Trio-The-Awakening/release/1038746

No @jafant
Don’t have that one. The Awakening caught my ear a while back but, otherwise, not all that deep into Ahmad Jamal. Will see if I can find Live at the Pershing on Tidal or Spotify and give a listen. Thanks for the suggestion.

Edit...found it on Tidal and realize I’d listened to some of this when I first "discovered" Ahmad (not all that long ago, for me).  It is indeed a good "document" displaying the excellent musicianship of a young AJ. Thanks again.
Okay! @jafant
Found Blue Moon on Spotify, (but not on Tidal). Isn’t a problem though, the recording quality is very, very good with lots of liveliness even listening via Spotify. Was hooked by Autumn Rain from the get go; Blue Moon which I read is classic Rodger’s & Hart’s from 1934! isn’t a way too familiar luke-warm chestnut...great arrangement and performance. All About Jazz is complimentary about the contribution of percussionist Manola Bedrena. For me,  however, I’m finding him kinda repetitive (e.g., "Invitation") and, elsewhere, busy and intrusive.  But what do I know.

AAJ, in the Blue Moon review mentions as comparably excellent an earlier recording: A Quiet Time. Will have to give this a listen too. Must still look up your Saturday Morning recommendation.
Michael Brecker - Now You See It...(Now You Don't)

First released in 1990, some of the electronic "voicings" sound a little bit dated but the compositions and performances are strong and carry the listener past any related concerns.  NYSI bears repeated listening.

Track 4 "Never Alone"

@cd318
"When I say we'll be cool I think that you know what I mean....".

Well, maybe come October...very, very warm here in Central PA too.

Could use more songs like Mr. Leitch used to write.

The Orange Peels - Sun Moon

Just crank it up and hit repeat.  Outro on the last track alone is worth the price of admission.

(and BTW, not to be unfriendly, but if you don't see it that way, don't feel obligated to share!  ;-)
Last night...
The Jazz Pistols, "Superstring"

First (title) track here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2xe6Fi4-eo

Great music, musicianship and sonics in this recording from the German fusion trio.
Last evening, Danny Norbury's "Light In August".

So far, this early evening...
Bill Bruford's Earthworks (live), "Random Acts of Happiness".
A spectacular live recording.  Raises the question why some studio recording sessions can't get it right.

Bill Connors, "Return"
The O-riginal guitarist in Return to Forever.
(Al Di Meo-who??)

For a more contemporary take (2001 vs 1968) on that same "summer" vibe, check out

Long Distance by Ivy.

Track 3, Edge of the Ocean, here:

I'm not going to argue the arrangements are as artful as on Windy, however ;-)

Early evening...
Joe Satriani's Crystal Planet

Late evening...
Lars Danielsson - Liberetto III

Magnus Ostrom - Parachute

Very good, cd318. Glad you enjoyed it and heard (felt?) the connection between Astrud Gilberto and Dominique Durand (a Parisian living in NYC at the time).

Personally, more than a dreamy impression, "On Days Like These" (its arrangement) struck me as quintessential '60s in a pre-Beatles way.  Really took me back.  I would not have guessed it was a Quincy Jones composition.

Joe Satriani - Black Swans & Wormhole Wizards

(and well HE might, given the sorry lot on this planet)
...and much later -

The Spinning Jennies "Full Volume/The Best of..."

Track 5 from this compilation (love the drumming): Least of All

Glad you checked it out, Nutty. Good sonics on that one though the bass can be a challenge to manage. Lots of it. I turned the subs off to listen again today. Last night was headphones for me too. The song writing starts strong but seems to lose its way in the latter third of the recording.

I’ve sampled some Chris Stapleton. Another bud had recommended him too. Just not where my head is at lately but that’s nothing against him.
All over the the instrumental landscape this late afternoon.

Andy Summers - Earth + Sky

Lars Danielsson - Liberetto

Frank Zappa - Waka Jawaka (Big Swifty & WJ, exclusively)
Spent time earlier today renewing acquaintance with Steve Smith & Vital Information’s, "Come On In".

Reading up on his discography, found quite a few albums available on Tidal. Greatly enjoyed VITALIVE (live recording from 1989) and, now, Heart of the City (released Sept 2017).

From VITALIVE, Track 2 "Looks Bad, Feels Good"

Early evening.  Just finished "Blues for Tony" - A. Paqua, A. Holdsworth, J. Haslip, C. Wackerman.  Great live recording.

Now, Yellowjackets, "A Rise in the Road".

Several hours later, Robin [Mr. Anti-shredder, Less-Is-More, Guitarist with the BIG tone] Trower, "Where You Are Going To".

Welcome khang.

Tonight, Fidelity is the Enemy, an under the radar and under celebrated 2001 album by Jim Boggia. The way he ends this track is sheer genius...

Ah...the deranged in the house.  Greetings brother.  Get to any Trower last night? Might have to put some RT on later myself.

Right now though, Yellowjackets' "Cohearance".

lulz ??
@mental
Please translate.

"she won" must be the universal outcome for those situations.

Time and Emotion is a good recording (if you've not listened to it yet).

Thanks, M. After I posted asking you, I thought to look it up. Google had it as a variant of LOL.  The whole iPhone/texting thing seems to be generating a new language. I don’t text so....we be unhip and ignorant. Can’t say it bothers me much.

Later.

Right now, Bill Bruford, Ralph Towner, Eddie Gomez - If Summer Had Its Ghosts.
Huh...good luck on the relocation, M.  Got to keep the peace.  "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."  Truer words...

If you listen to all 500 of your CDs (or 470 remaining) start to finish, figure 50 minutes per CD and 8 hours a day listening, it's gonna take you almost 50 days to get through the lot of them.  Yeah, I guess it would be going slow.

Haven't listened to any Santana in years, myself.  First album, Abraxas and Caravanserai are all I know.
Steps Ahead - S/T

1983 release by an interesting group you mightn’t have heard of. Heavy weight talent especially in the early lineup: Mike Manieri (Vibes), Michael Brecker (Sax), Eliane Elias (Piano), Eddie Gomez (Bass), Peter Erskine (Drums).

Track 5 (Skyward Bound)

The Bad Plus - These Are the Vistas

Track 3, Smells Like Teen Spirit
There are covers and then there are COVERS.  Plus the sonics on this whole recording are pretty good.

Last evening from Tidal...

Summer McKane's "Night Blooming Cereus"

GREAT sonics. The music is a bit inconsistent. Some of it "nice" but boring. Other bits are a lot more engaging.  Worth checking out, especially for any fans of "post-rock" (e.g., Lanterna).
