What's in your CDP tonight? the minority report

I enjoy vinyl and digital (lately, with recent changes, vinyl actually sounds better than digital to me), BUT given what seems an overall preference for analog/vinyl on A'gon, I'm curious what the non-vinyl "1/2" is listening to. I tried to see if this was a previously posted question. Did not seem so.

This evening for me, it's Genesis (definitive edition remaster) "A Trick of the Tail".

Excellent @curiousjim

Always nice to "meet" another Auger fan.   Glad you enjoyed Live in LA.  In addition to Auger's playing, the rhythm section is excellent...that's his kid on drums, by the way.  Overall SQ is pretty good too!

Hello @curiousjim

I have not seen that video. Going by memory (increasingly risky these days) I think Bumpin’ is a also a track on the Live in LA album, though I’m guessing the video is a much younger Brian. Will check it out. THANKS.

I knew both his kids were performing with him...son & daughter.  Hadn't seen any videos of either though.

(haha - just saw the date in the video title. 1975)

@curiousjim A tough ask to recommend just a few.  Wander through the contributions here.  You will probably find a couple of things;  e.g.,

Glenn Hughes - The Way It Is

Joe Satriani - Crystal Planet

John Hiatt - The Tiki Bar is Open

Not saying these are audiophile approved but some great music anyway.

Thanks for the tip on the VBH vibration dampers, @tweak1

Though possibly a topic better suited for posting elsewhere, e.g., Tech Talk or Misc Audio.

Music-wise, today:

Fleetwood Mac’s Penguin

Here’s track 6

Revelation

with an excellent bass solo from John McViie.

Bill Connors - Step It.  The original Return to Forever guitarist.  This a solo release  after he left Chick's outfit.  Great sound quality and outstanding musicianship from all onboard including Dave Weckl (drums) and Tom Kennedy (bass).

Find it if you can, in the meantime check it out on YouTube.

Here's track 7: Titan

Bill Connors - Step It

Only became aware of this 1984 recording recently but the 1994 Evidence CD has been frequently listened to since.   Interesting chords and time signature changes not to mention melodic, virtuoso soloing.  Very good sound quality with outstanding drumming and bass work by Dave Weckl and Tom Kennedy.  Steve Kahn co-produced and contributes guitar on Track 6 (Twinkle).  The last 3 tracks, 6, 7 & 9 (Flickering Lights) are favorites.

@mksun

Very nice to hear from another Van Morrison fan and of those albums specifically.

I have a lot of VM music but do find myself coming back frequently to those 3... especially No Guru.

@mksun

Hello again.  Glad to continue a conversation about Van Morrison's music.  While I know Astral Weeks is well-regarded, that one never really caught on for me.  Always found it a challenging "listen" that I didn't connect with.  St. Dominic's Preview a little bit more accessible (Almost Independence Day) than Weeks but not a favorite.  It has been quite a while since I tried either so I should go back and revisit...see if my hearing has improved ;-)

Another that does bear mentioning for frequent listening: Back on Top (and in particular, The Philosopher's Stone).

Haven't kept up with most of Van's output in the 2000s.  Last things I bought some time ago were Keep it Simple (like that one a lot) and Born to Sing: No Plan B (don't think I've listened to all of it yet).

That's it for now though there are plenty other gems to discuss.

Best regards,

Ciao

Against the Safeway supermarket in the rain
And everybody feels so determined
Not to feel anyone else's pain
No one makin' no commitments
To anybody but themselves...."
