What is "west coast sound"

I recently read a review of a CDP from HiFi Choice which characterized that the player has a "west coast sound".

Anyone knows what it is.

As opposed to heavier, powerful, etc. (warmer, laid back?) Funny, it's also the first time I've heard of this term.
