What is new with the Memory Player?

I have read that this player is the next great source at the online mags. Have others heard this player and is it currently being sold? What are the impressions of those who have heard this machine? Any information would be nice since I have read almost nothing other than what is contained in the magazines. Bob

"I'm very interested in hearing impressions of the Memory Player too, as long as this thread doesn't dissapear like the last one did." - Rx8man

Wonder who had the other thread removed.
Raquel-

"shilling" LOL!!!!

How can I shill for a product I don't sell, don't own
and don't plan to own?

The only "shilling"(Memory Player,Shakti,Acoustic System Resonators) going on in your thread and this one is
being done by Audiooracle aka the Audio Doctor.

Have a nice day.
"In comparisons of the original CD recording vs. those uploaded and played back through the HD of the MP this was also evident."

The MP does not playback from the HD. The HD is only used for storage. Files are played back via the solid state flash memory.
Bigamp- MP owners must deal with a PC, since a laptop is used as a remote. It should be very easy for them to rip CDs onto the laptop and playback via RAMdisk or flash memory with a USB or Firewire digital interface and compare it to the MP.
"Also Mr. Perry and his staff have tested EAC copies vs the Memory Player and again there is no contest."

Audiooracle-

What PC playback set-up(s) did they use?
Now all we need is for someone to tell us how MP transport compares head-to-head against a PC-based transport, and for
Rx8man, how the MP w/32 bit DAC compares to the APL NWO 2.5T.
"FYI, the MP has been compared to many other PC based drives modified by a very brilliant designer here in NYC. In each case, none compared to the MPs sonic capabilities. None! What type of PCs these were are still unclear but I'll say most were hand made by a guy who "promised" to match the MPs internal part for part...down to the operating system. These players had high hopes of entering the market until they were compared to the MP."

CP-

Mahalo for responding, but this doesn't tell us anything about the software or hardware used.

Since you already have a laptop in your listening room serving as a remote for the MP, I suggest you contact Steve at http://www.empiricalaudio.com and ask to try one of his PC to DAC interfaces.

Or you can contact Anthony at Aberdeen Components(mauimods.com) and ask to try one of his modified SD Transporters or his modified Northstar transport. FYI- He feels these units easily outperform your Wadia 270SE. ;-)
"The fact that you can take apart a $32,000.00 pair of Avalon Edilon Diamonds and build your own knock off version for the sum of its parts which would probably cost you less than $6,000.00!"

Audio Doctor-

The tweeters cost $2600. each. Pretty tuff to build knock offs for less $6K.

If anyone would like to try ripper software that rips to RAM like the MP, download audiograbber, it's free. Mahalo to
Mr.Porzilli for the tip.
"Tokyo, Japan, June 27, 2007—Asahi Kasei EMD today launched the AK4397, a 32-bit 192kHz high performance audio DAC for professional audio equipment and top-of-the-line consumer DVD/DVD-Audio/SACD player, AV receiver and digital mixer product applications. The AK4397 is the newest line-up of our Audio4proTM product range.

The new 32-bit digital operation block provides a fully 32-bit processing for the audio interface, perfect linear phase digital filter and delta-sigma modulator. It allows high accuracy D/A conversion of 32-bit audio signal generated by high accuracy processor such as 32-bit DSP.

Innovative design techniques include a symmetrical layout for the left-right switched capacitor DAC and fully separated analog power routing to avoid any degradation by cross talk and common impedance. Additionally, own unique switched capacitor DAC with excellent anti-jitter performance, circuit design to suppress the jitter generated internally, dedicated power supply pin for clock circuit result in unprecedented sound quality.

The AK4397 further provides a dedicated input port for direct stream digital (DSD) data input, sampling rate from 30kHz to 216kHz, fully differential analog outputs, digital attenuator, de-emphasis filters, soft mute and zero detection functions. The performance is THD+N of -103dB and S/N of 120dB. The operating voltage is 5V.

The AK4397 is available in a 44-pin LQFP package. Function and software compatibility with the industry standard AK4396 24-bit Audio DAC means a simple upgrade path for AK4396-based systems. For a demo of its high quality sound, the AK4397 evaluation boards and samples are available now. To obtain more information, contact Asahi Kasei EMD Corporation, Audio & Video Business Operation, Nishi-Shinjuku 1-23-7, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 160-0023, Japan."
"Does Kana work for you?"

Audiooracle aka the Audio Doctor-

Very funny. You're the only shill in this thread.

I don't sell, don't own and don't plan to own any Aplhifi
gear.

I've never had the pleasure of meeting Alex, never talked
with him on the phone or sent him a PM. I have posted on his forum.

"The Memory Player's DAC is still in development and is not shipping at this time."

Will they have one at RMAF? Will it have all the latest
upgrades?
"With Fios, Satellite TV, and other such services high speed down loads of content is the future."

Audiooracle-

If this is the future, how is the MP's "ace in the hole"
featue, RUR, going to be of any benefit?

Scaena1- according to a NP dealer Audiooracle:

"The Memory Player's DAC is still in development and is not shipping at this time"

Is the MP w/DAC you've demo'd a one of a kind prototype?

Does it use the new AK4397 32 bit DAC?
"Well, if they can't bring a product to market within a year by building a steady customer base, then they haven't mastered the fundamentals of creating a solid business. Or the product just doesn't really fall into the "breakthrough" category as perceived by the market."

Mtkhl567- Excellent point. It's been well over a year since
the ST's first report about the MP, and the only dealer NP has is Audiooracle....

Maybe they were waiting for the 32bit DAC chips before increasing production or maybe they've missed their window of opportunity.

PSAudio has already announced a new transport that will rip/playback from a solid state memory and have a PC storage interface, along with an updated version the Digital Lens.

If RUR is NP's "ace in the hole," maybe they should be in the software business.
"I know full well that many believe a computer hard drive and a dac or sound board can equal it as bits are bits. I know this is not the case, however, given personal experience. I have not heard the MP except in the Behold suite, so I am anxious to hear it in an analog system at the RMAF."

Norm- if you haven't heard the MP in your system against other PC based playback systems, how can you say they don't equal or surpass the the MP?
