You seem like a sincere person but this isn't the place to discuss interpretations of religion. You seem like a decent guy, just trying to live your life...consider this: relieve some of the burdens you believe have been placed upon you because I don't believe its your calling to save the audiophile community from some imagined, threatening horde.
What happened to all the highend stereo shops
What happened to high end stereo shops I mean real high-end stereo shops. I am 78, my father bought me my first stereo when I was 12, I have been hooked ever since. I remember the days when you can go to a nice audio store and not just audition what they had in the store but if you saw a couple of tuners, preamps or some cables that you liked, you could give them a blank check and take the equipment home to audition on your system. Bring one or both back Pay for what you want to keep or get your check back. I don’t understand how someone can buy an expensive piece of audio equipment and not audition it in their system first. Many places today, you buy it and your stuck with it. OH yes you can sell it on Audiogon or eBay. Reviewers are nice and give good reviews but the problem I have is the equipment they are auditioning is on their system in their treated music room which is going to be different than what you have.

@crlambert While I'm not sure what led to your irrational outburst, what is it you fear from the group you disparaged above. It certainly isn't relevant to the discussion nor is it relevant to a society made up of different individuals with different views. With that said, I happen to love jazz...and I'm grateful for Billy Strayhorn or Bill Evans or the countless wonderful artists who have come along over the years and elevated my musical enjoyment. Regardless of who they happen to love. |

To your original post, I believe alot of audio folks miss the almost clubhouse kindof feel so many great audio stores once evoked. The kind where you could hang out and not feel pressure to buy.
I do think people need to recognize that people consume and purchase music and audio gear differently today. I see the random posting, predicting the impending doom of high end audio. 2021 was the best year in the history of high end audio, eclipsed only by 2022. There are more high end companies today making better gear than ever before. Innovation is happening at warp speed which is why it may be hard to observe by those merely watching their own particular brick and mortar dealer. Businesses come and businesses go, nothing remains the same....thank goodness. |
1) Its a private audio forum. 2) The first ammendment only protects you from governmental censorship. A private enterprise, person or entity may tune you out and censor your words at will. 3) Just because someone doesn’t give a hoot what you think about religion on an audio forum doesn’t make them any less spiritual than you think you are. 4) You are coming off as a zealot. No one wants to listen to a zealot. 5) Stop whining. Discuss audio, share your audio thoughts or your thoughts about the topic of this thread. That would be cool. 6) I believe in God, I believe she is all knowing, she enjoys tube gear, she hates solid state gear and she also believes that cables make a significant contribution to sound quality…not that anyone on an audio forum should be subjected to my beliefs…or your beliefs. |
Yawn…ok then, did you get kicked out of another forum on the internet and somehow found Audiogon? Are you just killing time here until you are sentenced for your role on Jan 6? When you were reading the first ammendment, did your lips get tired?

Your self-righteous diatribe assumes you are the only virtuous person on Audiogon. Many here are ladies and gentlemen from whom you could learn alot regarding audio, sprituality and life. Most rational members here leave their religious affiliations at the Audiogon door so as not to offend or push any stupid assumptions. We have a diverse membership of all religions and nationalities. It is equally offensive that you assume you are the only person who gets "it". You are not.
The "truth" is unfortunately, subjective when it comes to religion. The one with which you align seems to have a few inconsistencies (Lot and his daughters???? Its amazing that the male scribes got that one past the male editors of the day but hey....rationalizations know no bounds). The "book" to which you cling is actually a set of short stories compiled and voted upon at the council of Nicaea (4th century AD). And don’t get me started on the inconsitencies with the King James re-interpretation.
There is alot of good to garner from religious study, all religions...and there is alot where when overlaying simple, common logic (the story of Jonah??) things tend to fall apart. Its best to take it all in and throw out the parts where even the most objective might assume that human error litters the tundra of the texts.
The best practice on a hifi site might be to keep your religious beliefs and paranoia to yourself. And before you pronounce from your self manufactured throne that you must be the modern day equivalent of Noah (which by the way was a nice tale but it didn't happen the way it was described), please recognize that many here have studied a great deal, have traveled extensively, they come from families with sometimes multiple clergy in their lineage (some even are clergy themselves).
Please keep the topic here on audio or please, respectfully, go pound sand.

@jjss49 I 100% agree with you! I also apologize to any of the "normal" Audiogon crew but this guy just drop some bombs into our playground and I thought he should receive a "reply". He won't like it but hey....
I too miss the old radio store where there were certainly a few radios, tv's, hifi's for sale but 70% of the stock in the back were replacement tubes and speakers! I also remember walking into almost any store and there was always a standup tube tester up front. |
No. But the answer is none of your self-righteous business. I have assisted with numerous efforts over the decades, helping where and when I am able in relief efforts of varying magnitude for varying causes. The only time I question whether there is a higher being is when I witness the unnecessary mass suffering of others....oh, I also question it as well when rednecks attempt to claim the moral high ground. Now, go pound sand. |
